The 700 Club - July 15, 2011
When Tamara Laroux was 16 she shot herself in an attempted suicide. As she drifted out of consciousness she experienced revelations of heaven and hell that would change her life forever.

Well, welcome to The 700 Club. For today’s headlines, let’s go over to the CBN News Desk.
Gordon, Minnesota lawmakers have finally reached the outline of a deal to end the longest government shutdown in that states history. It had closed state parks, cut off funding for many social services, and placed 22,000 state employees out of work temporarily. Efrem Graham has the story.
It’s a budget battle that sounds a lot like the stalemate in Washington. On one side, Minnesota's democratic Gov. Mark Dayton wanted to raise taxes on the richest Minnesota residents. On the other side Republicans who refused to support any tax hikes. In the end, the governor didn't get any new taxes.
I'm disappointed I wasn't able to persuade the legislative majority of the wisdom of my approach to raising taxes on the wealthiest Minnesotans; but I have three and a half years left in my term, and I will continue to try to make that case to Minnesota.
Minnesota's top three top budget negotiators left the governor's office Thursday with the framework of a deal that did include more spending than Republicans wanted, and no one left happy.
We have a framework agreement I guess is the best way to look at it.
Republicans won their push not to raise taxes, and leaders still found a way to get the $1.4 billion the governor wanted for spending. Some will come from education and the rest will come from the sale of bonds tied to tobacco lawsuit settlement funds.
It was about making sure we had a deal that we all can be disappointed in. But it's a deal that is done, a budget that will be balanced, a state that will be back to work.
In the end, both sides agreed that compromise brought disappointment, but it does bring the state's longest shutdown in history to an end. Efrem Graham, CBN News.
Lawmakers in Washington are working on a compromise to avoid a possible default, and the pressure is building for Congress to reach a deal. The credit rating agency Standard and Poors says there’s a 50 percent chance it will downgrade the US government’s credit rating within three months because of the stalemate over approving an increase in the debt ceiling. Today debt ceiling negotiations have shifted to Capitol Hill, but there’s still a fundamental disagreement over raising taxes.
I’ve said I’m willing to make very tough spending cuts. I’m willing to make modifications to entitlements like Medicare and Medicaid. And I’ve said in return let’s make sure that folks like myself who have been extraordinarily blessed, are contributing to the sacrifices that are necessary.
Republicans will not be reduced to being the tax collectors for the Obama economy.
Congress is looking at three deficit reduction plans to see if any could pass the House and Senate.
California will become the first state to require public schools to teach gay and lesbian history. Governor Jerry Brown signed the bill Thursday. The law mandates information about homosexual and transgender Americans be included in social studies curriculum and in textbooks. Critics say it could lead to more parents pulling their children out of public schools in California.
A short film had a high profile showing on Capitol Hill Thursday. It documents the near genocide of Iraq’s ancient Assyrian Christian civilization. Paul Strand has the story from Washington.
Congressmen and media mixed with the Assyrian’s anxious to plead their cause at this showing of Defying Deletion.
It highlights how other Iraqis have systematically targeted the Assyrian Christians who’ve called Iraq their homeland for thousands of years. More than half have fled.
That's 600,000.
Andre Anton is a 26-year-old director of the fast-paced, Defying Deletion.
There's a lot of shootings, there's a lot of bombings. Churches have been bombed. I would say over 60 churches have been bombed.
The filmmaker says extremists often go after Assyrian priests.
They want to instill fear into the rest of the population, so what better way to do it than actually kidnap and kill somebody that's meaningful and powerful?
The film points out other Iraqis are out to grab the homes, lands, and resources, of the Syrians among them. But the main reason for the persecution is the Assyrian’s Christianity.
That's why they're getting attacks from these extremists who are saying, “Okay, these are Christians like the Americans, let's show them what we think of them.”
This is all very personal for Anton whose family is in America only because of the 33 attempted genocides against his people over the last 1400 years.
I'm one of the hundreds of thousands of the Syrians that have been born here because of the constant persecution.
Anton and his fellow Assyrians hope that America will use its influence to push for an actual Assyrian homeland in Iraq or at least more protections for these beleaguered Christians. Paul Strand, CBN News, Washington.
Now let's go back to Terry to find out what's ahead on today's 700 Club.
Well, coming up, first a woman loses her job, then two weeks later her husband loses his, too.
All of a sudden, they said, “We’re closing the office down. Tomorrow we’re leaving.” So there I was without a job. Fear sets in.
At the time, I was shocked.
We’ll show you how this couple paid their bills with just an unemployment check. Stay with us.
Still ahead . . . .
The gun went off.
A young woman who shot herself.
I felt myself, my soul, leave my body.
Where she went first.
Everybody was screaming in pain.
Where she went next.
It was beyond peaceful and gorgeous and magnificent.
And how she came back home.
The bullet had missed my heart by less than a fourth of an inch.
Have you ever heard the expression “good as gold?” Well, gold is on everybody’s minds these days, and rightfully so, having risen in value dramatically since 2001. For years now, I’ve been singing the praises of one of the most recognized and trusted names in gold, Swiss America. They believe, like I do, that people need to know what’s good about gold. Gold has withstood the test of time, and so has Swiss America. Now is the time to rediscover gold, because gold offers diversification, profit, potential, and best of all, privacy. Call or visit online now and ask for the Pat Boone DVD, and they will gladly rush out a copy along with other information about getting gold into your nest egg. If you’re going to buy gold, buy it from a company you can trust. I did. And I’ve been a satisfied Swiss America customer for over 15 years. They are as good as gold. Call or log on right now.

When Bob and Julie Roth lost their jobs, they went from two paychecks to none. And yet, the whole time they were out of work, they never fell behind on their bills.
In 1988, Julie Roth was laid-off from her job in Dallas when her company folded. Two weeks later, her husband Bob came home with the same news.
All of a sudden they say, “We’re closing the office down. Tomorrow we're leaving.” So there I was without a job. Fear sets in.
I knew that something good would come out of it, but at the time I was shocked.
You wonder, “Why me?” and then a little bit of anger sets in. And you think, “Well, what do I do now?” So I turned to the Lord. I said, “Lord, what do you want me to do?”
Bob and Julie say God directed them to give 10 percent of their unemployment check to their church.
Most people would say, “No, don’t do that. Hunker down.” But we continued to tithe during that whole time. Somehow we made all those payments, and to this day I don’t know how it happened.
The couple needed direction, so they used this time to seek God.
How can I discover my God-given talents and go pursue a career based upon those talents? The Holy Spirit will give you a revelation of what that is. I realized that I was supposed to be in technology.
Within months, Bob was hired by a major airline. Julie landed a job with another company, with a better position and higher pay.
It was just a God-thing the way that whole thing worked out. Our unemployment turned out to be a blessing.
I looked for a very specific position, because I knew what I had to do. And they called me up and said, “Here it is.”
I don’t know how I was selected to go to San Francisco to open up a whole new area for the telecommunications company I was in. But I was one of many candidates.
Only God can move men’s hearts on your behalf; I mean if you are really following the Lord, God will have His favor on your life. And the Lord just moved on our behalf because were continuing to give.
Over 20 years later, Bob still works in the airline industry, while Julie has a successful career in marketing and sales. The couple still tithe faithfully to their church, but they also give to ministries like CBN. They first became CBN partners in 1983.
Jesus said, “Give, and it will be given to you.” And I firmly believe that. I stand upon that promise. I think giving is not only monetary, but giving involves your time and also your talents.
God’s principles are so different from the world’s principles that when you give it away He gives it back. And He owns everything anyway. So we’re just giving back something that’s already His.
I think the Lord speaks to your heart, saying, “Give to this one or give to that one.” CBN is one place where the Lord told me to give to. We’ve been a part of CBN for over 20 years now.
CBN gives us a chance to be something bigger than what we are able to do by ourselves, because every time there is a catastrophe, the first thing I want to do is get on a plane and go. I work full time, and I can’t go. But I do know that Operation Blessing is going to be there. Anything that you need, do for somebody else. Everything that you give is going to come back. God is so merciful, and He cares so much. But He cares about all of us. We’re a family. And when we take care of each other, He’s going to take care of us.
He does take care of us. What is He looking for? He’s looking for us to be obedient and for us to trust Him. One of the ways you can trust Him is with your money. Here’s the promise. It’s from Psalm 5:12, “For surely, O Lord, you bless the righteous. You surround them with your favor as with a shield.” Bob and Julie learned that. They were surrounded with God’s favor, and He turned the situation around for them. They were surrounded with His favor. They were blessed. Now, what’s the key? Well, you find it right in that verse. He blesses the righteous. And one of the interpretations for righteous in the Old Testament, the rabbis say acts of charity. When you do acts of charity, when you give to the poor, when you take care of others, then God surrounds you with His favor. He blesses you. He provides for you. He provides a way out of every difficulty. And that can be yours. Just remember the key, charity. Remember. If you want blessings from God, bless others, and He will be there for you. Terry.
We don’t hear about tuberculosis much here in the United States anymore, but every year more than two million people in India develop it. One farmer suffered with tuberculosis for 12 years, until he visited a medical camp run by Operation Blessing.
Amar and his family are farmers in the mountains of northwest India. But after Amar contracted tuberculosis, he was too weak to work.
I had to drop out of school, because my dad was sick and we had no money.
I needed my husband’s help to run our family, and my daughter needed the love of her father.
For 12 years, Amar tried everything to get well, including black magic and prayers to Hindu gods.
I sacrificed countless goats and chickens. I also performed many rituals, but I was left with no money, no peace, and no healing.
His only hope was an Operation Blessing medical camp, but it was 10 miles away. So he and his wife made the long trek to the clinic.
I had to stop every 10 minutes, so I could catch my breath. We finally reached there after walking for six hours.
The doctors examined Amar and gave him the antibiotics and antibacterial medicines he needed to cure his tuberculosis. And that’s when Amar and his wife heard the Gospel for the very first time.
It surprised us that there were no rituals or sacrifice of goats and chickens.
So when Amar got home, he not only took his medicines, he also started reading the Bible and going to church. That’s when he noticed some major changes.
Fifteen days after going to the medical camp, I was walking without my stick. This made me believe that Jesus Christ really does listen and answer prayers.
Amar and his family gave their lives to Christ.
My wife and I knew we would face opposition and problems in our village if we gave up our religion, but we decided to believe in Jesus and face the consequences.
Amar returned to farming and can now support his family. He was also able to send his daughter back to school.
I am at the top of my class. After I graduate, I want to become a teacher.
After 12 years of suffering, the Lord Jesus opened up all the doors for us. He gave us peace. Today, we are indeed very happy.
I love that my dad can now play with me, walk with me, sing with me, and read stories from the Bible to me.
I want to thank Jesus Christ, because He healed me. I also want to thank Operation Blessing for the medical camp. This was truly God’s plan, to have you come from so far away to reach out to me.
Reaching out is what we do. And you make that possible. You reach out with us to the rest of the world, not just with humanitarian aid, but particularly with the love of Jesus Christ.
And you can see in this little family the freedom and the joy that that’s brought into their lives. When you know the truth, it will set you free. And we see that happening. That’s why we ask you to help us help others, help us help more than we’re helping by joining the 700 Club. If you’re not a 700 Club member, you can do that today by calling the number that’s on your screen. It’s 1-800-759-0700. Just call and say, “I want to join the 700 Club.” And when you do, will you say, “I’d like to give through Pledge Express?” That’s just electronic monthly giving. It means your bank does all the work. You don’t have any of the hassle. And we don’t either. And that saves us money on our end, so we can put even more of your gift right into the lives of people like that family you just saw.
So please call now. When you use Pledge Express, our way of saying thank you is to send you “Power for Life” teachings each month. We know these will be a blessing to you and will help you grow in your own faith. Gordon.

When Tamara LaRoux stepped into her mother’s bedroom, she thought her young life was about to end. Instead, the 16-year-old was about to begin a journey, one that would take her to Hell, to Heaven, and then back to earth.
I was convinced there was no way to live a completely happy life. And if I couldn’t live happy, I didn’t want to live at all. It began with a divorce, a broken home. And I believe that through that, my mentality began to form and began develop a sense of rejection, because I didn’t understand. I was a small child, and I didn’t understand adult things. And so I felt the break-up was all about me. That sense of rejection just really grew. I began to perceive myself as a burden to other people. And so I would take little bitty comments that were relatively insignificant. I would make it into a really big deal. Those little seeds in my life, I began meditating on over and over. And as I grew, the rejection began to grow. “What is wrong with me?” And so I believed the only answer for me was to end my life. I walked into my mother’s room thinking I don’t want anyone to see me, because I’m so determined to end my life, to end the void, to end the suffering, to end the loneliness, that nothing was going to stop me. I began crying out, and I began screaming out to God, “God, forgive me.” And the gun went off. My lungs began to fill up with blood. My ears, I began to become deaf, very slowly, faintly become deaf. My eyes became blind. My eyes were open, and I became blinded. And I knew that death was gripping my soul. And then all of a sudden, I felt myself, my soul leave my body. And I instantly began falling and falling. And at that moment I knew I was no longer in control of my destiny. And I ended up in a place that was complete torment. And my body was burning. I no longer was lonely. I was no longer depressed. I became depression. I became loneliness. I became a tormented being of fear. And as I began looking out, and I saw all of these other people, and everybody was screaming in pain. The mutual thing that everyone shared there was their desire to scream out to everybody on earth, “Do not come here. Acknowledge that life is about Jesus Christ.” Eternity is real. And Hell is real, and Heaven is real. And how you live your life will determine where you go. And everybody cried out that their loved ones would hear the truth. I saw the hand of God literally come down. And at that moment, I knew that He was coming for me. And His hand picked me up, and instantaneously I was no longer a being of tormented sin. I now was a being, being cleansed. And God took me over the Heavens. It was beyond peaceful and gorgeous and magnificent. However, I was not allowed to stay, and I was certainly not allowed to see anything specific. But I was able to feel His presence in His entirety. I was able to feel perfect serenity. I was able to feel joy for the first time, complete, whole joy. And this hand just began to bring me back into the universe. And I saw myself coming back to my home. And I went through the ceiling and the hand just went and placed me gently back into my physical body. And He went up, and I opened my eyes, and I saw Him go up. And instantly, I knew at that moment God loved me. I called out on His name, and I asked for Him to forgive me. And He did. And at that moment, I was given a spiritual strength that I had never known. I was given joy that I had never had. I was given peace that I knew would take me through what I was about to face. The bullet had missed my heart by less than a fourth of an inch, just by millimeters there. And they explained that the pressure of a .38 caliber gun should have exploded my heart, and they didn’t understand that there was nothing wrong with me. It broke a few of my ribs, and that was all. When you leave this earth, you are going to do one of two things. Either you are going to be transformed into a being of sin and torment or you are going to be transformed into a being of light and love and joy. And it is a personal responsibility who and what you are going to be transformed into. And I had to learn how to take on the responsibility and quit blaming others for my mental and emotional condition. Now I am full of joy. Now I am full of peace. I am who God says I am. I am loved. I am adopted into the Kingdom of Christ. God sees me, that I am His child, and all that He has is mine. I just have to be able to receive it. And I have to be able to recognize and replace my junk with His greatness. As long as I stand on the promises of God and I allow His presence in my life, I can conquer anything. And I can go through my problems with peaceful sleep. I can go with Him with joy and strength beyond all comprehension. And I can come out on the other side full of hope and a victory in Christ.
You can have that same hope. You can have that same victory. You don’t have to wonder where you’re going after you die. You can know it now. You can taste it now. The apostle Paul talked about our earnest deposit, how God wants to assure us, assure His children, that they will be with Him. Jesus said, “Surely I go to prepare a place for you. If I wasn’t, I’d tell you. But I’m going. Surely I’m going to prepare a place,” so that we can be with Him. When you look at the Bible and you look at the descriptions of Hell, the number of times it’s mentioned, do you know who talked about it the most? Jesus. He mentions it more than any other person in the Bible. He talks about it the most. Now, why did He do that? Well, number one, as a warning to you and me that there is a choice to make. And then number two, what compelled Him to go to the cross, what compelled Him to go through all of that to save us. There was something that we all needed to be saved from, an eternity without Him, an eternity where our own sin would entrap us, where the very thing that we were trying to get free from would be the one thing that would entrap us for all eternity. And Jesus said, “I want to pay that price. Father, not My will, but your will be done. I’ll pay that price.” Hell is real. Don’t for a minute think it’s not or it’s some fairytale. It’s real. Tamara went there. She had a taste of it. And she came back to tell us. And Jesus told us about it. And He didn’t want us to go there, and He made a way, that all we had to do was believe in Him and ask Him for forgiveness. And He’ll do that. He’ll save you. He’ll prevent you from ever even having to taste it. And He wants you to be with Him for all eternity. That’s how much He loves you. He was willing to pay the price for everything you’ve done wrong, so that you could be with Him. And He’s telling you right now if you’re the only one to believe, He still would have come just for you. Now, the choice is yours. God doesn’t force Himself on anyone. But He asks you, “Will you have Me?” And He says to you right now, “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hear My voice and open the door, I’ll come in.” So for you right now, don’t change this channel. Don’t turn away, but make the decision now, and say yes. And say, “Jesus, will you come in?” He offers it free. All you have to do is ask for it. If this is for you, if you’re serious, if this is what you want to do, just bow your head with me. Pray a very simple prayer, and let Jesus do all the rest. What He’s done for others, He’ll do for you. Pray with me. “Lord Jesus.” Say it out loud. “Lord Jesus, I ask right now that you come into my heart. I open the door and ask that you come in. I ask that you cleanse me, that you forgive me of all the things I’ve done wrong. And Jesus, I want to follow you all the days of my life. I hear you’ve prepared a place for me. I want to be in that place. I want to be where you want me to be. Hear my prayer. Come into my heart. Make me new again, for I ask it in Jesus’ name. Amen.” The Bible says that if you’ll believe in your heart, then confess with your mouth, you shall be saved.
What I want you to do is confess with your mouth. And we made it easy for you. All you’ve got to do is make a toll free call: 1-800-759-0700. Just say, “I prayed with that guy on TV. I asked Jesus to come into my heart.” When you call, we’ve got a booklet for you. Many people say, “Well, what’s the next step? What do I do next?”
We made that easy for you, too. The packet is free. It’s called “A New Day.” In there is a CD teaching, what are the next steps for a Christian. How do you live the Christian life? What is this about? How do we do this? We also encourage you to get a copy of the Bible. Start with the Gospel of John. That’s the Gospel of love. And in there, you’ll learn everything you need to know about Christianity. We also encourage you to join a local church, go through water baptism. It’s all part of the process of becoming a disciple. But it starts with that phone call: 1-800-759-0700. Terry, over to you.
Well, still ahead, a man falls 45 feet and lands on his head.

My name is Roger Stump, and I’m a cancer survivor. The surgeon said it's inoperable. “It's already in your liver.” My wife, Brenda, sat there and cried; and I'm thinking, “I can't die right now. I'm only 52 years old.” I was so distraught. I've heard Cancer Treatment Centers of America have experience with pancreatic cancers. It was like night and day. The hospital just breeds an environment of hope. You get a CT scan, and the next morning the results were read to you. We’d go up there; I just knew it was going to be a good result. You could just see the joy on Dr. Granik’s face.

A Little League park in Joplin, Missouri, is almost ready to be used again, thanks to Operation Blessing. Sonny Jim Park was wiped out by the Joplin tornado. Operation Blessing teamed with the Home Depot to renovate the park. Teams fixed fences, remove broken poles, and reconstructed an entire outfield wall. The goal is to have the park finished by the Little League closing ceremonies later this month. You can find out more by going to OB.org. We'll be right back with more of the club.
This is the information retailers don't want you to know, especially now. Well, there’s no reason you need to spend hours in the kitchen making dinner. I’ve got an easy recipe for you that you can just make in minutes. And Kristi is going to help me show you how.
We want to show you Sunday suppers. We want to encourage you to have family meals together. The Sunday supper was such a great tradition. I know growing up in my family we were always expected, supper, Sunday, Mom is going to cook. It’s going to be awesome. It’s going to be a great meal. We always looked forward to it.
You still cook Sundays?
Yes, I do, actually. When I cook, I cook on the weekends. I take that load off Kathryn, and I like it.
Well, I’m just still waiting for my invite. Maybe that will just save me from not having to cook. Hello. Knock on your door.
Do you cook on Sundays?
I make pancakes in the morning before church.
You make pancakes.
And sausage.
And what about . . . .
The dinner?
Yes.
Uh-uh.
Uh-uh?
But my mom always did. Growing up with five kids, we always had a big, huge Sunday . . . .
You always had a big supper, right?
Absolutely. Maybe I need to get back to that.
And everybody gathered around, and you would talk, and it would be great, lively.
It was lovely.
And you would look forward to it, because mom is a good cook.
That’s true.
Right?
Yes.
So I want to show you some recipes, how you can appear like you’re a good cook, even if you don’t know how to cook . . . .
I like that. “Appear.”
. . . . because these are easy recipes. And if I can do them, you can do them.
And I can do them, too.
Right.
Which is a huge thing.
What’s your favorite recipe?
Ooh, lasagna.
Lasagna.
I’ve got three. You ready? One, lasagna. Two, macaroni and cheese. Three, banana pudding.
All right.
It’s really good.
If you can make lasagna, you can make this dish.
Fabulous.
I’ll actually say if you can mac and cheese on your own, not the boxed kind, but you can make mac and cheese on your own, you can do this, just because it’s that easy. Today we’re going to be cooking salmon in puff pastry. It’s just a great way to cook fish, because it keeps it moist, and it’s a quick cook so you’re not overcooking it. And it comes out, and it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser. But the best part of it is it’s really easy to do. Okay.
Quick question. Salmon, farm fresh or wild? Which one do you prefer?
I always go wild, because it tastes better.
Okay.
So if you can find the wild—sometimes it’s hard to find the wild. If you can find the wild, get it, because it will taste better.
Wild is always good. Okay, let’s rock it.
Yes. Okay, you ready to do it?
Yes!
Can you roll out pastry?
Absolutely.
Okay. First thing we’re going to do is you’ve got to flour your board. You just do this. This is a great dish for kids, too, because they can do stuff like that.
So do I need to flour more?
No, you’re good. You’re good. You’re good. But it’s good to have it on your hands.
I know. Okay. I did that intentionally.
Well, no, because you’re dealing with puff pastry. You want to do the other one while I’m doing this one?
Absolutely.
Here, I’ll get it out for you.
Okay, good. I’m so excited. I actually get to cook, and I’m learning.
You’re learning.
Look, mine’s coming off easier than yours. Maybe it’s my technique.
I may have to roll this out all wedged together.
Well, see, that’s good, because it shows us what we can do if people like me are trying this.
Because mine will not unravel, which is okay.
Yes.
I always unroll mine before it thaws. The other thing about puff pastry is you’ve got to keep it cold. All right. You want to try that.
Please, because I don’t think that my puff . . . .
Just stop doing what you’re doing. All right. Rolling, you start in the middle. And you go one way, then the other way, then you turn it.
Oh, okay. Good to know.
And you’ve got to keep a floured surface, otherwise it will stick. And if you keep it floured, it comes off easy like that.
Okay.
Okay? Now, we’ve already pre-made some wonderful things. This is rice with just turmeric. What you’re looking for is to create a color layer. The other thing that the rice does is if it’s dry enough when you put it down like this, any moisture that comes out of the spinach or the fish will get absorbed by the rice and will keep the puff pastry from absorbing it. Okay. You’re good. You’re good. That’s good.
Do I get the fish?
Get the fish.
Okay.
Put a piece down on top of that.
Like that?
Yes.
All right.
Then you’ve got to make sure you line up everything. You want the seams to be right.
Why is that significant?
Because otherwise it will leak and allow moisture to go all the way down, and you want to keep everything sealed up, because you’re going to create a seal all around the fish. And what that does is seal in the moisture, but in that process, you can’t have the puff pastry get wet. Okay.
Spinach.
It’s already prepared.
And it’s very drained, I noticed.
It’s drained. It’s dry. You’re trying to keep it dry. And it’s cooked with shallots. All right.
Cool. Yes.
You want to put that on top?
Absolutely.
And you just put a layer of spinach on top. And what that does is when you’re going to cut into it; it’s going to create a nice color layer. So you’re going to have yellow from the turmeric, the salmon color from the salmon, and then you’re going to have the green. Now, this is glue. It’s just a beaten egg with some water.
Oh, okay.
And what this will do is help glue the two pieces of puff pastry together.
I think I made mine too small. So what do I do?
Just pull it out.
All right. Do I cut the outside?
No. We’re going to do all that in a minute.
Okay. I’m sure that when you do this at home, it’s probably much neater than how I did this.
Well, what you’re trying to do is get your game on.
Get my game on?
Yes. You’re going to get all artistic.
Oh, I’m all about the game. Come on, Gordon. Let’s rock the game.
Yes. We’re going to make up here. Now, we’re going to put some of the pieces on this side. And what you do is in a rough fish shape, you’re going to create fins.
Okay, now I want to see this. Come on Gordon; let me see your talents. Am I putting the pressure on you?
Yes, you are. But I’m ready.
I was about to say, you don’t mind.
I’m ready.
You can handle the pressure.
And what you’re trying to do is just cut off all this excess and leave a fin on the bottom.
Cool.
And you just need enough here so that you’ve got the seal in place. But you want to keep these pieces out here. We’re going to use these for more decoration.
Ooh.
Okay, while I’m making some fins . . . .
Yes. What do I do?
You are going to seal it.
I do this with pie. I know what that means.
You take the fork like this on the tail, and you’re trying to create spines like in a fish tail. And then just crimp all the way around. All right?
Cool. Are we going to switch sides?
Sure.
Okay. This reminds me that when I was little, my mom and I would be in the kitchen, and we would make pies together.
This is great to do with kids, because you can get them involved in the decoration process. And it’s really cool stuff.
It’s fun, and it’s easy. That’s what’s tripping me out. It’s much easier. I actually might have to make this one, too. All right. Now what? Do I like do little eyes and stuff? A mouth?
No. What you do is you roll it up. And that’s your little mouth.
Can we do a happy face?
And you glue on . . . .
Oh, the glue.
. . . . an eye.
Do you need this?
Yes.
All right.
And dab that.
A little dab will do you.
Glue on an eye. Then you take that fork and you make this into a fin.
Not that I’m being hostile, but your fish has one eye and one smile. Oh, because it’s to the side.
The side.
Oh, it took me a moment. I’m a little slow.
And then your fin on top. And now egg wash all around.
Oh, this is really cool. And so the egg wash gives it, what, the shine?
Yes. When you bake it, you only have to cook it like at 20 minutes or so. You’re just waiting for it to get golden brown. You can start it off at a higher temperature and then cut it down, or you can just bake it for the same temperature. You lift this off with spatulas, and you put it on a baking sheet. Easy?
Easy-peasy.
Was that easy?
Seriously, seriously, as God as my witness, I’m like, that’s workable.
Now, here is how it turns out when you’re done. You have something like this, and it’s just golden brown. And boy, that looks good.
It’s just beautiful. Okay, so the question is, when are we going to eat?
We’re going to eat right now. Are you ready to taste it?
Yes. I’m like where’s the plate?
You cut it with a serrated knife, because you don’t want to mess up the puff pastry.
That’s beautiful.
And you take the fin. And unless people really want to eat the puff pastry, you can do that, but I just sort of put that to the side. And this will be your first cut into the fish.
Oh, what a brilliant idea. And you know what? You know how you have dinner parties and you’re always trying to figure out what to make? Well, that, it kind of encompasses all. You have the vegetables. You have the protein. You’ve got the carbs. You’ve got it all.
You take it out with a . . . . .
Look how beautiful that is.
And then you turn it over, and you have all those wonderful colors, and the fish. And then there is a beautiful cream sauce with dill.
Man.
You just reduce the cream, add some diced tomato. And you can just dress it with this.
Can I just say, Gordon, that food makes me happy. And just working on this segment just makes me really happy. I’d be happier if I was eating it right now, but I’m still happy.
Well, you get to be happier. And here.
Okay, are you going to taste it, too?
Yes, of course.
Listen, you’ve got pastry . . . .
The salmon, the spinach.
. . . . and salmon and spinach.
You’ve got to get some of that . . . .
The sauce?
. . . . sauce.
Oops, I lost the fish. It’s not a pretty . . . . .
That’s a beautiful eating.
Oh, my Lord. And the sauce hits it. Doesn’t the sauce rock it, too?
The sauce has got a little dill, a little tomato. But it’s just cream reduced. And you get all that—oh, you’re going for it, huh?
Yes. Keep on talking. You keep on talking.
We’ve got some other things to go with it. I’ve got a very nice salad with strawberries and walnuts and just a nice green salad with a vinaigrette. And then we’ve got this beautiful dessert . . . . .
Oh, my Lord, that is divine.
. . . . which is a lovely peach melba. And it’s remarkably easy to make. You ready to go to dessert?
Yes, I was listening to you, but I just kept thinking, “Dang, this is really good.” It’s like my fourth bite.
What you do is you’ve got ice cream on the bottom. You take fresh peaches, and you do them in a sugar syrup with vanilla and then a raspberry sauce on top and whipped cream, a little piece of mint. And this is good.
Do you see the happiness, Gordon?
I see happiness.
I’m very happy.
You ready?
I’m making that. I am making that. Woo-hoo! Okay. Seriously, this is so good.
I think you’re into it.
You know, like some of the shows they talk about they wish they had smell-o-vision? I wish we had taste-o-vision. All the different flavors, from the salmon to the spinach to the rice. And what’s in that rice again?
Just turmeric.
Whatever. The turmeric is . . . .
And some chicken stock. It’s really easy.
Seriously. We can just all go home right now. I will take this. My day is complete.
Okay.
I have nothing to say. Keep on going, Gordon.
You have nothing to say.
No, keep on eating. I mean, I’ll eat, you talk.
All of these recipes are available to you on CBN.com. All you have to do is log on and you can find a download for all of these.
And again, this is remarkably easy to do, but it comes out looking beautiful. It’s very impressive. And kids even like this. If you’re trying to get your kids to eat fish, this will be a good way to introduce them to a fish dish. So anyway, cook this Sunday. Have a feast of love. Have your own love feast at home. And we are going to have . . . .
I’m having a love feast right now, Gordon.
We’re going to have some more peach melba, and we’ll be back with more of The 700 Club, right after this.
He came flying off just like a rag doll.
Coming up later:
I thought for sure he would be dead.
And I really did feel like I was dying.
How this man survived a 45-foot fall . . . .
That’s usually a fatal blow.
. . . . without breaking a bone.
There’s no reason why I should be alive today.

Well, Paul Jensen was the ultimate go getter. He took his competitive work ethic into everything he did, even into his downtime activities. And that’s how he ended up at the bottom of a cliff on what his doctors say should have been the last day of his life.
Paul Jensen was a driven man.
I’ve been vice president at Sony Pictures. I’ve been president of two other companies at a very young age. My competitiveness and my desire for acceptance that I had in college just kind of transferred into my work life. My family, quite frankly, was second.
He was a bulldozer from the very first moment I met him. If he wanted something, he would do it. It was all about making the most of life, getting everything done.
I was trying to chase after things I could acquire. None of it would ever give me peace. I knew it was empty, and it was fragile, and all it was going to take was something very little to show truly what that road really was.
That something came while on vacation with his family in Joshua Tree, California. Paul and his son Jake climbed high above the rest of the group.
We ended up taking this kind of easier path bouldering over some boulders to get to this point about 75 feet off the desert floor.
Below, his brother in law was overcome with a strange feeling of fear and anxiety.
Todd started telling us that he wasn’t feeling good, that he just had this awful feeling. He couldn’t really explain it. “I feel like something really bad is going to happen.” Right then, we heard Paul yell, “Ow!”
And at that instant, I felt my feet ripped out from under me, and the next thing I know I’m looking at the ground about four feet in the air. My head and my feet are at the exact same level off the ground. And I was paused there. It was like I was swept up and held there for a second. I remember thinking, “How did I get here?” And at that instant, I dropped.
Paul’s leg crashed against the rocks. He balanced himself against the rock wall to prevent falling any farther.
And I remember seeing the world just spin, just spin. And then that was it. That was the last thing I remember.
Tiffany looked up in horror as Paul’s body flew off the ledge above her.
He came flying off, just like a rag doll being thrown off. He was kind of doing a rag doll cartwheel. I thought for sure he would be dead when I got there. There’s no way you could survive that. There’s just no way he could have survived.
Tiffany climbed to his seemingly lifeless body and rolled him over.
He had this big hole in his skin. I could see his skull. And his face was all scraped up and bleeding. And when he did finally open his eyes, I knew at least he’s alive right now.
I felt like my life was slipping away on that rock. I really did. I felt like my life was draining, and then it would kind of come back. And I really did feel like I was dying, but I had complete and absolute peace on that rock.
A group was just forming at the bottom of the rock, and they just started praying. It was just this large group of people that had gathered and just were praying.
Paul had survived a 45-foot fall, landing on his head. But the first responders didn’t give Tiffany much hope for his recovery.
He’s not out of the woods yet. He still could suffer all kinds of brain damage. He most likely has so many internal injuries that they don’t know that he’s going to survive. So even though you feel hopeful now, there really is not a great chance of his survival.
He was airlifted to a hospital where a team of doctors waited for him.
They were shocked and amazed that I was alive. They CAT scanned my entire body. They x-rayed my entire body.
And more and more doctors would come in and leave, and then come read his chart and leave. But they weren’t saying anything to us.
Now if you were free falling 45 feet and landed on your head, falling from that significant of a height usually carries a very high injury severity score, multi-trauma head injury, spinal cord injury. That’s usually a fatal, fatal blow.
And so I truly was thinking this obviously isn’t going to be good.
I got concerned, and I finally said, “Hey, hey, what’s going on?” And the doctor looked at me and goes, “What, haven’t you heard?” And I said, “No.” He said, “They’re calling you ‘miracle boy’ around here.” I said, “Why?” Because no one had told me. And he said, “Well, we’ve looked at all your tests, and you have nothing wrong with you. You have no broken bones. You have no internal injuries. Your skull is not fractured. In fact, your brain waves don’t even represent trauma.” And at that point I realized that it was a miracle. It truly was a miracle, because I should have been dead. There’s no reason why I should be alive today.
Tiffany received a phone call from her mother that gave some perspective on the events of the day.
So she said to me, “I don’t know what happened, but I started praying, and I really felt like Satan said, ‘I’m going to take Paul’s life.’ And God said, ‘No, you’re not.’”
It was a spiritual battle that day that I feel that’s the only thing that’s explainable how I could be ripped off that rock and more importantly launched off that cliff.
Three hours after entering the hospital, Paul was released with nothing more than a concussion. He believes it was through the prayers of his family and those on the rocks at Joshua Tree that God saved his life and gave him a new start.
Paul is a 180-degree different person than he was. He is no longer that bulldozer. There is a big difference in Paul and where he puts family first, for the first time ever. I specifically say thank you every day. God allowed me to still have a husband and my kids to still have a dad that’s around and healthy.
I’m a better father. I’m a better husband. I’m a better man. I’m a better person. I owe everything to God. Therefore, my life is His life to use as He wants it to be used.
Boy, when you have a near fatal experience, it puts everything in perspective, doesn’t it? Life is a gift. Life is a gift. I know that there are many of you who probably have prayer needs today. You would like God to respond to something in your life. And we want to encourage your faith before we pray with you and for you. This is Lisa, who lives in Seattle, Washington. She had terrible problems swallowing. She said when she ate it felt like she was swallowing glass. Then one day, she was watching this program, and Gordon, you gave a word of knowledge about pain and burning in the throat and the esophagus. You said God was taking away the discomfort and healing the condition. Well, Lisa claimed that word and she has never had a problem since then.
Here is a great one from Arizona. Juanita was watching the program. She’s a hairdresser. She developed a sharp pain in her right wrist, and it went up her arm to her shoulder. And the doctor said, “You’ve got carpal tunnel syndrome. The next day, the very next day, she was watching The 700 Club, and as the show began, she prayed, “Lord, if this is real, I want a healing.” A little later in the program Terry had a word of knowledge about someone with numbness and shooting pain in the right arm. Juanita cried out, “I claim my healing.” The pain lessened, and by the next morning, she was completely healed.
Hallelujah.
Now, if this is real, Lord, I want my healing. If this is real, Jesus, if you’re real, you’re out there, if you can hear me now. He is real. He’ll come for you. He’ll answer your prayer. All you have to do is look to Him. He is the author and the finisher of your faith. Don’t for a minute think it comes from you trying to be holy or how hard you pray or anything like that. Just be like a little child. “Daddy, if you can hear me, could you answer me now?” And that kind of faith, the faith of a little child, is all you need. Now, it’s my favorite time of the program where we get to pray for you. What I’m going to ask you to do is in an act of faith, if you need a healing; just put your hand on that area of the body that needs it. And then we’re going to agree. The Bible says if two or more agree touching anything, it shall be done. So we’re going to agree with you as you reach out in faith and touch that area that needs healing. If it’s in your throat, lay hands on your throat. If it’s in your back, lay hands on your back. If there are people around you, could you ask them, “Could you please come pray for me?” And let’s just believe God. Let’s pray. “Lord, as people are laying hands on that area that needs healing, we come into agreement with them now. And together we say out loud this body, be healed now, in Jesus’ name. And be restored and made whole. We command cancer to leave now. We command pain to leave now. We command numbness to leave now. And we just speak health and wholeness to their entire being, in Jesus’ name. Be healed.” There’s a man, you’re crying out for relief from prostate cancer. And it’s just debilitating. It really hurts your quality of life, and you’re in pain right now. That pain is leaving you now, in Jesus’ name. You’re healed now. Go back to the doctor and be retested. God has done an amazing miracle for you. There’s someone else, you’ve got nodules in your lungs and in your throat. And God is just taking them all away now, in Jesus’ name. Be healed. All of them are shrinking and leaving, and it’s just a tremendous miracle happening for you. Terry.
There’s somebody else, you have a foot problem. It’s with the bones in your toes. God is healing that for you. You’re not going to have that pain anymore.
Amen. And amen. If you’ve been touched by God, we want to share in your good report.
