Former governor and presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee and the day that changed America forever. Well, welcome to The 700 Club. We’re going to talk with Governor Huckabee. We’re going to talk to Anne Gimenez. We’re going to talk about money and budgets and all that. But I want to talk about something that’s much more important. Yes. What’s that? Can I get a camera, please? This is my great-granddaughter having a tea party with Blue. Blue was very respectful. He was having a little bit. Isn’t that an oxymoron for a Doberman to be having a tea party? Not my Doberman. Blue can do anything. He has almost hit 3,000 on Facebook. Okay, well, back to the news. That’s the big news. The other is kind of . . . . That is the big news. It puts it all in perspective. Congress has wrapped up the debt deal, or they think they have. But much of the hard work and spending cuts and entitlement reform is yet to be done. Well, for now, Congress has just taken the first step. John Jessup takes a look at the winners and losers so far in the debt debate. The American people were winners by avoiding having to live with the consequences of a potential debt default. The deal allows the government to increase its borrowing limit and to stay current on its payments. If an agreement had not been reached, it could have resulted in higher interest rates on everything from home mortgages to student loans to car payments, while hurting Americans' investment and retirement funds. Another winner: Republicans and, specifically, House Speaker John Boehner. Many, including those who opposed the final deal, credit his leadership for helping the GOP with its drive to put Washington's spending binge on a diet. Did we get 100 percent of the discretionary cuts we were looking for? No. We got two-thirds. That is better than zero. And the Tea Party is credited for helping Republicans stay on course with the deficit-cutting agenda. House Republicans have fundamentally changed the debate in Washington. No longer will the debate be about how much more is the federal government going to spend. The debate now is how much spending is going to be cut. One surprise winner: Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords who appeared on Capitol Hill for her first vote since she was shot in January. She voted in favor of the bill. A big win for President Obama: avoiding this nasty fight again during a campaign year. But he had to make major concessions, like abandoning tax hikes on the wealthy while allowing reforms to Medicare. Those concessions make some Democrats feel like they came out on the losing end. This deficit reduction package is grotesquely unfair, and it is also bad economic policy. But the deal does set up a special joint bipartisan committee made up of three Republicans and three Democrats from each chamber. The committee must identify up to another 1.5 trillion dollars in savings that Congress must pass or face politically painful automatic cuts. Democrats believe the committee could bring the issue of tax reform back to the bargaining table. Republicans say they'll block any tax increases, but the president still wants them. The ultimate solution must be balanced. Big corporations and the wealthiest Americans shouldn't be exempt from kicking in. The debate is far from over. The work of the special Super committee puts everything into question, from taxes to Medicare to Social Security to President Obama's new health care law, which means we can expect more partisan bickering toward the end of the year when the Congress must vote on the panel's proposals. John Jessup, CBN News, Washington. I think, ladies and gentlemen, you and I have got to recognize that this is nothing but a Band-Aid. It is theater, and it’s nothing but theater. And what’s been done is so minimal it hurts. We have huge entitlement programs, Social Security and Medicare. And when the baby boom generation begins to go into retirement, which is happening right now, it’s going to strain the resources beyond anything we could imagine. And the unfunded liabilities are somewhere in the 50 to 60 trillion dollar range. They tower over the so-called stated debt we’ve been talking about. The Congress has got to get hold of that and say, “Listen, we must cut back the age of eligibility,” or extend it, I should say. As people get older, let’s face it, people are in the workforce well over 80 years of age, whereas when Roosevelt put in Social Security, people died at 65. They don’t do that any longer. So we’ve got to recognize reality. There’s got to be a fundamental restructuring of Medicare, a fundamental restructuring of Social Security; and the seniors have got to say, “We’re not going to destroy the future of our grandchildren in order to get a few extra bucks today.” But now it’s all selfishness, and as was pointed out to me earlier today—and it certainly is true—whenever the Republicans put a plan out, the Democrats immediately begin to demagogue it. They’re going to “throw grandmother over the cliff,” and they’ve got a picture of “these nasty Republicans throwing grandmother over the cliff.” Well, they say it’s the third rail of politics, but it’s time they start facing the fact that we are going to be bankrupt beyond anything you can imagine unless we control the spending. And what they did this week—and they’re saying what a great package it is, and we’re going to limit spending. That’s nonsense. They need to take a meat ax to many of the departments. They need to literally cut out some of the departments and stop the spending. If they’d just ratchet the spending back to about, well, let’s say 2004, for example, the budget would be balanced. So the spending has been there in the last few years, and if they took it back to where it was a few years ago, it couldn’t be all that big a sacrifice. But this rhetoric will drive you crazy. You’ve got to put on blinders and listen to what the truth is, and the truth is there are major reforms needed, and they haven’t even begun to address them. The same thing is true of the tax code. That thing has got to be changed, and, of course, they can take some of these crazy deductions out. They could do away with the mortgage interest deduction. They could do away with a number of them and get more revenue. But it’s not in the revenue from the rich. It’s in the revenue from the middle class. If anybody is going to get money, it’s got to come out of the middle class. So the middle class doesn’t like that, and I don’t blame them. So anyhow, Congress, they can congratulate themselves if they want to, but I don’t think so. Lee Webb has the rest of our top stories from the CBN Newsroom. Lee. And Pat, right along with what you’re saying, economists are now worried we might slip back into a recession. The signs sure point that way. Manufacturing is growing at its slowest pace in two years, and there is no indication it will turn around any time soon. The housing crisis continues to be a drag on the economy. So is unemployment. Analysts are also worried about high oil prices and slower growth in other parts of the world like China. A federal judge has blocked a new Kansas law that strips Planned Parenthood of federal funding. The judge ruled that the law is unconstitutional, because it intended to punish the group for advocating abortion rights. Kansas Planned Parenthood argued that the law would force it to close some of its clinics and raise fees. The state, though, claims that public health providers could handle those extra patients. Kansas attorneys argued the ruling is unconstitutional, because it replaces the state’s discretion with a court's judgment. The Obama Administration says insurance companies must offer free birth control as part of the president’s health care plan, and that includes the controversial morning after pill. Heather Sells has that story. Luke Vanderbleek owns a pharmacy in Illinois where he dispenses drugs every day, but he does not dispense the morning after pill, also known as Plan B or Ella. Vanderbleek, like many other pro-lifers, considers it an abortion drug. That’s because it can prevent the implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus. The product may work by stopping ovulation or halting ovulation before a sperm meets an ovum, but the opportunity for that to do that is very time sensitive. But the Obama Administration now says insurance companies must provide all forms of birth control, including Plan B, with no co-pay. Other services like breast feeding supplies, annual physicals, and screenings for diabetes and HIV will also be covered. The White House says the move will help women avoid health problems before they start. Half of women, according to studies, forgo or delay preventive care, because they can’t afford it. Women who want birth control can find it, and it’s ridiculously inexpensive these days. I’m told it’s less than nine dollars a month. So it’s not a question of people in need. There is an exception for faith-based organizations that offer health insurance to employees. They will not be required to cover contraception services. There is a huge body of Americans who object for religious beliefs to have contraception, and especially any abortive agent. Heather Sells, CBN News. The Family Research Council condemns the religious exemption language in this law. The FRC says it offers only limited conscience protection for certain churches that meet specific criteria. All that said, though, the law goes into effect in 2013. Fifty-two percent of American adults drink alcohol, according to a new government report. The report also shows that nearly a quarter of adults admit to binge drinking. For women, binge drinking means having four or more drinks at once. For men, it’s five or more drinks. Drinking was most common among 18- to 25-year-olds. The state of New Hampshire has the most young drinkers. Three-quarters of 18- to 25-year-olds there say they used alcohol in the past month. And the city with the most alcohol abuse? That would be the nation’s capital, Washington, DC. Pat. You’d think that would be true. They must be stoned most of the time or have buzzed—no wonder they do such silly things. They’re all high. This is the alcohol capital of America, along with everything else. Congratulations to our nation’s capitol. You’ve scored again. Terry. Well, coming up, a history lesson from Huckabee. We’re going to sit down with the Fox News star, and that’s next. Got a question for Pat? Send us yours now on CBN.com. We’ll Bring It Online with your questions from our live chat room, later on today’s 700 Club. A man with a crippling ailment finds relief on TV. He described the symptoms so accurately. And my wife yelled from the kitchen, “Joe, claim that.” And I said, “I am, baby.” How he was healed, on The 700 Club. Well, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee said it’s important that American children have an accurate understanding of history, so he’s making animated films for them. His latest deals with September 11, 2001. For those who lived through it, September 11, 2001 still evokes strong and often painful emotions. But children who were infants or toddlers at the time have grown up in a post-9/11 world and have no real understanding of that attack on America and the war on terror that followed. As the 10th anniversary of 9/11 draws near, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has released an animated film called “9/11 and the War on Terror.” It’s part of his “Learn Our History” series designed to help young people understand why Islamic terrorists attacked the United states and to help make sense of the tragedy America faced that fateful day. Well, former Governor Mike Huckabee joins us now from Little Rock. Mike, it’s good to have you back on The 700 Club. Welcome. Thank you very much, Pat. It’s a delight to be here. I know that you, too, are a student of history, and probably like me are frustrated that so many kids don’t have a clue about the real American history and how great a country we really have. Well, what are you teaching in the series you’re doing? Well, one of the things we want to do is to show that American history is very positive, that this is a good country. So many kids today, 25 percent of high school seniors surveyed, did not know who the first president was. Less than three percent of high school students could answer even three out of 10 questions on the citizenship test. We have really a history deficiency among young people. So the purpose of this is to take these animated videos that are very watchable for kids. It’s designed for kids. I think adults could learn something, but we make it very clear. This is for seven-year-old kids. But we want them to understand who they are as Americans. Pat, I’ve often said that it’s important that we remember that history is to a culture what memory is to an individual. If I woke up today and couldn’t remember a thing about my past, I’d be disoriented and lost. I’m convinced that one of the reasons America is as disoriented and lost as it is, is because we don’t know who we are, where we’ve come from, and don’t have grounding in our real, true history. We spend billions, uncounted billions on public education. Is education failing students? Is there like a deliberate plot to hide the truth, or what is it? Well, whether it's deliberate, it certainly is the effect, because if you look at a typical textbook today you'd think America is this imperialistic warmongering country that's gone around pushing people around for the last 250 years. You don't get an understanding of the virtue of our Founders. They weren't perfect people, but they had faith in God. They were people who believed we were a nation of destiny, and believed that with this great opportunity came great responsibilities. Primarily to provide freedom and liberty, and to make sure that there was an understanding of personal responsibility. Those are fundamentals, and those aren’t just the Christian beliefs that I have; in fact, the cofounder of Learn Our History is Jewish. But this is a series of history lessons that are put in a very fun way, but they really bring attention to the spiritual foundings of this nation in a way that I think parents are going to love, not just homeschool parents. Certainly they're going to love it, but put one of these in the car and for 25 minutes what we found is, not only do kids like it, in fact 98 percent of the kids who have watched the videos love them. But what's interesting, 89 percent of liberals who watch the videos actually like them. Where did he get them by the way? Are they available yet? Have you finished with the series? Well, they are. It's in a series. With the first two, we have one on the Reagan Revolution, one on the beginnings of World War II, sort of to help kids understand it. And then the newest one that's coming out really just in time for the 10th anniversary of 9/11 is a history on 9/11, what really happened that day. And one thing that occurred to us was that virtually any young American under the age of 14 has no recollection personally of 9/11. They really were not cognizant of the event itself, and that sometimes a little stunning for me to think that event which left such an imprint on all of us is really something they've only read about or heard about, but they weren't there. So what's we want to do in this one through Learn Our History—and you can go to learnourhistory.com and get all of the details. The first video is $9.95 and then $11.95 after that, a lot of things that come along with the first one, $50.00 in gifts. But mainly it's to give parents an opportunity. If you sat down with your kids and say, “Hey kids, let's learn American history.” They’d roll their eyes and say, “I’d rather eat broccoli.” But if you say, “Hey, would you like to watch a video? It's an animated video.” They'll watch it. Sure. And when they do, they don't even realize they're learning something very positive about their country. We speaking about our country, we've just gone through an agonizing few weeks of in and out. They say you shouldn't watch how sausage is being made, but we had to watch how it's being made up there in Washington. What you think of this debt deal? Have you got any take on it? It's as good as we're going to get given the dynamics of the Congress that we currently have. I know it's frustrating. As a conservative if you gave me a blank piece of paper and said come up with a plan, it wouldn't look like this at all. But then again, you don't have a blank sheet of paper. You have Harry Reid running the Senate. You've got Barack Obama running the White House and a razor thin majority of Republicans in the House. So until we get more of a handle of the moving parts, this one is about as good as we're going to get, because it doesn't increase taxes. It at least slows spending and puts the brakes on it. And we have changed the nature of the debate in Washington from how much more are we going to spend to how much more are we going to cut. I was a governor a long time. I always had to come to the conclusion that, if you're a thirsty man, a cup of even lukewarm water is better than no water at all. And sure you'd like ice water, but if you're really thirsty, you’ll take whatever moisture you can get. And that's kind of where we are. I keep telling my conservative friends: You want a better result? Get us 60 senators that are truly conservative, get us 275 or 300 majority in the House, and elect a Republican president with some true principled convictions, and then we can get some things done. Even then it will be hard, because you'll be fighting the bureaucracies, and you'll be fighting the overwhelming monolithic press that just leans way to the left. Last question. You were number two in the polls and rising swiftly. People thought you might be a great candidate, and you seemingly stepped aside to pursue your career with Fox. Am I saying it right? Well, I was closer than most people think to jumping in, Pat. But when it got down to it I felt like the atmosphere right now is so toxic. And part of it is that I think that many people in my party, the Republican party, are unrealistic, and what they want is something that no one can deliver. And that's a candidate that is going to solve every problem in an election cycle. It just didn't appear to me that the support was strong enough to merit my getting in. I think one of the sad things is we've got sort of a triumvirate of power. It's the media; it’s the money machine, and it's the institutional ruling class. And those three incredibly powerful entities are really running things. And unfortunately the American people—when I say the American people, not that that's monolithic either, a wide variety of views. But the people that, let's say who watch your show every day, and go to work and just don't care that much about politics day by day, they just want government to leave them alone and let them raise their families and put food on the table. Have jobs. Those folks are kind of shut out of the process, because money drives the politicians, and the politicians drive the money. It sort of an evil empire to be honest with you. Well, thanks for that. That's a very candid appraisal, and you're right on the money. Well, thanks so much for being with us. Congratulations on this new project, and folks you can get copies of this series Learn Our History. You can go to our website, CBN, we can give you a link to Mike Huckabee's website. Terry. Well, up next a thug who turned to armed robbery to support his drug habit. Once the victim sees the gun, they're not going to struggle with you, man. Then we ransacked the house and see what we can find. How he found what he was really looking for inside prison, after this. Her story touched us. When can I surf again? Her comeback inspired us. I don’t need easy; I just need possible. And showed us what it takes to be a true champion. Soul Surfer, now on Blu-Ray combo pack. By the time he was in his early 20s, Angelo Vega would inject heroin into his arm every morning and then rob homes when he needed money for another fix. Angelo had developed a routine, one that was broken when he was sentenced to hard time. I began to do drugs and begin to shoot cocaine in my veins. Money was running out. I had to survive. We would show up and knock on the door. One of us is standing to the side. I forced my way in, and he's coming behind me with the gun already ported up. Once the victim sees the gun, they're not going to struggle with you man. So one of us takes his hands back and duct tape it, so he can't make any sudden moves. So then we ransacked the house and see what we can find. Angelo Vega was always on the run and always got what he wanted, except a real family. Growing up he was handed off to live with different family members across the US and Puerto Rico. I was always rejected. My mother and father, and they wanted nothing to do with me. They had their own lives. I see people around me all the time who has families, and they were functional families. I always desired that. At one point he lived with an alcoholic grandfather who beat him every night. And he would just come in there, and drag me by the head, and throw me to the floor, and just take his belt off, and just begin to whip me and whip me and whip me. I was so young I couldn't retaliate, because I was scared he was going to beat me down so bad again. I had all this anger being stored up inside of me. Angelo lashed out at other students at school and was sent back to his father a drug dealer. One day I came across his stash, and I started to experiment with marijuana at that age, 13. I would take it to school, and I show all the other kids, look what I've got man. And I started selling drugs to get money. By the time he was 18, he ended up in jail on drug charges. There he met members of the gang called “The Latin Kings” who wanted Angelo to join them. I mean, “I have been rejected all my life, and now you guys are telling me you're going to love me, and I'm going to be a part of family finally, the family that I never had.” He began fighting other inmates for his gang and ended up in solitary confinement for a year. The other gang members forgot all about him. They said they were going to keep in touch with me, and whatever I needed there were going to make sure that I had it. Everything they ever talked about is a lie. It's not true. It's the same thing I felt when I was a kid. I was rejected all around. I was angry. I was stuck. I was depressed. Once Angelo was released, he needed cash to buy drugs and began robbing homes. We’d duct tape them at gunpoint. Lay them on the floor. Load it up and took off. Took everything. Angelo was caught and went to prison again for eight years. His cellmate invited him to go to the prison's chapel service. I said, “Brother, “I don't go to church. I didn't come to prison to go to church. I came to prison to do eight years.” And he said to me, “Well, you’re a gang member, right?” I said, “Yeah, I’m a Latin King.” And he said, “Well, I think I saw one of them in the service.” I said, “You did? Wow! Really!” I said, “Man, where do I sign my name.” That night he went to the service. He didn't see any gang members, but he heard a message that changed his life. The man of God began to preach. And he began to share that God is willing. God is there, and God wants to speak to you today. I found myself in the prayer, and I was saying, “God, if you're real, if this is true about you, speak to me.” After the service Angelo walked forward to talk to the pastor. He said, “The Lord wants me to tell you that three years ago you almost died, but he kept you alive because of His grace.” There was no way that this man could know that I almost had an overdose exactly three years ago. This is not a coincidence. And so immediately I knew it was God. I knew that God spoke to me, and I was shaking. I had to get out there, and I go into my cell and got on my knees. I was weeping. Angelo was transferred to a new prison to serve the remainder of his time. That's where he discovered Teen Challenge, a Christian drug rehabilitation program. Everybody that goes to Teen Challenge, they get released from prison. I said, “Man, that's the program for me.” But once again he heard the same message that he had in the prison service. And he began to share how God so loved the world, even though we deserved condemnation, He didn't come to do that. He came to liberate and set the captives free. When he said He didn't come to condemn the world, right there I knew it was love. It was a love that the gang could not offer me. It was something deep, profound. So I prayed, and I meant business with God. “God I am so sorry that I rejected your Word. I'm so sorry that I ran from you when I came into this prison. I'm so sorry. Lord, I believe that Jesus Christ came and died on the cross. And because of that, Lord God I accept you today as my personal Savior.” I felt awake. It was like chains were lifting off of me that morning. This Scripture became the reality in my life. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. All things have passed away. Behold all things become new.” Angelo finished a drug rehab program and his prison sentence. He now works full-time with Teen Challenge helping others who share the same struggles he once had. One of the things I love the most of this job is to see when God takes a person that is broken and put them back together. My grandfather really didn't care less. My father, all he cared about was his drug business. My mother tried, but she really wasn't there for me. The gang gave me a false philosophy of love. But God, nothing is like God. He definitely knows how to love like a true, true father. Because He is a true father. You know, rejection sets up such a fear in us to be willing to trust. What if people aren't dependable? And they're not. What if situations change? And they do. What if promises aren’t kept? And they often aren't. But God, as Angelo said, but God is who He says He is. Is always there. His promises are real and there for you. So it doesn't matter what kind of rejection you've experienced from other people or what people have done to you. What pain you've gone through. Whether you've been abandoned. Whether other people have seen you as not valuable. God says you're his child. God says He had you on his mind before He created anything. God says He loves you, and He wants to have a relationship with you. And here's the really amazing part. You don't have to do anything to earn it. You just have to say, “Yes.” He's so unlike anyone or anything else you have ever known or ever will know. But He's real. Pat likes to say that one man's experience trumps another man's opinion. You can't argue with the experience that Angelo had. He had no basis for being able to come into a place of receiving love, giving love, trusting. But one day in desperation he cried out, and God saw his humility, his sincerity, and his need and reached into his heart and life, and changed him. Truly, truly, changed him. You know, you get hooked on that kind of thing. Now Angelo is working with other people, because he loves seeing God change lives. It's not just for a few. The Bible says anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. So the question for you today isn’t whether God can or will save you? The question is will you call upon the name of the Lord? Will you humble yourself like Angelo did? Will you trust God even though so many people have disappointed you or not seen value in you or abandoned you, left you hopeless. Maybe you're the one who's done all of that in your life, but today you can have a new beginning. You can have a new beginning. Will you pray with me? Will you invite the same God into your heart and life? Will you allow the same Jesus to be your Lord and Savior? Let's pray together. Just pray with me right now, “Lord, I need to know you like Angelo knows you. I need your forgiveness. I need your mercy and your grace extended to me, because I've lived far away from you, and I've done things I would be too ashamed to mention out loud. But God you are a God of love. You're a God of mercy and grace, and so today I'm asking you to forgive me. Please forgive me like Angelo, I am so, so sorry for what I've done, for how I've lived. I am so, so sorry for rejecting you. I've wailed on and cried about how rejected and abandoned I am, and yet I've done the same thing to you. Today I am coming home to your heart, God. And I'm asking you to take up residence in mine. I give you my life, all that I am, all that I have. Be the Lord of my life and the Savior of my soul. Change my life. Teach me how to live for you. Show me what truth is. Help me to be willing to let go of my own ideas, my own thoughts, my own past crutches so I can grab hold of you for all I'm worth, God. I want everything that you've got to give. I want to be everything you created me to be. I want to know your love, and I want to be able to extend that love to other people because of what you've done in my life. Thank you for waiting for me. Thank you for loving me so unconditionally. Thank you for being my Father, my Savior, my Lord, in Jesus’ name I pray.” Amen. If you’ve prayed that, then you have a new beginning today right now. It doesn't mean you can change yourself. It just means moment by moment, surrender to Him. But you've got to find out more about Him. How do you do that? Well, get into the Bible. You know, I used to think that it would be the most boring book in the world to read. It turned out to be the best book I’d have ever read. I had so many opinions about things I knew nothing about. Get into the Word of God. It's His love letter to you. We've got a little packet called “A New Day” that we’ve put together for you. It's filled with information from the Bible and also some information on how to grow in your new relationship. It's absolutely free. All you have to do is call the toll-free number that's on your screen. It's 1-800-759-0700. Just say I prayed that prayer, and I'd like the New Day packet. We will give it out to you right away. Pat. Thanks. Well still ahead . . . . . . . . along with her husband she founded one of the fastest growing churches in the country and helped start one of the biggest Christian rallies at our nation's capital. We've got Anne Gimenez with us, a new book, Born to Preach. You don't want to miss it. She'll be back when we come back after the news. I didn’t understand what love was. I didn’t have a good example. I knew of God, and I would often think to myself, “God if you’re real, help me in this situation.” I told the Lord; I said, “God, I don’t have anything to offer you. It’s just me and my little baby, and I don’t have anything together.” I had peace; it was so refreshing. He loves you so much that He died for you. And if He can do all of this in my life, He can do it for you. This is what I used to look like, and this is what I look like now. Lifestyle Lift helps remove wrinkles, frown lines, and sagging skin. Recent legislation recognizing same-sex couples in New York and Illinois has called into question the over gay adoption. The Every Child Deserves a Family Act was first introduced two years ago. Now more than 50 members of Congress have signed on to the legislation. It would deny funding and licensing to any agency that discriminates based on a couple's sexual orientation, gender, or marital status. An attack on a Christian church in Iraq injured 14 people. Police say a car bomb in the northern city of Karkuk heavily damaged Assyrian Catholic Church. Security forces later disabled a second car bomb near an Anglican church. Karkuk is an ethnically and religiously mixed city several hours north of Baghdad, and Sunni Muslims have targeted Christians in Iraq there in the past. She says she was quote, “Born to preach,” Even though she nearly wasn't born at all. If abortions had been legal in the 1930’s, Dr. Anne Gimenez never would have seen the light of day. Instead her arrival marked the beginning of a life of miracles. Pastor Anne was ordained as a preacher at the age of 19. Then she traveled extensively as an evangelist before marrying the late John Gimenez. Together they founded one of the fastest-growing churches in America. The Rock Church International in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They also birthed the Washington for Jesus rallies, a national event. Anne continued the ministry after John’s death. Then in 2010 her life almost ended when she became extremely ill. Well, please welcome back to The 700 Club our dear friend, pastor of one of the largest churches in our area, Anne Gimenez. Hey, it’s good to see you. Thank you Pat. What a pleasure to be here today. Hey, you look so good. You almost died. What happened to you? Pat, a year ago I collapsed and was unconscious 15 days. Never had any warning, no pain, nothing, and I was unconscious 15 days. They rushed me to the hospital in Palm Beach, Florida. I had been on a retreat with all of our pastors. I don't remember the retreat. I was in trouble, but I didn't know it. Rushed me in the middle of the night to a hospital. In fact I told Robin. She had taken me to his cousin’s house, and I said, “Go get your daddy.” Well, John had been gone two years, and she said, “Well, Mother, Daddy’s not here.” I said, “Yes he is , he just went down the hallway.” When she told me I said, “Robin if I was seeing the dead, you knew I was in trouble.” And they rushed me to the hospital, Pat. And by the time Robin could sign my name and get back there, they slapped me with paddles and began to tell her your mother will not live this night. And she said, “You don't know my mother. She will live.” Pat, they called her in that hospital, for 15 days they called her “the troublemaker.” I have to tell you this, and I know you know Dr. Crandall from Palm Beach, Florida. Yeah, a dear friend, yeah. A nurse told Robin, and every night they would tell her that, and God just kept bringing me through. I had total organ shutdown. Pat, I was on every machine they could put on me and was on life support. Of course, they said people don't come back from this. My heart was ten percent. My kidneys didn't function. My liver stopped functioning. They were breathing for me, everything and said, “She can't come back. People don't come back from this.” And she said, “My mother will live, she will not die.” And one day as I was unconscious, a doctor came in and was talking and talking, and Robin said, “Come over to the doorways with me for just a minute.” This is my daughter. She said, “Do you see that line right there on the threshold?” He said, “Yes.” She said, “Don’t you ever step over that again.” She said, “I will not have you in my mother's room saying she's going to die. She might can hear you, and I'm not going to let you say that.” And she threw him out. And then later she went down to the nurse and said, “I want to know who the head doctor is.” They said, “Well you were talking to him a little while ago.” And she threw out the head doctor? She threw my head doctor out, said, “Don't ever come back in this room.” Weren’t they trying to starve you and let you just die? Pat, I realized later. She medevaced me after. I was unconscious 15 days, and I was there two weeks. The nurse had said, “Well you seem to have such faith,” She said, “You know there's something else wonderful happened in this hospital.” She said, “What are you talking about?” She said, “Well, there is a Dr. Crandall here, and he prayed for a man, and he was dead from a heart attack, and he came back to life.” Robin said, “You mean he’s in this hospital?” She went and found Dr. Crandall. Of course, quickly the connection was made between Gordon and Dr. Crandall, you and all of us, and he came and he told Robin—of course I was coming out of the coma. But he told Robin, “He prayed, and he said, your mother won't die.” This was Dr. Crandall. You know the story. He prayed for a man had been dead for what was it? 40 minutes or something. He was on this show with the man. Yeah. Yes. And he said, “Your mother won't die. She's going to live.” Well after a few weeks, because they could never tell me why this happened. And Robin medevaced me to Dallas Presbyterian. They ran every test imaginable for two days, nuclear, everything. Pat, I will never forget, you know, how the doctors come in late at night. This team of doctors that had been sent. They came in and he leaned and he looked at me through the bars, the hospital bed. He looked at me. I wish I had had a tape recorder. He said, “My God woman, eat.” If I’d had a tape recorder, I would have said, “Say it again.” He said, “Eat.” He said you have been pushed to the brink of starvation. Pat, I personally believe for the 15 days—they might have given me fluids. I believe it was age discrimination. They were so positive I would die every night. I don’t believe they fed me. They keep people alive for years. They didn’t get me nourishment. They probably gave me fluids, but they didn’t give me nourishment. And when I woke up after 15 days, the second day, I said to my daughter, finally, I said, “Robin, am I paralyzed? Yeah. I had no clue. I had no point of reference where I was or why I was there. I didn’t know what had happened. In fact, I didn’t know if I was hallucinating about being in a hospital. I thought it was a dream. And she said, “Mother, you’re not paralyzed. Why?” I said, “All I can do is turn my head.” And, Pat, later, looking back, I realized I had suffered such debilitation in my muscles, I had lost all muscle strength. All that was left after 15 days of not—they never turned me. They never moved me. They said, “She’ll die. She’s dying.” That’s awful! That’s awful. Pat, I could only turn my head. I couldn’t reach up. They’d put food in front of me, and they’d take it away. I wondered why they never came with food. They’d put it in front of me every day. I didn’t know it, and I couldn’t even get my hands up to get my hand on a coffee cup. They finally got a fork in. I would try to push my food on it. I’ve seen old people eat that way. Push the food, try to get it up to my mouth. Well, you’re a living miracle. I am a pure miracle. And, Pat, not only once did I almost die. The leading heart doctor at Presbyterian Hospital, over at the Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, was my doctor. And when I was going—they wanted me to stay in the area about a week after I came in the hospital just to make sure I was stable. And so I begin visiting my key doctors, getting them checked out. When I went to the heart doctor, he says, “Well, why is she taking such and such medicine?” Robin said, “Well, her blood pressure is fine.” He said, “Oh, no, this is one of the most important things she takes.” He said, “You need it twice a day.” In fact, you need it right now. And he sent the nurse to get a cup of water. He said, “You take one now. You take it twice a day.” Pat, by two days later, I could hardly wake up. I could hardly move. And Robin said, “I’m not going to do this again.” She said, “I’ll call an ambulance right now.” I thought she was mad at me. I remember. I said, “I just can’t move.” So she got me—we have a friend in Dallas that got me to another heart doctor. And he has a machine that’s new, that literally they do a scan of your heart and then put you in front of the computer. And he said, “I can see everything an autopsy can see,” and that computer opens your heart up. He could see every chamber. And I remember he said, “When this chamber is vibrating, you’ve had a stroke. When this chamber is vibrating, you’ve had a heart attack. When all four of them are vibrating, a virus is . . . .” And I could see them all four. They were just vibrating. He’s the first one that diagnosed me correctly. “A virus hit your heart.” And he told them later, he said, “Three more days, and you wouldn’t be able to wake your mother up.” He said, “Your doctor gave her a double dose daily of heart medicine that slowed her heart down.” When I went to see him, he said, “She’s so full of fluid, not only her body cavity, every organ is so full of fluid, I’ve got to get 15 pounds of water off of her in two days.” He said, “You’re filling up inside. Two more days, you wouldn’t wake up.” First of all, they think you’re going to die and starve you. And then the guy misdiagnoses and gives you a pill that slows . . . . He almost killed me. Almost killed you. And then I had pneumonia that they misdiagnosed. Dear Lord. What a horror story. And, Pat, I’m going to tell you what a minister told me. He said, “Pastor Anne, the devil tried to kill you, and he didn’t. That means he couldn’t.” Pat, I am a firm believer. You and I and those that are watching, we know the Lord. Our days are numbered, and our days are in God’s hands. And the enemy cannot take you out when your life is hidden in Christ Jesus. I love it. Hey, her book, called Born to Preach, a fabulous story of a little girl from Texas who married this ex drug addict, John Gimenez, went on to found the Rock Church, dear friend. You all have been here for how many years? Pat, we’ve been in this area about 42 years. Forty-two years. We came here, because before we were ever married, John met you in London. That’s right. And when we were married, we had just been married a few months, he said—we were evangelists—he said, “You know, Pat Robertson told me if I was ever on the east coast to come and be on The 700 Club.” You were over in Portsmouth in that little tiny—and I know you’re getting ready to celebrate a big anniversary. Fifty years next year. But I knew you “when.” And I knew you when. And I remember coming through those glass doors down there. And John and I would be on The 700 Club. There were times we would just go pass time, and God would start moving and pouring out His Spirit. We’d just sing. And we had a song we sang, “The devil is mad, and I’m glad.” You had those tambourines. I had a big one. I had a big one. It was a blast. Well, Anne, I know people are going to love this book, Born to Preach. It is a moving story of faith. This lady sitting here is a miracle. I know, because I was there seeing what happened. And I loved her husband, and we did Washington for Jesus. It was 500,000 or so people. It changed the course of America, the prayer. Pat, I thought the other day, in my life, probably the biggest leap of faith I have ever taken was marrying John Gimenez. I believe it. Pat, he had only been clean—I’d known him three and a half years, because I had been an evangelist three and a half years before I ever met John and married him. Well, I knew him two and a half years before I married him. And the story is in the book, that he was in New York in trouble, and I went and picked him up, took him back to David Miner’s house and left to go to a meeting and thought, “I don’t ever want to see that person again.” And he called me in the middle of the night. I was at Elim Bible School, and he said, “Please come get me. I’m in New York. I’m in trouble.” I got a young man to get in the car with me. We drove all night, another ex addict! I was hoping he was “ex.” We went to New York, drove up and down Fox Street, Westchester. And I’m sitting there. We’re looking. I don’t know where we’re going to find a needle in a haystack. And I stopped suddenly at a red light, and we’re just talking, “Where are we going to find John?” And I see this shadowy figure coming across, staggering, kind of cattycorner. As he got right by me, and I’m getting ready . . . . And that was him? It was John! This boy with me, he jumped out and threw him in the back seat, and we took off. Pat, that was sovereign. If he had crossed—he had just woke up from an overdose. Good Heavens. If we hadn’t found him. And on the way to Brother Miner’s, he’s crazy out of his head. He said, “When are we going to get married, babe?” And I’m thinking, “Shut up.” I’m just driving and driving. And he keeps it up. “When are we going to get—you know I love you.” And I’m saying, “Yeah, yeah.” And he said, “When are we going to get married?” Just to get him to go to sleep and hush, I said, “In about a month,” and we kept driving. Pat, that was August 1st. And a month later you did. I married that man on . . . . You’re kidding. September 1st. The story’s in the book. The biggest leap of faith I’ve ever taken in my life, and it was a miracle. And I tell in there about how God told me, gave me three promises. I opened my Bible. I don’t tell them I just opened it and pointed, but I opened my Bible and I said, “God, you’ve got to talk to me.” There was a man sent from God. His name was John. And I closed it up, and I said, “Well, that was just coincidence.” So I said, “All right, Lord, I need a word from you.” I opened it up and put my finger on it, and it said, “That which I’ve cleansed, that call thou not common.” I slam it. Pat, I knew. I was 34 years old when I got married. I had put everything on the line, my family, my boyfriend, everything. I wanted to serve God, and I wanted to be clean. I wanted to live my life for God. And I knew if I married John Gimenez, and it wasn’t God, I was throwing away everything that I had made every sacrifice for. I put it together, and I said, “All right, God, one more time.” I opened my Bible up. Before God I put my finger on the scripture where Mordecai said to Esther, “Who knows but what you’ve come to the Kingdom for such a time as this.” And that’s the story. It’s all in the book. Born to Preach. Where do you get the book? They can get it at Rockchurch.org. They can go to my new website www.annegimenez.com. Okay. And they can get it at all their favorite bookstores. All right. Born to Preach, Anne Gimenez. God bless you. I think God for what you're doing. A miracle lady with a miracle marriage to a dear friend. It wasn't extraordinary experience, 40 some years. The surgeon said it's inoperable. “It's already in your liver.” My wife, Brenda, sat there and cried; and I'm thinking, “I can't die right now. I'm only 52 years old.” I was so distraught. He says, “Pat, I have a roommate to help me pay the bills. But recently, I caught him smoking pot, and now I want him out. I have two problems: number 1, he won’t leave, and number 2, I won't be able to pay the bills if he does go. How can I evict him, and what can I do to make ends meet without him helping to pay the rent?” Let me tell you the sad truth. If the feds come, or in the narc’s or whoever come in, and there's pot in there, they can not only take him out, they can confiscate your property and take it away from you. You can't have somebody in there during that. So if you have to call the police, call the police; but better than that to say listen, Charlie, you're out leaving. If need be, hire a couple of big bruisers to throw him out. But you cannot allow that. You say you won’t pay the bill. Well, you can get another roommate. There are other roommates. But by all means, stop that relationship. All right. Okay Pat, this is MT who says, you call Social Security an “entitlement.” Why? I paid into Social Security my entire life. It's a return on investment I made, and I don't think it should be cut.” Well, I tell you, if you do the actuarial you'll find that you will get in benefits vastly more than you paid in, normally speaking. On the other hand, for those of you who are looking for a good investment, Social Security is a lousy investment; and you're far, far better to be able to invest your own money. They use the term “entitlements,” because they do not count that as an investment. They do not think that it is a claim against the government. The courts have ruled that the government is free to pay you or not pay you. So, I'm sorry they've taken your money, but they've taken all of our money, and they’ve wasted it. But they use the term “entitlement.” I didn't call it that, that's what everybody calls . . . . That is what it is called. . . . . Medicare and Social Security. They're “entitlements.” You say it's an investment. Well, I'll tell you what, I put a bunch of money in; and well, I won't go into all that, but it's not a very good deal. Go ahead. This is Tamara who says, “I've noticed that there are lot of stores and companies that support issues such as gay marriage. Do you think we as Christians should boycott them?” I’m not keen on boycotts, because they look silly and they don't work. But at the same time, if somebody is advertising, you know, waving the flag of the gay banner, you certainly don't have to patronize them. And you just quietly stop shopping there and go someplace else. I don't think we ought to organize a boycott. I don't like them. They don't work. This is Cindy who says, “I know that the Bible teaches us there are times when we should fast and pray. There have been situations in my life where I have felt led to do so. However, I am insulin resistant and cannot skip meals. Would giving up a certain food for a period of time be considered fasting with my health issues? I don't think there's any question about it. They had the No Pleasant Bread where people weren't eating sweets. There are a lot of things that you can fast from. There’s television; you can fast. Yes, that's right. Yeah, it's something that you say to God, “I'm denying myself this, because I want to pray and seek you.” Here’s a question from one of our viewers, quickly. “Hebrews 10:26 and 27, says, “If Christians continue to send it will not be forgiven. Is this true? Do you think many Christians struggled due to unforgiven sin?” It doesn't use the term “Christians.” It says “if you have denied the son of God and made the blood of Christ and unclean thing.” It's more than that. You have completely gone into apostasy, and then he goes on to say, “but I'm persuaded better of you brothers.” So it doesn't say “if a Christian.” You're reading that wrong. Read what it says. Read the words. And read them carefully. Before and after. Before and after. Well, that's all the time we've got. Thanks for being with us. And tomorrow think outside the pill. We've got America's pharmacist, Suzy Cohen. She's fabulous. We'll see you tomorrow, bye-bye. Here at CBN, we see amazing things happen when we stand together. That’s why we want to say thank you to the thousands of you . . . . . . . . who recently pledged to join the 700 Club. Your monthly gift makes it possible to bring crucial help to those who need it most. You help heal the sick, feed the hungry . . . . . . . . and preach the Gospel across America and throughout the world. You’ve brought health and hope to people in desperate need. And changed their lives forever. This widow was so poor she had to search for food for her children. Many times all she could find was ant larvae. When her daughter became ill with a deadly parasite, you sent a free medical clinic that saved her life. You also gave this family a small poultry business so that they can support themselves. Your love ended their despair. So please watch for this mailing and send in your pledge. This year millions will know . . . . The love and saving power of Jesus Christ.
