ISIS, Al Qaida Hit Targets in Baghdad and Yemen

05-15-2016

The Islamic State group has launched a coordinated assault on a natural gas plant north of Baghdad killing at least 12 people.

The attacked started at dawn with a suicide bombing at the plant’s main gate in the town of Taji, allowing several terrorists to gain access.

They fought with security forces wounding 25 troops, an Iraqi official said.

Deputy Oil Minister Hamid Younis said firefighters managed to control and extinguish a fire caused by the explosions and are examining the damage.

The IS-affiliated Aamaq news agency credited a group of "caliphate soldiers" for the attack.

Meanwhile in Yemen, a suicide bomber detonated his explosives among policemen standing in line outside a police base.

Security and health officials say at least 25 people were killed and 17 injured in the attack.

Sunday's victims were policemen returning to work for the first time since last month's recapture of Mukalla by forces of the internationally recognized government, reports the Associated Press. This port city has been held for more than a year by Yemen's al Qaeda affiliate.

The group claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement posted on social media networks by sympathizers of the group.
