These women raise white children. We love them, and they love us. But they can’t even use the toilets in our houses. Go behind the scenes of the hit movie The Help. Plus . . . . Just the heartache from that, man, I was tore up. NFL quarterback Colt McCoy on losing the big game and finding the strength to come back. Just give me an opportunity to go play. That’s all I want. Well, welcome to this edition of The 700 Club. We’ve got some shocking revelations about 9/11. Who was behind it? And it isn’t just some right wing plot that’s telling it. It’s the left wing blogger that’s telling us that somebody else may have been pulling some of the strings. And we also have learned, and I think this will be interesting. You ladies, if you’re pregnant you can change the taste habits of your child. You can make them like broccoli and carrots and good stuff, or you can teach them to eat junk food, depending on what you eat while you’re pregnant. How about that? I believe it. I do. Did you teach your little baby to eat good stuff? Well, yes, he does. But it was funny. When I was pregnant, I craved hamburgers and ice cream and things like that. So you ruined him. Well, kind of, sort of. I craved it. That’s what he wanted and what he still likes to this day. Well, that story is coming. All right. Well, you were talking about 9/11. I’ve got to tell you, Erick Stakelbeck actually has this report on a lawsuit that ties the Iranian government to 9/11. Osama bin Laden, killed. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, captured. Ayman al Zawahiri, on the run. All three relentlessly pursued by the U.S. for their part in the 9/11 attacks. But a new federal lawsuit claims al Qaeda did not act alone and that the tentacles behind the deadliest day of terror in American history stretch all the way to Tehran. This is the suit filed on behalf of family members of 9/11 victims. It accuses the Iranian government of having advance knowledge of the attacks and helping facilitate travel of the 9/11 hijackers. Three Iranian defectors from inside Iran's spy agency are the key witnesses. The suit identifies the man at the center of this Iran-al Qaeda nexus as Imad Mugniyeh, a terrorist mastermind with a long history of directing attacks against US interests. Mugniyeh worked with both Iran and Hezbollah before being killed by a car bomb in 2008. You have travel from Beirut with Imad Mugniyah, travel into Iran with Imad Mugniyah, who apparently, now, the defectors have told us, was actually in the meetings planning 9/11. Janice Kephart worked on the bipartisan 9/11 Commission, whose report examined Iran and Hezbollah's relationship with the 9/11 hijackers. It described the willingness of Iranian officials to facilitate the travel of al Qaeda members through Iran, to and from Afghanistan. It said Iranian border inspectors would be told not to place telltale stamps in the passports of these al Qaeda travelers and that no less than eight of the so-called “muscle hijackers” on 9/11 traveled into or out of Iran between October 2000 and February 2001, just months before the 9/11 attacks. That was a policy by the Iranian government to let al Qaeda through. The border officials were told to let al Qaeda through. One former CIA operative who worked on this 9/11 lawsuit told CBN News that Iran's ongoing war against America goes back to 1979 when it seized the US Embassy in Tehran. Iran repeatedly since then has mounted attacks against us. Civilians and military have died, and to this day continues to provide that material and direct support to militias in Iraq and to the Taliban, which are killing American troops in those areas of operation every single day. The 9/11 Commission's report recommended that the U.S. government should further investigate Iran's possible involvement in the planning of 9/11. That has not happened. The Obama Administration, first of all, has decided to take a more lenient, more kid glove approach with Iran. So it appears that it's up to the 9/11 families to hold Iran accountable. Well, Erick is with us now from Washington. Erick, I’m shocked. Well, I shouldn’t be shocked at something the United States government does or didn’t do. Why didn’t they follow it up? George Bush was intent on destroying Saddam Hussein, and it seems like Saddam Hussein really wasn’t that involved in 9/11. No, he wasn’t involved in 9/11 at all, Pat. But it appears from this federal lawsuit, which, again, very credible, Pat, not only information, but the people involved in this lawsuit. Members of the bipartisan 9/11 commission, defectors from Iran who worked inside that regime are coming forward with this evidence that, yes, Iran helped facilitate the travel of the 9/11 hijackers just months before those attacks. Now, Pat, the big question: why isn’t Washington doing anything about this? The 9/11 Commission report came out way back in 2004, first laying out how Iran and its proxy, Hezbollah, assisted the 9/11 hijackers. The Commission report said, “Hey, we need to follow up on this, do some further digging.” That has never happened. Why? Because, honestly, Pat, if the American people had an inkling or if they knew that Iran had a hand in 9/11, they would demand action. And I’ll tell you, that’s something Republicans and Democrats over the past 32 years, Pat, have not been willing to do with Iran. Iran is at war with us, and they’re getting away with it every day. Why do you think that’s true? Well, look, I think it’s a lot of fear, quite frankly, Pat, at Iran’s capabilities, at least right now. Iran is the terror masters. They are the epicenter of global jihad. Their proxies have a presence not only in the Middle East, in Europe, right here in North America, through Hezbollah. We have Hezbollah operatives trying to cross the border from Mexico into the U.S. on a regular basis. Iran has a global reach via its terrorist proxies, and US officials, I can tell you, Pat, are concerned, “Look, if we hit Iran, what will be the repercussions?” That’s the big concern they have. And they seem to think, even Republican administrations seem to think that we can negotiate with the Iranians. “These must be reasonable people. They can’t really believe that the Islamic messiah, the Mahdi, is about to return to earth.” Well, I’ll tell you, Pat, and you know this very well, they really believe it, and they will shape policy around these apocalyptic beliefs. Was George Bush—it wasn’t just Obama. But Obama, recently, when there was that human rights outcry about the elections in Iran, and people went to the streets, he was silent. He didn’t say anything. The United States could have moved in with serious sanctions against Iran, and we haven’t done it. Pat, talk about a missed opportunity. June 18, 2009, one million Iranians took to the streets of Tehran to protest this tyrannical regime, which, again, has been at war with America for 32 years. President Obama sits on his hands, does nothing, says, Pat, and I quote, “We don’t want to meddle.” Look, we didn’t have to send troops on the ground into Iran, but we could have provided logistical support, and the very least, moral support, but nothing. And Pat, I’ll tell you, you think of the Cold War. You think of how Reagan supported Lech Wa??sa, supported the solidarity movement in Poland. They now have a statue to Ronald Reagan in Poland. I don’t think you’ll be seeing many statues to Barack Obama in Tehran any time soon. They won’t be seeing one in Virginia Beach, either. Thanks, Erick. Thank you, Pat. Lee Webb has the rest of our top stories from the CBN Newsroom. Lee. Pat, Republicans won a major victory in Wisconsin’s recall elections and may take control of the state Senate there. Democrats won two seats, but they needed three to gain the majority. The elections were called after the bitter fight over Governor Scott Walker’s efforts to limit public union workers’ collective bargaining rights. The races targeted six incumbent Republicans, and it turned into a high stakes political fight with national implications. Just making sure the Republican stuff, Scott Walker, keeping him in place. We need to switch control of the state Senate, so that we can keep this bad, bad legislation from going any further. But political analysts say the results could bode well for Republicans now in other states. Wisconsin Democrats will still try to recall Governor Scott Walker, Pat. And there was a lot of money pumped into these races. I think I heard more than 31 million dollars, a lot of it, from national labor unions. That’s exactly right. It was a tsunami of money that came pouring in. The labor union movement realized that they were on the line. Scott Walker is a very courageous man. We’re not talking about collective bargaining for trade unions. We’re talking about government employees who were holding the state of Wisconsin captive and were running up the costs of running that state. And Scott Walker says, “No, we’ve got to balance our budget.” Would that that would be the case in other states, but he was courageous, and I think other governors will follow suit. Lee. Pat, the Federal Reserve says it will keep interest rates at historically low levels for the next two years. Heather Sells has that story. The Fed’s move is designed to keep interest rates low on consumer items like adjustable rate mortgages, car loans, and credit cards. But the announcement underscores the dire straits of today’s economy. The Fed says the country’s economic recovery is considerably slower than expected. As proof it cited a lack of robust hiring, slowing consumer spending, and a faltering housing market. Clearly, Main Street is still struggling through deep waters. Everybody's scared. The market is up and down. Nobody knows what's going to happen. The only thing that's doing well this year was the market; and if this goes, the rest of the economy will probably falter as well. Still, some analysts say Wall Street doesn't sense a second recession is on the way, even though Americans may feel like it's happening. When you have subpar economic growth, it can feel like a recession. The combination of positive signs from both Wall Street and the Fed may have stopped the bleeding for now, but market observers say we still have a very tough road ahead. Heather Sells, CBN News. Yes, Pat, I’m curious to know what you think. This news from the Fed had a positive impact on stocks at the close of Tuesday’s trading. What do you think about the long term? Well, I don’t think it’s going to will make much difference. The Wall Street Journal had an editorial today, doubling down on zero. When you’ve got zero rates, how can you double down? Zero times 50 is still zero. Whatever it is, it’s zero. And the fact that the Fed announced it would go a couple of years down the road is in itself extraordinary. They don’t normally do that. But what they’re saying is that we’re looking for a period of stagflation. And it’s like they use the term “pushing on a string.” You’re just not going to get anything if the banks won’t lend and people don’t want to borrow. And in order to want to do that, businesses have to have some assurance that the government won’t slap them down. And when you’ve got a president that’s sitting in his bully pulpit preaching day after day after day against small businesses, and you say, “Well, what do you mean small businesses?” Well, somebody that earns 250,000 dollars is a small businessman. And what he’s doing is attacking the people who create jobs. Then he says, “Well, we want more jobs.” Well, you’ll get jobs if you will incentivize the private sector. But he’s unwilling to do that, because his mentality is of the so-called progressive thought pattern. And he doesn’t agree with that. He wants government control. Well, the government is in serious trouble. We’re going to be having a period of stagflation it looks like for the next couple of years. But the whole global economy is on the brink of some catastrophe. It’s just a question of when it’s going to happen. But unless we straighten things out here, it’s going to get worse and worse and worse for America. We’ll have another downgrade from Standard and Poor’s. We’ll have other things happening that we don’t like. But there’s something else I don’t like, and that was the selection of people to go into this committee, and Lee will tell us about it. That’s right, Pat. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has decided on the three Democratic members who will tackle the massive public debt, or at least try to. Reid will name Senators Patty Murray, John Kerry, and Max Baucus to the so-called super committee. The group’s task: cut more than a trillion dollars from the deficit. Those cuts have to be made by November 23rd. Reid passed over Senate Democrats who have called for cuts in social security and Medicare. Murray, by the way, is the chair of the Senate Democratic campaign committee, and Kerry has blamed the Tea Party for the recent downgrade of the U.S. credit rating. One former Republican Senate aid says he finds it interesting that Reid did not pick anyone who might be considered bipartisan, Pat. What it says is that the chance of some kind of a harmonious resolution is out the window, but he doesn’t want harmonious. When you put the head of the campaign committee on your fact finding commission that’s supposed to be bipartisan, you’re sending a message that you’re going to be partisan. As long as we keep on fighting among ourselves and keep on trying to gain partisan advantage, this country is going to continue to wallow around in debt, and it’s going to be tough on all of us, especially the younger generation. Lee. Pat, the food a woman eats during her pregnancy could determine her child's food preferences later in life. In the womb, a baby is nourished by amniotic fluid. That fluid is filled with flavors of what the mother has eaten. New research shows that that creates food memories for the baby, shaping their palate before they're even born. Researchers say that helps explain why kids from countries with more diverse foods are often more adventurous eaters. Now, Pat, call me skeptical. My mother was an adventurous eater, ate a lot of things, a lot of different things. But I was the pickiest of eaters as a child. Well, you just didn’t have enough amniotic fluid. I’m sorry, Lee. That’s too bad. But the average baby . . . . I do believe that study. I just don’t know the long-term effects of the study. I remember my sister, when she was pregnant, she loved jalapeños, anything hot and spicy. And I’ll never forget as long as I live, her daughter at the time I think was one and a half years old. Yes. She wanted hot . . . . And there were some hot peppers. And she went across the table and grabbed it. I was like, “Get that out of the baby’s mouth.” And she loved them. But I think because my sister was pregnant, loved the hot. That’s it. The baby loved the hot. Well, folks, Dr. Roizen, and I cite him as my example, because he’s a very respected doctor from the Cleveland Clinic, and he said boldly, he said, “You can inoculate your child against cancer if you eat broccoli at least three times a week while you’re pregnant.” Broccoli. So these healthy vegetables, eat your veggies, ladies, even if you can’t stand them, and then you can go to the junk food store after your baby is born. If you want to go pig out on junk food, do it after your baby is born. But feed your baby wholesome fruit, vegetables, and they’ll love them. And put spices in if you want to. And do the whole nine yards. Can I just say this, Pat? I love how you’re a man who has never had a baby, but you can say all the stuff that a woman should have. And let me tell you why, because when I was pregnant, I couldn’t stand vegetables. They tasted like metal. So if you were pregnant, and you couldn’t stand the taste of vegetables, because it tasted—would you still eat it? I would put the interest of my baby ahead of my temporary taste buds. All right. All right. Well, up next, we have an amazing story, escaping from North Korea. See how men and women are actually risking their own lives to help others reach freedom. An amazing story. Plus, our chat room is open. Yes, it is. So if you’ve got a question for Pat, all you’ve got to do is just log to CBN.com, and what’s going to happen? We’re going to Bring It Online later, so don’t go away. Coming up later . . . . I’d just the play the game, and I’d get hit the right way, and I’m done. Cut down in his glory days. Get a head start on your Sunday dinner. You ready to cook? Let’s rock it, brother. It’s time. Tomorrow on The 700 Club. South Korea. There was a book called The Aquariums of Pyongyang that showed some of the most awful treatment that people had endured. It is beyond human imagination what is done to those North Korean people. Well, a South Korean journalist recently predicted that North Korea’s communist regime is headed for a collapse, and meanwhile untold suffering in that country continues. Here’s Efrem Graham with the story of two groups of people dedicated to helping the North Koreans. Soldiers marching methodically, a growing arsenal of nuclear weapons, and a ruthless dictator. These are the intimidating images North Korea projects to the world. It’s a different picture, however, that 24-year-old Danny Lee remembers from his childhood there. Yes, everything is so hard. Lee’s grandmother raised him alone after police arrested his Christian mother. Like thousands of others, she was taken to a concentration camp. She fled the country after her release. At 17, Danny escaped to China to begin his search for her. Escaping from North Korea isn’t easy, even after crossing the Tumen River into China. It’ll take us a couple days to escape China, and then Ryan and myself will meet back up with you in Southeast Asia. In the documentary “Hiding,” filmmaker Justin Wheeler follows five North Korean refugees on their harrowing 3,500-mile journey from China to southeast Asia. It’s a modern-day underground railroad, but most never reach freedom. China doesn’t protect. China looks at them as economic migrants, and so will not protect North Korean refugees currently. Wheeler is part of LINK, a human rights organization that helped Danny Lee and other North Korean refugees find freedom. I think one of the most shocking, actually, moments was the conversation I had with one of the refugees in the film. He actually escaped North Korea, because he had a dream about King David in the Bible, and he had never heard of the Gospel before. He had never heard of Jesus. He had never heard of God before. He had to work every day in the steel yard and was never paid for his labor. Link has hosted 400 screenings of the eye-opening film across the US, raised more than $100,000 and launched 110 new LINK chapters on school campuses. We want to redefine the way people think about North Korea and the North Korean people. We want to provide emergency relief to North Koreans wherever they can be reached. In the growing cry to end the human rights crisis, some of the loudest voices come from Korean American Christians. Southern California’s Bethel Church is home to one of the largest Korean congregations in America. Each week, some 6,000 people come here for worship and they all share one burden: praying for the freedom of North Korea. Pastor Peter Sohn has called upon other Korean churches to join the mission. He and 1,600 pastors met for the first time to pray in Los Angeles back in 2004. Ministers burst into tears when we prayed together with one single heart, and we repented, for we have been too much silent, and we have been too much busy for our own ministry. And we almost forgot what they are suffering now in North Korea. So we have tears, and we cried out just like Nehemiah did for his own people in Jerusalem. Pastor Sohn has now formed the Korean Church Coalition. He is preparing to lead a Christian march in South Korea, as North Korean Dictator Kim Jong-Il prepares to transfer power to his son Kim Jong-Uhn. I remember the Martin Luther King march from Atlanta going up to Washington, D.C., more than one million people, and that great man of God proclaimed, “I have a dream. I have a dream in God.” Now it is about time we Korean Christians get together, and we have got to hear that famous sermon and proclamation, “We have a dream.” God will help us. And God will free the North Korean men and women, our fellows. Until all are free, it's difficult for Danny Lee to enjoy his new life in Southern California. The tears are for his grandmother. She died of starvation in North Korea not long after he escaped. Efrem Graham, CBN News, Orange County, California. Thanks. Ladies and gentlemen, when you look back in history, where did this group, where did the current dictator come from? Well, his father was Kim Il Sung. Who was he? He was like a lieutenant colonel in the army. And he was picked by the Russians as their man in North Korea after the Korean War. And he took on a god-like status among the people. They just poured the propaganda, and they almost deified him. So his son comes along, Kim Jong Il, who was a pudgy little sybarite who likes European prostitutes and fine wine and fine living, while at the same time he is persecuting his people in a manner that is undreamed of in the civilized world. Now, he’s got a son coming along, and they want to deify him, and they talk about the supreme leader and how wonderful he is. But he’s not, and it’s time that that myth get exploded. What could be the end of North Korea? I’ll tell you what would happen very simply. If South Korea, our ally, a very rich country, were to open its doors to refugees from the north, whoever comes in could find asylum in South Korea, the exodus from North Korea would be so intense that that whole regime would collapse. Now, there’s no question about it. They don’t have enough people to keep the economy running. And if there were a million or two million people that suddenly took off across the border, if they went into China then came back into South Korea, but the South Koreans won’t take them when they come out of China. It’s terrible. They’re their own kinsmen. They won’t do it. So in any event, pray for North Korea. The end will come. Now, I have an apology. I named yesterday a University of Texas quarterback and assigned him to Oklahoma. And I think that was the unpardonable sin. I’ve done a terrible thing. Well, we’re going to put him back where he’s supposed to be right now, and Kristi is going to tell about it. I am. Well, since you’re talking about football, I’m going to jump right on that bandwagon. Coming up, within four seasons, he won 45 games. You know that’s more than any other quarterback in the NCAA division one history? His name is Colt McCoy, and he tells how he made an amazing comeback from a crippling injury to becoming an NFL quarterback. Do you have money to burn? If not, you need to know that the paper dollars you've invested your life savings in are being consumed right now in a growing blaze of inflation and declining value. Economists know why the dollar is burning and at risk of crashing. It's because politicians and central bankers keep printing them, and this makes the dollars you've worked so hard to for, worth less and less. The politicians and bankers hated the gold standard, because it forced them to be honest. That's why the US dollar keeps losing value and could soon crash. The good news is that you can create your own personal gold standard and keep your savings protected when the dollar crashes. Call or visit online now. And everybody is invited. Everybody is invited. It’s going to be great. Okay, well, I gave him to Oklahoma, but the Longhorns say, “You have made a terrible mistake.” Actually, he was a quarterback for Texas, and he was one of the greatest ones until he had an injury. Well, we’ll tell you more about that. But he’s now in the NFL, Colt McCoy, a stellar athlete at the University of Texas. But during the final game of his college career, he sustained a shoulder injury that not only put him out of the game, it almost cost him his football career. Cleveland Browns quarterback Colt McCoy is making a name for himself in the NFL. Back in college, his statistics on the field are unprecedented. Within four seasons, he won 45 games, more than any other quarterback in NCAA division one history. But in his last game as a Longhorn, the 2010 BCS National championship, he suffered a shoulder injury that could have crushed his NFL future. Fifth play of the game, I get hit the right way, and I’m done. And to sit from the sidelines and be a cheerleader, which was all I can do at that point, watch them go through that and lose that game, and just the heartache from that, man, I was tore up. Daniel “Colt” McCoy grew up in a Christian home with his two younger brothers in Tuscola, Texas. He became a Christian himself when he was 14 years old. My parents did a great job when I was growing up, me and my brothers of having us in church all the time. It was just one of those things where I just really was convicted, started getting convicted over the summer and was reading my Bible a lot and really studying. And I guess that’s about the time where I was really starting to kind of grow into myself and mature a little bit. And I just really felt like that was the time. That was really the time where I was like, man, you know what, this is real. God is real. Heaven is for real. And I want to be on board. And that’s when I really made the decision to follow Christ. Colt played basketball and baseball as boy, but he didn’t play football until he was in the 7th grade. In high school his father was his head coach. He says it was an enormous challenge for him. (Interviewing): Was it challenging because you were playing football for your father? It was hard playing for my dad. It was hard to separate my dad as a coach and my dad as a dad. Which guy is it? And I had to work twice as hard as anybody else just to earn a job. Colt didn’t become a starter in high school until his sophomore year. But within three seasons, Colt became the all time leading passer for the state of Texas Division 2A. Then in 2005, he was recruited by the University of Texas. During the 2006 season, Colt broke the school record for most touchdowns thrown in a single season. Fast forward to the 2010 NFL Draft. Because of Colt’s shoulder injury during the BCS Championship game, he wasn’t selected in the first or second round. (Interviewing): What was it like watching the draft, having absolutely no idea what or if and when you were going to get picked up? By this time in the draft I’m thinking, man, just give me an opportunity. I don’t care if I’m a free agent. Just give me an opportunity to go play. That’s all I want. In the third round, Colt gets the call from the Cleveland Browns. The Cleveland Browns select Colt McCoy, quarterback, Texas. By the end of the 2010 NFL season, Colt was named the starting quarterback. Recently, Colt released a book with his father Brad McCoy entitled, Growing Up Colt, where they share about Colt’s persistent journey to the NFL. Now in his second season, he says whatever happens he’s ready to be the leader God has called him to be. (Interviewing): Who do you want Colt McCoy to be for the city of Cleveland? I want to do the same thing that I did and have the same attitude that I had when I came to Austin. I just want to be the light. That’s it. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. The number one thing in my life is Jesus Christ. And without Him, I am nothing. Without Him, I have accomplished nothing. And I want everyone to know that, and to know that you can have the same gift, the same opportunity, it’s free. God’s grace is free. He sent His son to this earth to die on the cross for our sins and gives us that grace, that hope of knowing that someday, when I pass this earth, I’ll have the opportunity to live with Him for eternity. Without Him, you can do nothing. What a wonderful attitude. It’s true. It’s what Jesus said, “Without Me, you can do nothing.” We can’t accomplish anything without Jesus. And everything we do accomplish is empty, unless it’s with Him, and then it takes on meaning and significance and life. Where is your significance? And do you know the Lord? He had made it so clear. Colt McCoy, here is this young fellow who is badly injured, and everybody was sort of writing him off, and suddenly he’s come back, and he’s going to be a star in whatever he does, because he’s playing for Jesus Christ. He’s an enormously talented athlete. But being a starter in NFL is nothing compared to knowing Jesus Christ. And folks, wherever you are right now, the Lord is speaking to you and saying, “Would you like to know Me?” Would you like to know that if you die, you’ll go to Heaven, that you will be part of the heavenly Kingdom? Or do you want to live your life aimlessly and then die and go to Hell? There are only two choices. You either are with God and you go to Heaven, or you’re apart from Him and you go to Hell. There’s no other choice. There isn’t any third way. But if you want Him, “He that hears My word,” Jesus said, “and believes on Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but is passed from death into life. He that hears My word and believes on Him who sent Me.” Jesus Christ is telling you right now you can be passed from death into life, and you can know now. You don’t have to wait until you die. You can know now. And if you want that assurance, and you want that blessing, I’m going to ask you to pray with me right now. He that has the Son has life. Do you want life? Do you want joy? Do you want peace? Pray with me. These words, “Jesus.” That’s right. Pray it. “Jesus, I turn from sin and I turn from selfishness, and I turn to you. And Jesus, right now, I ask that you would hear my prayer and that you would come in to my heart. Lord, at this moment, I surrender to you and I take you as Lord, and I take you as Savior. Thank you that you’ve heard my prayer, and thank you that you’ve come into my heart.” Now, if you prayed with me just then, I want to pray for you now. “Father, for everybody who prayed with me just then, may the anointing of the Holy Spirit come into their lives, in Jesus’ name. Amen.” Wherever you are, it’s so important. Your life is going to take on a whole new meaning. It’s going to be a brand new start. This is a new day. And I have something called “A New Day.” It’s a little packet we’ve prepared for people who just made a decision. I’ve got a CD in here, 73 minutes of teaching. It’s no financial obligation whatsoever. Just pick up your phone and call in. And if you don’t want to give us your name or anything, call anyhow and say, “I just prayed with Pat.” But if you’d like this little book, we’ll send it to you free. It’s 1-800-759-0700. Right now, somebody is there. And if for any reason, the lines are busy, please be patient and call back. We’re here all day long: 1-800-759-0700. I was playing 40-year-old women when I was 20, or 10 probably. I don’t know. I always looked older. More from the cast of The Help on today’s 700 Club. It doesn’t matter what anyone’s done. God’s forgiveness is bigger than any sin. And He can restore that life no matter how messed up, and how broken, and how much of a disaster they’ve made of it. If they’ve still got life and breath, God’s hand is still extended, and He'll still, like that father ran toward that son. If they would turn, He’d do what He did for me. He’d take off running towards them, wrap His arms around them, forgive him, and change their life. My name is Roger Stump, and I’m a cancer survivor. Welcome back to The 700 Club. A North Carolina county is looking to appeal a prayer case. Some of the residents of that county sued after commissioners opened a meeting with a prayer in the name of Jesus Christ. A federal appeals court ruled against the county. Now those commissioners want to take their case to the US Supreme Court. They say that praying in the name of Jesus Christ reflects the county’s religious makeup. A federal judge strikes down a prisoner’s request for a copy of the Satanic Bible. Illinois inmate Kevin Halfmann claims he needs the book to practice his religion, but security concerns led the judge to reject his petition. The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports the Satanic Bible has been banned in Illinois prisons for more than 20 years because of its potential to incite hatred and violence. Get a head start on your Sunday dinner. You ready to cook? Let’s rock it, brother. It’s time. Tomorrow on The 700 Club. Well, Abileneis an African-American maid who spent her life raising white children. Her friend, Minnie, backtalks the women she works for. And Skeeter is a young journalist who decides to tell everybody’s story. Well, all three characters are from the bestselling novel that’s now been made into a movie. Our very own Gorman Woodfin actually takes a look behind the scenes of the movie The Help. Disney’s touchstone pictures and DreamWorks are behind the inspirational film The Help, which releases nationwide today. Based on the New York Times list bestselling book, the film takes place during the early 1960s at the beginning of the civil rights movement in the south. It contains personal stories that show the effects of a segregated society on individuals of both races. Pastor: Courage isn't just about being brave. It is about overcoming fear and daring to do what is right for your fellow man. The story is about three women and their common cause. Skeeter is a young journalism student who just graduated from college. Two maids named Abileen and Minnie decide to help Skeeter with a controversial and potentially dangerous book project. They tell her stories about their lives as domestic help. These women raise white children. We love them, and they love us, but they can't even use the toilets in our houses. Tony Award-winning actress Viola Davis plays the role of Abileen Clark. That scene at the church was so powerful. And that was a real turning point, wasn’t it, for her? Yes. And Abileen is a strong believer. She writes down her prayers, because she believes that her prayers have power when they’re written down. And actually, every time she writes them down, they come to fruition. So once she is in that church, and she is conflicted; it's going back and forth. That's where she finds her purpose and her strength, and right in that scene. It's that extra push that she needs to live a life bigger than herself. Emma Stone plays Skeeter Phelan. Her character’s main goal becomes clearer as the film progresses. I believe that the route was incredibly personal. I don't think that her initial goal was to change the world. And then as time went on, through Abileen and through Minnie, she realized just how much this could really change, how much of the world this could really change. Ron Howard’s daughter, Bryce Dallas Howard, plays the villainess Hillie Holbrook. Hillie is the queen bee of the young women’s social network in Jackson, Mississippi. (Interviewing): What was your character thinking? When you started getting into her head, after you read the book, what were the main things that you felt like were her drives? What was she thinking about? Well, I feel like she is a very ignorant woman. And as a result, she really believes that what she is doing is right. Particularly to someone who is living in modern day America it just seems so cruel and illogically cruel. Veteran actors Allison Janney and Sissy Spacek play key supporting roles. When asked how much they enjoyed shooting with such a talented cast, they said: It was better than I had hoped for, actually. It was amazing. And we were the old-timers, of course. Remember when we used to be the ingénues? Well, I was never an ingenue. I was playing 40-year-old women when I was 20, or 10 probably. I don’t know. I always looked older. I think we laughed about this yesterday. I said I played teenagers until I was 40, and she played . . . . And I played 40-year-olds . . . . When she was a teenager. . . . . when I was a teenager. Octavia Spencer plays the strong-willed Minnie Jackson. One of the big themes of this movie to me about this movie is courage. I think Cicero said it best, “A man of courage is also full of faith.” And I think what your viewing audience will take from it is the faith that we all have in each other, that we have in God, that we have in our relationships. The Help is rated PG-13. I’ve got to tell you what, I haven’t seen the movie obviously, because it comes out today; but I’m looking forward to it. Well, it looks great. Yes, I was having a conversation with my girlfriend, yesterday, who had read the book. And it was interesting. When she was telling me some of the stories from the movie The Help, instantly my blood pressure started to rise a little bit. But then I realized the power of sharing a person’s story. When both sides, white women, black women, when everyone started to share their story, compassion started to flow. And when compassion flowed, so did change. And I tell you what, it’s a great movie. In fact, it’s called The Help. It opens today in theaters nationwide, and I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go see it. Well, that book, I think, was rejected about 60 times. The publishers didn’t want it. Now it’s a bestseller. It’s a great movie. I’m looking forward to seeing it. I haven’t seen it. I’m looking forward to it. Okay, well children in America are already shopping for back to school supplies, and most of them will need a backpack to carry those supplies in. But in the country of Guatemala, we met a boy who had to carry something else to class: a bucket of water. Very early every morning, 11-year-old Berto and his father take a tedious one-hour trek up a mountainside to collect water. And coming down the mountain with buckets full of water can be even more tricky. Once we went up to get water and I dropped my bucket, we had to climb up again. But Berto and his dad don’t just get water for themselves. They share a bucket with Berto’s school, which has more than 100 students and no fresh water supply. Once I drank from the water at school, and my stomach began to hurt. And the doctor said that it was caused by the dirty water I used to drink at school. So Operation Blessing decided to dig a well right on the grounds of the neighborhood school, and we even provided the children and staff with an electric pump, sinks and faucets, so they can have easy access to clean water. And that means no more trips to the top of the mountain for Berto. Now that I don’t go up the mountain to get water, I wake up a little later. I eat a better breakfast. I finish my homework on time. Thank you very much to all of you who gave us the water. Well, that’s one of the things that you do with CBN and Operation Blessing. And for those of you that want to help somebody like Umberto or those like him, you say, “Well, what can I do?” Well, you can’t drill a well, maybe. Maybe you can if you give a couple thousand dollars, you can do it. But if you want to join the 700 Club, it’s just 65 cents a day, we can change the world, with enough people at 20 dollars a month. That’s all it takes. And if you do, we want to send you Life Beyond the Grave. This Colton Burpo is one of the people featured on this thing. He’s got a book out that is now . . . . Does he? . . . . a national bestseller. It’s number one on some of the charts about what Heaven is like. Heaven is for Real. Well, I tell you what, I think he was four years old when he died and literally went to Heaven. And the things that he saw were amazing. And it has captivated, literally, the world. Well, the book has taken off like crazy. Heaven is for Real. But all right, but that’s one of the stories. But we’ll give you that to show our appreciation. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Okay, we’ve got some questions coming up. We do. All right, let’s go. Because you know we opened up our chat room for questions just for you. And here’s Jennifer, who says, “My 13-year-old daughter has low self esteem and confidence. She calls herself ugly, even though she’s really beautiful. She has few friends and wants to isolate herself from other people. I’m scared for her future. How can I help?” I think the biggest thing that that girl has got to know is to find Jesus and to realize that in Jesus she is beautiful. Jesus said she is beautiful. And in the Lord you are beautiful. And she’s got to understand. You have to teach her and show in Revelation how the saints look and there are other places in the Bible where it talks about angels, what they look like. And your daughter needs to understand that one day she will be looking like the angels. As a matter of fact, she’ll be more beautiful, because she’ll be in Jesus. But she has to take her self confidence in the Lord. I might also add, this is a phase she’s going through, so what you need to do is reinforce her and just keep your criticism to yourself. Even the little things can set her off. So always be giving her praise and support, and let her know that you love her and let her know Jesus loves her. And the Lord Himself will show her the answers. All right. That’s a brilliant word, brilliant. Absolutely brilliant, just because I was going to say the same thing. Thank you. But no, real quick, I remember when I was young and that same age, and I felt that same way. You feel awkward. You feel ugly. You feel like everyone hates you. But you can go to the Bible with her and show her the scripture that says, “You are made in the image of Christ. You are the head and not the tail. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” And you think about how God loves us, then she’ll realize that it’s not really about the outward appearance, but it’s about her heart and God’s heart for her. So anyway. Amen. There we go. Well, Rick says, “My wife took our kids and left me for another man.” Ooh, Lord. “A child psychologist said it would be best for my kids that it’s okay for me to be around the man who my wife left me for. How do I deal with this? Oh, and by the way, the other man is still married to another woman.” Is this Days of Our Lives? Oh, my goodness. It’s days of, “I’m going to kill him.” That’s crazy. I don’t know what you do, but I think this is the time that you need to bring some law in on that. This guy is philandering with your wife and living with your wife while he’s married. We’re talking about bigamy. We’re talking about a lot of things. I think you really need a lawyer on this one to go after him. This is outrageous, and you shouldn’t just sit back and say, “Oh, well, let it happen.” No way. These are your children, and this woman is going to ruin them, and you owe something to your children to rescue them. They’ve been captured. If she wants to philander and go off with this, that’s her decision. But she shouldn’t be allowed to ruin your children. So I really would get a lawyer and give him the situation. That sounds like you have a serious case that you could get custody or do something like that. That’s the truth. All right, here’s another one from Brittany, who says, “Growing up, I did not believe in God. But now I want to have faith. I want to believe in a higher power, but I feel that I’m too late. How do I begin and how do I find God for myself?” Well, you start out by looking at yourself and realize you’re a sinner. Until you come to the concept that you’re a sinner, it’s not what you want, “I want to find. I want to find. I want to do. I want to make.” It’s a question about what are you? In God’s eyes, you are a dirty sinner. Your righteousness is, the Lord said, like filthy rags. And you need to look at yourself and see that. That’s what Job said. He said, “I heard about you with my ears, but now I beheld you, and I abhor myself and repent in dust and ashes.” You need to come to a point where you say, “Before God, I am a sinner.” And then you say, “God, I know that you died for sinners like me, and I ask you to forgive me, and I ask Jesus Christ to come into my heart and life.” You turn away from sin. You turn to Him, and you ask Him to come in. It’s that simple. But you have to acknowledge your sin and then acknowledge what He did for you, and then ask Him to take over. It’s that simple. Okay. Don’t make it complicated. And the Bible says if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth, then you’re saved. We also have counselors that you can call if that’s a question for you: 1-800-759-0700. Okay, Alyssa says, “After you become a Christian, if you get away from your relationship with God, will He welcome you back?” Oh, that’s an interesting question. I want you to get that CD that I did that I offer, I was offering earlier today. I go into that. If you fall away, of course, you can come back to repentance if you don’t just totally deny the Lord, if you commit sin. We all do. So I think it was John Wesley that said, “There’s not one day I don’t plead the blood of Jesus.” So we ask Him to forgive us. We come back and say, “Lord, I have sinned. I ask your forgiveness. I ask you to come and take me over again. Please forgive me.” He’ll do it. It’s what He says, so ask Him. All right. There you go. God loves you. Chandler says, “Recently there was a shooting in my area. Now, my kids are scared. What can I tell them to bring them comfort?” Well, you can tell them how good Heaven is and not to worry about getting shot. I’m serious. You let them see how wonderful Heaven and that death isn’t the worst thing in the world. So somebody shoots you. So, big deal, you’re going to go to be with Jesus. So you say that to them over and over again. You will see Jesus. One day you’re going to die. It doesn’t matter whether you’re five years old, 50 years old, 100 years old, sooner or later we’re all going to die. It is appointed unto man once to die and after that the judgment. So say you’re going to see Jesus, and you will see all of our loved ones, and you will be part of Heaven. And you might get this thing that we’ve been talking about, this CD, Life Beyond the Grave. Let them see it. These are people who have actually died and gone to Heaven. They see how wonderful Heaven is, and it will comfort them. That’s what you do, or get that book by that young fellow, Colton Burpo. Well, tomorrow a man is given a zero percent chance of survival. Watch how he beats the odds. That’s tomorrow. And today we leave you with these words from the Psalms . . . . . . . . “For His mercy is great toward us and the truth of the Lord endures forever.. . . .” Tomorrow . . . . . . . . she wanted an easy life. What she got was hard time. I can remember slumping back against that ice cold cement wall and thinking, “I can’t take this anymore.” And then . . . . A woman’s fight for her husband’s life. Plus . . . . Get a head start on your Sunday dinner. You ready to cook? Let’s rock it, brother. It’s time. Tomorrow on The 700 Club. A humble Shepherd . . . .
