Canon Andrew White, an English Anglican pastor who leads a congregation of Christians in the war-torn nation of Iraq, will be honored with the prestigious William Wilberforce Award this weekend.

White's St. George's Anglican Church is located in Baghdad, a city torn apart by sectarian violence.

More than 1,000 members of the church have been killed in the fighting in the past five years.

Nevertheless, White's church serves 6,000 people, distributing food, clothes, and medical care to Muslims and Christians alike.

White, known as the Vicar of Baghdad, also works to broker peace between warring factions of Islam.

The Colson Center for Christian Worldview is giving White the award for his "extraordinary strides in reconciliation and restoration in the face of overwhelming challenges."
