Kansas High Court Weighs Second Trimester Abortion Ban

01-22-2016

The Kansas Court of Appeals is expected to decide whether to allow a ban on second-trimester abortion, the first of its kind in the nation.

The ruling stems from a lawsuit filed by two abortion providers who said the law puts an unconstitutinal burden on women.

It prohibits doctors from using forceps or other instruments to remove a live fetus from the womb in pieces.

Meanwhile, the Wisconsin State Senate has voted to strip $7.5 million in state funding for Planned Parenthood.

The Senate approved two bills limiting the abortion provider. The first would place limits on how much Planned Parenthood can be reimbursed for prescription drugs obtained through a Medicaid program, according to the Cap Times.

The second would keep Planned Parenthood from receiving federal Title X funds, redirecting the money to other groups.

Gov. Scott Walker is expected to sign the legislation.
