The Afghan prison in Kandahar is, or was, the largest in Afghanistan's penal system, holding more than 1,500 inmates from the bloody fighting in the southern part of the country. Many of those held were Taliban fighters and commanders.

Look, here is the understatement of the year: Congressman Paul Ryan has a tough sell when it comes to explaining, and then more importantly convincing, Americans that changes to Medicare and Medicaid are needed.
If Mitch Daniels runs for President, he may be a GREAT General Election candidate. The problem is, if he runs, he might get knocked out in the GOP primaries.
You have to appeal to Evangelicals to do well in GOP primary circles and Daniels idea of a “truce” on social issues won’t play well with Evangelicals.
Just because fiscal issues dominate the agenda doesn’t mean this has to be an “either/or” proposition. How Daniels removes his foot from his mouth will go a long way to determining whether Daniels can possibly even get to a potential matchup with President Obama.
If Mike Huckabee decides to run for oresident and ends up becoming the GOP nominee, he can point to his feud with Glenn Beck as an example that he is not extreme right wing or anything close to it.
If a GOP nominee wants to win the presidency, they will have to attract key Independent voters in the General Election. Showcasing the fact that you went toe-to-toe with Glenn Beck is not a bad way to illustrate your independence.
So now Franklin Graham is saying kinds words about a potential Donald Trump presidential candidacy. It doesn’t surprise me in the least. (Watch the video below.)
I have said it in this space once and I’ll say it again. Donald Trump strikes a chord with many Evangelicals because he speaks bluntly and he’s not afraid to speak his mind. Evangelicals like his boldness characteristic.
They like his black and white views of issues. It resonates. Plain and simple. Will Donald Trump appeal to ALL evangelicals? Of course not.
The bedrock of the Christian faith is that Jesus rose from the dead.

Reports have surfaced that evangelist Luis Palau's efforts to celebrate Easter with Christians in Hanoi were recently thwarted by the Vietnamese government.
After thousands had gathered for Palau's historic public event in Ho Chi Minh City, the popular pastor headed north to the nation's capital. But Palau's team quickly discovered that holding a public evangelistic event in the communist stronghold is not as easy as it is in the country's more Christian South.
We recently interviewed Gabriella Shalev, Israel's former ambassador to the United Nations, who told us she's alarmed about this coming September.
That's the month she expects the Palestinian Authority will attempt to get official recognition from the U.N.'s General Assembly. She's concerned the U.N. might also enact a seldom used resolution - Number 377 - and use it to not only recognize a Palestinian state but authorize "collective measures" against Israel.
Those "collective measures" could include boycotts, sanctions, an arms embargo, and even the use of force.
