Hong Kong's leader has agreed to meet with pro-democracy advocates after a week of public protests.

Tens of thousand of demonstrators have been blocking the streets of Hong Kong for the past seven days.

They want more input and less meddling from China in selecting the territory's leader.

China is poised to intervene should the protests get out of control. Hong Kong's Christian community, however, strongly supports the demonstrations.

They're fearful the same persecution Chinese believers are suffering at the hands of communist Beijing could easily happen to them. CBN News's George Thomas talked more about the situation below:

Earlier this week, Hong Kong police dispersed crowds with tear gas.

Meanwhile, U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice is watching the developments in Hong Kong and spoke with China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

She expressed the hope that differences between authorities and protesters in China will be addressed peacefully.

"The United States has consistently supported the open system that is essential to Hong Kong's stability and prosperity," the White House said in statement about the meeting.
