JERUSALEM, Israel – A business seminar on water management, led by the Israeli Trade Mission in Bucharest, birthed an historic deal between Israeli and Romanian utility companies.

The seminar, more than six months in the making, took place in the city of Constanza on the Black Sea.

Matan Safran, Israel's commercial attaché in Romania, said Israeli companies can provide the technologies needed to provide safe drinking water and state-of-the-art sewage treatment for Romania's 8 million residents, while simultaneously creating business opportunities that benefit both countries.

"About half of Romania's population is not connected to central drinking water and sewage treatment networks," Safran explained. "Israel's technologies in water management are a gateway to a market with unlimited potential."

The seminar also covered methods for reducing water loss and using satellite technology to pinpoint and manage underground leaks, as well as energy conservation and methods to increase utility companies' efficiency.
