Special US Rep Urges Release of American Missionary

09-07-2014

The U.S. special representative for North Korea policy is urging the government to let Korean-American missionary Kenneth Bae go.

U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said the missionary his family have publicly apologized for actions that led to the conviction.

"We fully support the efforts of the Bae family to bring Kenneth Bae home. We continue to urge the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) to pardon Bae for his actions and grant him amnesty and immediate release," Psaki said, the Associated Press reported.

Bae is a Christian and a former tour guide operator in North Korea.

He's serving 15 years of hard labor for what North Korea calls crimes against its state.
