Most Disapprove of Obama's Handling of ISIS Threat

11-05-2015

Many Americans disapprove of President Barack Obama's approach to fighting the Islamic State, according to a new Associated Press GFK poll.

The survey showed 60 percent of people reject Obama's handling of the threat from the jihadist army.

Polls also show strong disapproval of the president's handling of foreign affairs, along with his handling of the war in Afghanistan.

The Associated Press reports that the poll was conducted before Obama's recent announcement that the United States will send a small number of Special Operations troops into Syria to fight the terrorist group.

The survy also suggests there's deep pessimism about U.S. prospects for success in Afghanistan. Few Americans believe that Afghanistan can maintain a stable, democratic government once the U.S has withdrawn its troops. Seventy-five percent of people believe it is not likely.

Only 40 percent approve Obama's management of foreign policy.

This time last year, Americans were roughly split on the issue.
