Seventeen-year-old Aslan fled the war in Damascus and said he could not bear to leave his dog behind.
He has walked more than 300 miles carrying his dog after leaving his war-torn country in Syria and carries his belongings in a rucksack, while holding his puppy in a red carrier.
The U.N.'s refugee agency interviewed Aslan after he arrived on the Greek island of Lesbos.
Holding the tiny Husky in his arms he said, "I love this dog, I need her."
"The dog is Rose," Aslan said referring to its name and giving it a drink of water from a cup.
Aslan said some people question what he's doing.
"Some people will ask - you have only a small bag? And you bring your dog? Why?"
He always responds with "I love my dog!"
Relief workers say Aslan is not alone. He is one of many refugees who did what they had to do to bring their pets with them as they fled their war-torn homes.
