Three years after the defeat of the Islamic State caliphate, ISIS is still terrorizing the world. At its height, the Islamic State, or ISIS, held about a third of Syria and forty percent of Iraq. In 2015, ISIS expanded outside the caliphate into a network of affiliates in at least 8 other countries. With affiliates carrying out attacks in Nigeria, Afghanistan and now Uganda, people are bracing for future attacks while the U.S. considers its role in fighting Islamic extremism. CBN News Senior International Correspondent Gary Lane is on today’s episode to talk about the growing terror threat in East Africa along with the hotspots to watch in 2022.

Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) surprised the political world when he announced over the weekend that he cannot support President Biden's Build Back Better agenda as it currently exists in the Senate, throwing the fate of the controversial bill into limbo. Some in the White House and on Capitol Hill are holding out hope the bill can be revived, but what would it have to look like in order to get the approval of Manchin and another moderate Democrat, Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona? What does this mean for Democrats and their paper-thin majority in Washington?

Also, some high-ranking Republican senators are pushing for the Senate to take up the Taylor Force Martyr Prevention Payment Act, which would close a loophole that is allowing the families of people who commit acts of terrorism to receive payment for their martyrdom. Capitol Hill reporter Abigail Robertson joins The Rundown to talk about both stories.

With Christmas just a week away, the families of 17 Christian missionaries who had been held hostage by a gang in Haiti will able to celebrate the holidays with their loved ones. This week, the remaining 12 missionaries were released, joining the five other missionaries who were set free back in November and earlier this month.

Unfortunately, the news this week wasn't all good, as a devastating string of tornadoes ripped through Kentucky and other midwest states, leaving dozens dead and others still unaccounted for. Christian organizations like CBN's Operation Blessing are on hand to help residents deal with their loss and the destruction left behind, and to pray for the victims and those left homeless ahead of the holidays. CBN News reporter Brody Carter covered both these stories this week, and he joins us on The Rundown with the latest on both.

In these days of deep, political divide, it’s hard to find common ground – even within the Christian community. We’re polarized over economics, sexuality, education, immigration, and the pandemic, hardly remembering we’re at war with something much greater than each other. It’s the spiritual war against evil that threatens to steal our life, our happiness, and our hope. One ministry in Washington, DC is dedicated to restoring hope to the hill. Their mission is simple: to provide prayer and pastoral support to all those whom God put in office. CBN News Capitol Hill Correspondent Abigail Robertson talked to Hope To The Hill Ministries and the members they’re reaching. She’s on today’s podcast with a story that will prayerfully inspire hope in each of us, and inspire us to prayerfully lift up our leaders in Congress.

This week on The Rundown, CBN News reporter and anchor Mark Martin brings a story of tragedy among Native Americans, an epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous people. Under this wave of MMIP, Native American women are being murdered or have gone missing at a far higher rate than women of any other race or ethnicity, with little attention given by the media to their plight. Mark recently traveled to Montana to learn more about some of the personal stories of women who have gone missing, and spoke to local authorities, including Gov. Greg Gianforte, on what is being done to try and end this epidemic of missing and murdered Native American women.

But first, the United States is losing a war of artificial intelligence with China. National security officials note the Chinese have a large head start in the world of military AI, and the recent departure of a top US government official in frustration over the growing gap is ringing alarm bells. What's at stake if China does pull away from the United States in this area, what are the ethical concerns of the proliferation of artificial intelligence, and what does it mean for our privacy? CBN News Senior Reporter Dale Hurd joins the Rundown with more on his story.

Nearly one year after the January 6th riots at the United States Capitol, the investigation is ramping up. The Select Committee investigating the attack has subpoenaed nearly 50 people and organizations associated with the riots and former President Donald Trump, including former Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Clark. With public hearings set to begin next year, Republicans and Democrats remain mostly divided on prosecuting those involved in the riots, with opinions closely tied to voters’ views on who won the 2020 election. Former Vice President Mike Pence holds that he did his duty under the Constitution that day, although he and the former president may never see eye to eye. CBN News Chief Political Analyst David Brody sat down with Mike Pence recently to discuss his response to angry MAGA fans, bombshell abortion case Dobbs vs. Jackson Women’s Health, and what’s next for the former Vice President.

This week, health officials confirmed the first cases of Omicron, the latest COVID-19 variant of concern, inside the U.S. This as the Biden administration enacted travel bans to South Africa and several other Southern African countries. How worried should we be that Omicron could become the next Delta, and what do we really know about this new variant? CBN News Medical Reporter Lorie Johnson joins the Rundown to talk Omicron, the continued spread of Delta, and President Biden's plans to fight COVID this winter.

Also, Native Americans are being particularly hard-hit by the virus. CBN News reporter and anchor Mark Martin recently traveled to Montana and visited a number of tribes to get a first-hand look at the devastating impact COVID has had on those communities and what state officials are doing to try and help.
