The Washington Post is fact checking President Obama's State of the Union speech. Last night, President Obama said, “more than eight million new jobs our businesses have created over the past four years.”

Here's The Washington Post's take:

I think the best thing that happened to Republicans Tuesday night was the GOP rebuttal by Congresswoman Cathy McMorris-Rodgers. She was poised, smart, looked comfortable, she was smiling and she articulated GOP principles in a very even handed, folksy way. It really was pitch perfect.

When reviewing President Obama’s State of the Union speech last night. I’m reminded of the old Frank Sinatra song where he crooned, “I’ll do it my way.” President Obama essentially told congress to go take a hike and then he got specific, listing off a lot more executive orders than I thought he would. He’s very serious about this. But look, this is a president who has nothing to lose. He’s not up for re-election and he wants to cement his legacy. We saw this with Bill Clinton when he started reeling off plenty of executive orders late in his second term too.

Pres. Obama starts off his annual address striking an optimistic tone saying, "I believe this can be a breakthrough year for America. After five years of grit and determined effort, the United States is better-positioned for the 21st century than any other nation on Earth."

President lays down the gauntlet saying he will bypass Congress to advance his policies.

Lives demonstrating these traits are certainly going to be less prone to fighting and the emotional and physical toll it takes.

U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, was recently interviewed about Syria. While many of his assertions can be debated, one especially requires a response.

Throughout the interview, he repeatedly insisted that, if Bashar Assad would only leave power, everything would go well — especially for all of Syria’s minorities.

I always enjoy sitting down and talking with former Assistant Secretary of State Elliott Abrams. He worked for President Ronald Reagan at the State Department, and more recently as Deputy National Security Advisor for President George W. Bush.
