U.S. and Ukrainian negotiators are in Switzerland this week, working out the details of a peace plan brokered by the Trump administration.
Ukraine's new ambassador to Washington, Olga Stefanishyna, is serving at a defining moment for her country, and for U.S. policy. Just months into the job, she's tasked with securing deeper American support, as the war with Russia enters a critical phase.
She tells CBN News her top priority is to support President Trump's efforts towards peace and do everything possible to help bring an end to the war in her country.
While new to this position, Ambassador Stefanishyna is familiar with the work, previously leading Ukraine's efforts to deepen ties with NATO and the European Union, and also involved in negotiating the U.S.-Ukraine mineral deal.
"I'm really stopping to thank God that basically I was given the chance to live through one lifetime. You know, millions of lives, you know, and some people did not experience that through the whole lifetime," she told us. "But now being the ambassador of Ukraine to U.S., I understand that I needed all these experiences to be able to perform this mission, particularly, in the best possible way."

"I am a person who is on a specific mission to serve the country at war. And, I'm arriving to the country where your president has made a personal commitment to end the war in my country. And whatever I can do here to be of service to this purpose. This is something that I have to do. And this is the priority task. Making sure that whatever I'm doing in this position is reducing the capability of the aggressor to destroy our cities and kill our people."
The Trump administration recently released a 28-point plan to end the war, providing Ukraine an undefined security guarantee while allowing Russia to keep some of the territory it has taken.
Ambassador Stefanishyna says Ukraine supports the president's efforts toward peace.
"I think this is a very solid ground. And, we are not only acting in a, in a good faith, but we are also understanding very clearly that the resilience of Ukraine has been vital to a broader global or world order. But now the commitment of the President of the United States is something that could really bring so much purpose in all of that. So whatever could be done to back up his efforts should be done. But also, we understand that justice, fairness is the bottom line for any decision."
