9/11 Mastermind Says He Wants Death

And that' s not his only demand (see here). Here's more, from CBN News.

Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind behind the September 11, 2001 attacks, says he wants to die so he can become "a martyr."

Mohammed, who was once al-Qaeda's third-in-command, told a military judge Thursday that he wants the death penalty.

Yes, this is what I wish, to be a martyr for a long time. I will, God willing, have this, by you," he told the judge after he was warned that he faced the death penalty.

Mohammed and four co-defendants were arraigned before a war-crimes tribunal at the U.S. Naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. All five of the men are charged with murder, conspiracy, attacking civilians and terrorism for their role in plotting 9/11.

The military plans to show the trial on closed-circuit television to 9/11 victims' families. Those families will be allowed to watch the proceedings from special locations on U.S. military bases.

The military's tribunal system for the detainees of the Global War on Terror is still in dispute.

The Supreme Court is expected to hand down a ruling this month on the rights of Guantanamo prisoners. The high court's actions could delay or halt the trial for the five men altogether
