Five people were killed in Thailand, including a police officer, during clashes between police and demonstrators Tuesday, according to Reuters.

Dozens were injured as police rounded up protestors who camped out at various locations throughout Bangkok, the nation's capital. Officials said at least two of those killed were protesters.

Police fired tear gas and used batons to beat protesters. They used rubber bullets and live ammunition as the opposing sides were less than 700 feet from each other.

Since late last year, protesters have blocked access to businesses and government buildings demanding that Prime Minister Shinawatra resign.

The political unrest is expected to continue as Thais await a court ruling on the legality of the recent federal election.
