Quiet fell on Jerusalem like the dew this Shabbat. But the stillness masks the rumble of war shuddering throughout the Middle East. Five U.S. destroyers with hundreds of Tomahawk cruise missiles ply the waters of the Eastern Mediterranean ready to launch those missiles at Syrian military installations. Those launches could be hours or days away.
Among those familiar with the true teachings of Islam, it is well known that the life — or as articulated in Arabic, the “blood” — of an infidel, that is, a non-Muslim, is not equal to the life/blood of a Muslim. Few know, however, that among some of Islam’s respected hadith collections, the blood of a non-Muslim is no better than the blood of a dog.

After constant exposure to critically important news, it begins to lose all meaning and sense of urgency. Hearing the same warnings over and over again—especially when the status quo seems static—can cause a certain desensitization, a resigned apathy that ignores the warnings in the wishful hope that they won’t materialize. This hope becomes more optimistic (and passive) with each passing day that the warnings do not materialize.
The leaders of a Texas megachurch did not discourage members from getting vaccinated. In a red-banner statement posted today on their website, the pastors of Eagle Mountain International Church can't make it any clearer: "We Are Not Anti-Vaccination."
Church leaders have been battling a flurry of criticism since it was reported a number of unvaccinated church members contracted the measles earlier this month. Some media reports claim the pastors discouraged members from being vaccinated.
