Indiana Trooper Fired for Sharing Faith During Traffic Stops

State Trooper

A senior Indiana state trooper has been fired for evangelizing to citizens on the job.

Trooper Brian Hamilton was sued for asking the driver, Wendy Pyle of Connersville, what church she attended and if she was saved, during a routine traffic stop.

Hamilton was also sued following a similar traffic stop in 2014 when he asked a driver about her religious beliefs and invited her to church.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana helped Pyle file a federal lawsuit Tuesday in the U.S. District Court in Indianapolis claiming Hamilton violated her civil rights during a January traffic stop.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter fired Hamilton for insubordination.
