The U.S. government believes hackers from Russia may try and undermine next week's U.S. presidential election.
NBC News reports the White House and the Department of Homeland Security are taking steps to prepare for a possible attack.
"The Russians are in an offensive mode and the U.S. is working on strategies to respond to that at the highest levels," said Michael McFaul, a former U.S. ambassador to Russia.
Officials say they have no specific warning of an attack on Election Day, but they believe a massive attack from Oct. 21 could have been practice for this coming Tuesday.
