Kids may finally be eating a little better, according to a new study that shows the number of kids eating fast food dropped between 2003-2010.
The JAMA Pediatrics study used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), and examined calorie consumption.
Because adults have been eating less fast food, researchers speculated that kids might be, too.
"The percentage of energy from fast foods consumed by U.S. adults declined from 12.8 percent in 2007 to 2008 to 11.3 percent in 2009-2010," study authors Colin D. Rehm and Adam Drewnowski reported.
"Other than analyses of menu offerings, there are no comparable data on fast food consumption by children," they report. "While sources of energy by food groups and sources have previously been evaluated, to our knowledge, no study has evaluated trends in energy by fast food restaurant (FFR) type."
The study did not address nutrition, but researchers say it's a promising trend that shows people can change their eating habits.
