Ramadan Prayer

I am in the Middle East as Ramadan begins. It's the annual month of fasting and prayer for one-seventh of the world's people.

A muezzin awakened me from a sound sleep early this morning as he sang the first call to prayer of Ramadan. Later in the day, I noticed the frowning faces of many fasting Muslims who had skipped breakfast and lunch.

High temperatures here in the Middle East don't help attitudes either. A fellow traveler I met from Baghdad said it reached 50 degrees celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit there.

Also heating up at the start of Ramadan is the civil war in Syria. More than 30,000 Syrians have fled their country for Lebanon during the past two days and thousands have also entered neighboring Turkey, Iraq, and Jordan.

Now more than ever--during this Ramadan--Muslims need the prayers of Christians. It's their time of seeking God. Pray they find him...and a personal relationship with the Prince of Peace.
