Psalms 113-118 are known in Judaism as the "Hallel" or Psalms of Praise. They are recited specifically for major redemptive acts in Jewish history such as the exodus from Egyptian slavery, celebrated at Passover; Shavuot (when Jews celebrate the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai and Christians the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, Pentecost); or Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles), said David Nekrutman, executive director of the Center of Jewish-Christian Understanding and Cooperation (CJCUC) in Efrat.
Now, CJCUC is inviting Christians around the world to join in the Day to Praise Initiative on Yom Ha'atzmaut, Israel's Independence Day, April 23, by reciting Psalms 113-118 and thanking God for the establishment of the Jewish state.
