New research suggests carrying extra weight could be increasing your chances of getting Alzheimer's sooner.

Being obese in middle age has long been suspected of increasing the risk of Alzheimer's. But now researchers at the National Institutes of Health say being overweight or obese at 50 years old may mean that you'll get the disease even sooner.

They found that among those who got the disease, more excess weight in midlife correlated to an earlier onset.

The experts add maintaining a healthy weight in your midlife years is likely to have long-lasting positive effects.
