'The Jimmy Carter Scale'

07-19-2012

If President Obama becomes Jimmy Carter, Mitt Romney will win the presidency. The Brody File will be tracking how much Mitt Romney can turn Obama into Carter.

Reagan won the presidency in 1980 because he made the case that Jimmy Carter’s economic policies had failed and then asked the famous question, “Are you better off than you were four years ago?”

Romney is essentially trying to do the same thing to Obama. The Brody File has decided to give this effort a name. We’re calling it, “The Jimmy Carter Scale.”

Remember, Romney doesn’t need to convince the base that Obama is Carter. Rather, he needs to convince undecided voters. So with that said, a “1” on the scale means Obama is totally not seen as Carter. A “10” means Romney has done a great job making Obama the new Jimmy Carter.

How’s he doing? The Brody File would like your opinion. Remember, this is not how YOU feel. It’s what you believe undecided voters are thinking right now in July 2012.

The Brody File’s number? I think Obama is a “5” on, “The Jimmy Carter Scale,” which means the Romney campaign still has quite a bit of work to do. They need to get that number up to an “8” or “9.”

The latest polling is as follows:

"Nearly two out of three registered voters believes that President Obama's policies contributed to some degree to the economic downturn, according to a new CBS News/New York Times poll. Thirty-four percent say Mr. Obama's policies contributed significantly to the downturn, and another 30 percent say they contributed to some degree. Thirty-five percent say the president's policies contributed little or not at all to the downturn."

By the way, here is the video of Reagan in 1980 talking about Carter and whether or not voters are better off.
