Severe winter weather warnings are coming to parts of the U.S. in the run-up to the Christmas season.
Parts in the Midwest and Northeast could experience their lowest temperatures of this century, according to Accuweather.
The cold weather is coming from the so-called polar vortex that is drifting down from the Artic this week.
Meteorologists are calling the new weather conditions "dangerously" cold for millions of Americans, where wind chills could dip to 30 to 40 degrees below zero in some areas.
There are also warnings of frostbite and hypothermia. Frostbite can develop within 10 minutes if the skin is exposed to extreme cold, and more than 1,000 people die from hypothermia each year.
Warnings for drivers are also in full effect. Over 900 accidents have been reported so far, as well as multiple deaths, due to harsh snowstorms.
