WASHINGTON – Lawmakers are urging President Donald Trump to come clean about whether he has tapes of private conversations with fired FBI Director James Comey.
"The president made clear in the Rose Garden last week he will have an announcement shortly," said White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
Spicer dodged questions about the allegations at Monday's White House Briefing.
It's the latest fallout from Comey's testimony last week which was followed by the president saying that in a "fairly short period of time" we'll find out if there are in fact tapes.
"I think the president made it clear what his intention is on Friday," said Spicer when asked if the American people deserve to know whether Comey was lying to the Senate.
Trump added that people would be disappointed with the answer. If Trump does have recordings, then many lawmakers say they want them provided to Congress or possibly face a subpoena.
