We're waiting. Go, go, go. Meet the Duggar family. I have to go to all the bathrooms and get the laundry. All 21 of them. I never dreamed in a million years that all this would happen. Go behind the scenes with the stars of 19 Kids and Counting. It's been a lot of hard work, but much joy, much, much joy. Well, welcome to The 700 Club. As we said at the death of Osama bin Laden, there is bound to be retaliation. And we understand Osama bin Laden never gave up on his plan to attack America. He was still the driving force behind recent al Qaeda terrorist plot. And apparently, he wanted to kill a huge number of Americans in one attack, so that the United States would leave the Arab world. Mark Martin has the story. Investigators say Osama bin Laden's writings show he wanted the next attack in the US to be even bigger than 9/11. His targets across the country: Los Angeles and smaller cities not expecting an attack. It makes it more difficult for us to track because we're looking at more symbolic locations. I think the reality is we do have a real threat and need to pay attention. The information on potential al Qaeda targets comes from handwritten journals and computer files taken during the Navy SEALs' raid on bin Laden's Pakistani compound. The fact that bin Laden wanted to kill thousands of Americans doesn't surprise me at all. Officials say the notes also describe potential plots like attacking the US rail system. Meanwhile, New York City police have arrested two men they say were planning a terrorist attack. Investigators say the plot predates the death of bin Laden. Police say the men were reportedly trying to buy weapons with the idea of staging an attack in Manhattan. Law enforcement officers describe the plan as a homegrown plot along the lines of the plots to bomb Kennedy airport, the Bronx synagogues, and the crowds in Times Square. The two men may be of North African descent and are expected to be charged under New York State's terrorism law. The NYPD has warned of just such a danger since the killing of bin Laden. We've kept pretty much in place the extra security that we put in motion last week. And we'll do that. We'll keep it in place and make judgments on a day to day basis. Mark Martin, CBN News. Well, Osama bin Laden was a sicko. He is psychologically imbalanced. He was a killer, a murderer. And what we did was a judicial execution of him, and he should have been executed. And he was kind of wanted dead or alive, and we got him dead. Well, Lee Webb has the rest of our top stories from the CBN Newsroom. Lee. Pat, the US could return to the gold standard within five years. Magazine publisher and former Republican presidential candidate Steve Forbes makes that prediction. He tells the conservative newspaper Human Events that a gold standard would stabilize the dollar and restore confidence in US Treasury bonds among foreign investors. He also says it would discourage politicians from reckless federal spending. Forbes believes the idea could gain support because people know something is wrong with the dollar. Pat, do you agree with him? I do in limited measure. But you're not going to get this through politically. It's a straitjacket on political opportunity and the spenders in Congress won't go along with it. It's just one of those things. It has a lot of merit theoretically, but that doesn't mean—one more time, we have to understand what a gold standard is. It doesn't mean that you've got to have physical gold backing every dollar you put out. But it does mean that your dollar would be redeemable in gold, and then there would be gold certificates, et cetera. There isn't enough gold in the world to meet all the financial demands of commerce. But Steve Forbes has been going on this particular concept for years. This isn't anything new. He just had an interview with Human Events to say let's do it. I love his column in Forbes magazine. I think it's the most important part of that magazine, and he has some extremely cogent analysis of what's going on in our world. Lee. A federal judge refuses to block a new Indiana law that cuts public funding for Planned Parenthood. The organization wanted to keep funds flowing while it challenges the law signed this week by Republican Governor Mitch Daniels. The judge's decision allows the cuts to take effect. They are part of a new law that also bans abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy, unless there's a substantial threat to the mother's life or health. That law will go into effect July 1st, Pat. Planned Parenthood has a budget of one billion dollars, 330 million or so is from the federal government. And it somehow thinks it's got a right to dip into the treasuries of various states to get funding. This is nonsense. It's a private organization and it has no right whatsoever to my tax dollars or the tax dollars of Indiana citizens. So the fact that they would bring this lawsuit is outrageous. And the fact that the judge ruled against them is what you would expect. And we applaud his ruling. Lee. The House Armed Services Committee delays President Obama's new policy that allows homosexuals to serve openly in the military. The committee voted to adopt an amendment introduced by Congressman Duncan Hunter of California. That amendment requires all four service chiefs to certify that the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell will not hurt the ability of troops to fight. Right now, the repeal only requires certification from the president, defense secretary, and joint chief's chairman. Congressman Hunter says the amendment is necessary because those men have no combat experience. A Texas school has a new way to battle childhood obesity: a candid camera. Children at a San Antonio elementary school are part of a two million dollar federally funded program to see if anti-obesity campaigns work. A camera snaps a picture of students' trays before they start eating, and then again when they throw away their leftovers. The calories consumed are counted and recorded. We're going to see if it's healthy or not healthy. They try to get you healthy and have a good shape in your body and stuff. This feedback is going to be provided to parents so that they can help us raise healthier children. Critics say that the calorie cameras go too far, but those behind the scenes of the cameras say they're just looking to make parents more aware. George Orwell would be proud, wouldn't he? Canadian scientists have found drug resistant staph bacteria in bedbugs on three hospital patients. Bedbugs have not been known to spread disease, but five of the bed bugs were analyzed and several were carrying MRSA which can be deadly if it gets through the skin and into the bloodstream. Bedbugs can cause itching, which could make people scratch and become more susceptible to the deadly staph disease. Two of the other bugs had another form of a less dangerous drug-resistant bacteria. The Reverend Billy Graham is in an Asheville, North Carolina hospital being treated now for pneumonia. His doctors say he's resting comfortably and is fully alert. The 92-year-old evangelist entered Mission Hospital Wednesday morning after suffering breathing difficulties the night before. His grandson Jonathan Lotz, son of Ann Graham Lotz, says the family is relying on its faith. He is in good health and good spirits. But certainly for somebody who's 92 years of age with all the health concerns that he has and all the mileage, all the years on him, I would say he's doing pretty well. And we're just keeping an eye on him. Graham rarely appears in public now. Age-related conditions such as macular degeneration and hearing loss have kept him at his home in western North Carolina. Graham's wife, Ruth Bell Graham, died in 2007. Family friend Glenn Wilcox says Graham misses her greatly. I do know he is ready, and he's anxious to go to Heaven someday to be with Ruth. But he said, "I don't need to go right this minute." Testing shows that Graham's heart is normal, and doctors say he's clinically stable. I tell you, it's amazing to me how sharp his mind is and how he can talk intelligent about a lot of things. His physical body is just worn out. Graham was last hospitalized in 2008 after a fall at home. Heather Sells, CBN News. Billy Graham's publicist has issued a statement saying, "Although this condition is not life-threatening, we are sure that Mr. Graham and his family would appreciate your prayers." And, Pat, he has them. He's got my prayers. He's a wonderful man, a dear friend. And he's been an example for Christians for decades now, and we just appreciate him. But Billy thought he was going to go to be with the Lord for the last 20 years or so. He's had all kinds of health problems. He has difficulty hearing. He's had a shunt put in his brain to take off fluid that was there. He has prostate problems. And I don't know what all else he's got, but he's just an amazing man, and he just keeps on going. So God bless you. And pray for this dear man of God that he will continue to be strong. He's been a blessing to us all and we love him. Some years ago I read avidly a magazine called Organic Gardening and Farming, published by Rodale Press. It had to do with natural plant manures; it had to do with little chickens running around scratching in the dirt. It all sounded so wonderful, and I'm going to introduce you to somebody who has put that into practice. Joel Salatin is an outspoken alternative farmer who wants Americans to think about what they eat and where it comes from, and he thinks the Church should be leading the way. Heather Sells shows us how Salatin is putting his beliefs into practice at a farm right here in the state of Virginia. What you'll see on Joel Salatin's Shenandoah farm is simple but revolutionary. Why revolutionary? Partly because it is not this, and industrial food system or animals live in filthy can find spaces eating chemically enhanced feed. Such conditions are typical of American agribusiness today. (Swoope, Virginia): One of Salatin's main missions here at the farm is simply to mimic God's creation. That's why all these cattle here are eating grass and not grain. There's no pesticides here, no fertilizers, no hormones, everything is natural. We move the cows every day to a new spot which allows the grass time to recuperate and go through it's what I call "the teenage growth spurt." On his fresh pastures, Salatin feeds his cows, hens and broiler chicks what he calls a "salad bar." We've got all sorts of goodies here. The diverse grasses provide rich nutrients for the cattle and the other animals to follow. This innovative cycle puts broiler chicks on the land where the cows previously fed. The shortened grass encourages their ingestion of fresh, tender sprouts. Next, the arrival of What Salatin calls the "eggmobile." The hens literally have free range, and along the way they dig through the cow patties to eat protein-rich larvae. Their droppings in turn fertilize the field all over again. Salatin says this model creates healthy animals and ultimately, healthy people. And he believes it's an approach that makes theological sense as well. It is how you respect and honor the least of these that creates a consistent ethical framework on which you honor and respect the greatest of these. Salatin explains his views in seven self-published books. He's a sought-after speaker on college campuses where he promotes local food and tears down anything smacking of corporate production. Not surprisingly, he's viewed with skepticism by many associated with agribusiness. In my opinion, it's not necessary to produce food the way he does it, and for food to be so expensive for people to enjoy those same types of high quality products. But there are those in Washington who think Salatin might just be on to something. We need the U.S. Department of Agriculture to be putting as much money into studying how Joel Salatin does, so they can teach folks, as they do subsidizing the big operations. Around the country. Salatin has earned a loyal following. At the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill recently, his lecture sold out and fans quickly formed a book signing line afterwards. Steve Gisselman is one who stood in line. He's read several of Salatin's books. I've really thought about where does my food come from? Where am I getting it from? Is it sustainable? He's a person out there showing it can be done. He's been doing it for years not really done it another way, and he's been successful in various ways: environmentally, economically and socially. If Salatin's plans succeed he'll help build up a new generation of farmers who subscribe to an all-natural approach. That's why he's so quick to denounce the negative stereotypes. We've got this cultural mentality that to be a farmer you've got to be an idiot. I mean, "after all, any dummy can farm." Every year Salatin turns away hundreds of applicants wanting a shot at his rigorous apprentice and intern programs. Daniel Pike made the cut last year. I always wanted to farm but I didn't think it was a real possibility. That's not something; you know, I need to go get a job in an office, and work with computers and that's the only way to make money or make a living. Now working a rental farm for Salatin, Pike and his young family say, "The model works." There's this alternative farming where people are making money, where it's respecting of the animals, and it goes in line with how God set up all the systems. Salatin says the good news is that many in the faith community are beginning to re-think their attitudes toward food and farming. And its home schooling families he says that are leading the charge. When a person is freed up to examine and then makes an opt-out change as a strategic decision and then finds it soul-satisfying, wow, our kidos are responding, our family is harmonious. Then they say, "Well, what else should we opt out of?" But Salatin still believes the Church has a long way to go to fulfill the Biblical admonition to literally eat and drink for the glory of God. It really disturbs me that the environmental movement has been co-opted by creation-worshippers. The work on this farm has already inspired countless Americans to think more carefully about what they eat. And if Salatin's dreams come true, it will also energize the Church towards greater environmental stewardship and raise up a new generation of passionate farmers. I see it as this is all, it's all to bring glory to God. Reporting in the Shenandoah Valley, Heather Sells, CBN News. Doesn't make you want to be Farmer Brown? It looks so good. But you know, the eggs taste better when they're organic. The chicken, the beef taste better, they're not brought up on steroids. They're not eating artificial stuff. They're out grazing in grass, and the grass is being fertilized by the cows and chickens, and it all works harmoniously. I think that the only problem is, and it is a big problem, we've got over six billion people in the world, and it takes a lot of eggs and a lot of meat, and a lot of this that and the other to feed them; and there is no substitute, I guess, from mass farming. You have to have, for example, those great big combines that they use with corn in the midwest; those things have to have 10, 12, 15,000 acres to operate profitably, and it's big business. But the trouble is they try to push the crops by all kinds of chemical fertilizers. And they tried to push the animals with steroids, and then they're concerned about bacteria and chickens, so they feed them antibiotics. So that stuff comes out to us. The other issue is the cost. Everybody would like to eat natural food, but it's a lot more expensive than the other as well. Well the reason is because it isn't on mass scale. Whether they can get it mass, I don't know, boy, If you can afford it, it sure is good. But a lot of people are cheating on this thing. They say it's organic and natural, when it really isn't. The ones that are—I think here we have something called the Fresh Market and they have them all around other markets like that. Farmers markets are good places, too. Some families would consider two or three kids to be enough, let alone 19, so we sent our Renelle Roberts to the Duggar home to find out how they make it all work. We're waiting. Go, go, go. There she goes. She's off and running. I think my phone is ringing. By now you've probably heard of the Duggar family. Jim Bob, Michelle and their 19 biological children. There's Jana, John David, Jill, Jessa, Jinger, Joseph, . . . . They just began their six season of 19 kids and counting. Their hit reality show airs Monday nights on TLC at 10 PM. It documents their daily life and has captured the birth of their five youngest children. Michelle gave me a tour of the 7000 square foot home that they built themselves. The next room is the pantry. This is where we have all the food. Now this is stocked like an expert stocks a grocery store. Do the children do this? Well the children do now, but dad is the one that taught them, because he used to work at a grocery store. For the record, the Duggars do 40 loads of laundry per week, spend $3000 a month on groceries, and have lived completely debt-free for over 20 years. But, there's no doubt that the first question most people ask them is, "Why have so many children?" We had our first child Josh, four years into marriage, and then I went back on the pill, and then I ended up getting pregnant while I was on the pill. I lost that baby; I had a miscarriage. At that point is when we really begin to evaluate what we were thinking, and with our own hands, with our own lack of knowledge, we had destroyed our own baby, and that was devastating. We got on our knees, and we cried out to God and we said, "Father, forgive us, and give us a love for children like you love children." And when He says that children are a gift, and a blessing, and a reward, we have seen that lived out now for the last 23 years. It's been a lot of hard work, but much joy, much, much joy. Jim Bob manages several commercial properties to provide for the family and never imagined he would be a media sensation. I never dreamed in a million years that all this would happen, but this is a window of time that God's opened us to minister to millions of people. Our prayer is that many people would come to know the Lord and maybe just start a relationship with Christ and start making right choices with their lives. This large household runs like a well-oiled machine. With each member pitching in. I have to go to all the bathrooms and get the laundry. They don't have a bucket, but my mom and dad do. You'd think Michelle has her hands full between making grocery lists, feeding and driving kids to and from appointments. But they're not just her children; they're also her students. That's right, Michelle even homeschools. (To Michelle): Why do you think the country and the world is just so fascinated by your family? It could be a number of things. I really think maybe just the sure curiosity of how a family with 19 children functions, but I also believe that there is a vacuum in America and even in each individual's life where they want to know the answers to life's questions. It's that vacuum where only really God's Spirit can fill. So when people connect with that aspect of our lives, I think that is what makes the difference. Michelle developed complications in her last pregnancy, and little Josie arrived three months earlier than expected. Since the NICU experience was still fresh in Michelle's mind, I asked her if she's open to having more babies in the near future. I'm 44 and if that would happen we would be thrilled, but it will just be a matter waiting to see what the Lord has in store for us. Their lives may seem reminiscent of the Waltons; but life is not always easy, and the Duggar's do have their share of critics. There's people that don't like us because of the size family that we have, but we've had many e-mails from people, like this one lady the other day who said, "I was getting ready to have an abortion, and I turned on the TV and I saw your show, and I thought, if these people can do it with 17 children, I can do it with one; and I decided not to have an abortion." I'm so thankful for testimonies like that, because it keeps us going. There's so many encouraging e-mails of people that came to know the Lord, or maybe families that have started taking the family to church and getting involved in giving their life to the Lord, and that's what it's all about. Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar are also the authors of a brand-new book. This one is called, "A Love That Multiplies." We welcome them to The 700 Club, hello. Jim Bob and Hello, good morning. Well, we've heard why, in that piece, you chose to give up birth control, but has there ever been a point along the way as you grew and built your family, where you said to each other, or maybe just quietly to yourselves, "Maybe we've gone too far?" I think probably when I was expecting our seventh baby, I began to realize this was impossible. What was I thinking? And yet, I think at that point I remembered what a great man of God said, "Don't question in the darkness what God has shown you in the light." I think those days of having six babies under the age of five was very overwhelming but, we continued to just love those children, train them, and teach them to love God, and now we are enjoying the fruit of all that hard work as we have these older children that love God and really have a servant's heart. You mentioned training. One thing everyone notices about your family is that your children are incredibly polite. They're remarkably well behaved. Each one seems to pitch in. What have you done to be able to raise them in such a manner so that they really wind up—I mean, when somebody's bringing cameras into your home, we are seeing your family as it is, and it never seems to be an issue. How is that so? Well, we feel like we always have lots of little ones that are still in training. Of course, all of us are, but our heart's desire from the very beginning, we felt like God really laid on our hearts to train our children two things that were most important in their life. That if, number one, they love God with their whole heart, soul, mind and strength; and, number two, that they would love others, reach out with a servant's heart to love and meet the needs of others. Then we tell them often, "You will be a success in life no matter what God calls you to do. If you will do those two things, you will be a success." With so many children, I have often wondered this as I've watched your program, do you ever feel like it's difficult to have time for each one to feel like you're focused on them, like they matter. I mean, especially when kids go through teenage years, there are so many issues in life. Do you ever have children that feel left out? How do you deal with that? Well, I think one of the beautiful things about the dynamics of our family is early on we decided to homeschool our children. And so that has enabled us to spend lots of time with our children. And then just when I'm working through spelling tests with one of them, we may come across a word, and then it stirs something in their mind, and we begin to talk in a deeper conversation than just spelling words. I think there are opportunities throughout the day that we purpose to go deep into their lives, and especially with those teenagers—oh my, I think we set up late nights in our room talking to those older children and just letting them share their hearts with mom and dad. We tell them, "We are there to love you, to pray for you, to help you through those times, because we've been there ourselves." We know how it is, and so that's what we're here for is to love them and to pray them through. Well, we asked our Facebook fans if they had any questions for you. So here's one from Jessica who says, "Jim, how do you have so much patience with 19 kids? I only have three and find it very hard to keep calm all the time." Well, it's a daily challenge to try to stay and have the right response when different situations happen. I mean, like for instance, sometimes I'll find my tools laying out in the yard. They've been rained on and getting rusty or something like that. Well, I'm glad it's not just in my house. Yes, but we've asked our children to help us with that, if they see us talking with sharp words or raising our voice for them to come up and say, "Mommy, Daddy, please, maybe you're going over the line there, whatever." We try to keep each other accountable as a family to talk with soft words and have the right response. And I think as our family is accountable to each other, that really helps, and we pray that each one of us will learn to talk with the right words. Here's another question. This one is from Jeannie who says, "Have you thought about adopting your next child? We actually have thought about adoption. Really. That is something that we have prayed about and talked about and even we've gone over to other countries to help them with their adoption processes to speed up some of those things. But at this point we haven't begun that process, but we are definitely praying about it. Our older children are open to it immediately. They would love to adopt as many as we can get. Welcome to Washington for this CBN Newsbreak. A legal battle is brewing over new measure in New York City that targets pro-life pregnancy centers. The American Center for Law and Justice has asked a federal court to block it before it goes into effect in July. The new rule tells pregnancy centers what they should say when they advertise or talk to clients. But the ACLJ says this is really about Planned Parenthood trying to shut down their opponents, because they undermine their abortion business. The ACLJ says the rules violate the free-speech rights of pro-life clinics. Federal judges in Baltimore and Montgomery County Maryland recently struck down similar ordinances calling them "unconstitutional." We discovered that she was malnourished, had tonsillitis, and chronic ear infections. The strong antibiotic helped with the ear infections and swollen throat. And to help Ashley's grandparents make extra money for food and future medical expenses for the girls, we gave them a grant to start a small business selling food to their neighbors. Today, Ashley is healthy and happy. She's doing well in school and can hardly wait to get home to play with her sister and her new friends. I'm very happy that I can join in the games now. It's a joy to see Ashley playing with the other children. Thank you. We live in such abundance here in this country. Our big problem is overweight. We have too many people who are fat, because we have so much food. People like Ashley and others around the world starving; there's got to be some balance. We can enjoy what God has given us. I don't think we ought to be guilty because we live in a prosperous blessed country, because we're blessed by God. But the best way we can show we're grateful to God is when we help others, and we reach out to Ashley. Orphan's Promise is something that is treating, helping orphans in many countries. Operation Blessing is giving away here in America alone, something like 100 million pounds of food, supplies a year into the inner cities to help hungry people. So we do what we can, and your little bit whatever it is, makes a huge difference. You say, "Can it really be?" Yes, 65 cents. Do you believe that? Well, I was saying to Pat as that piece was running, when we were in the Philippines recently, and we had a medical clinic happening and running for the day in a remote area. So to have medical care along with whatever medications they needed for the situations they were facing, some of the kids were on the verge of starvation. We were able to give them the kind of food that pumps up there immune system quickly. A lot of these people then are going on and being trained for micro-enterprise opportunities. One of the things that we love to do in Orphan's Promise is to keep families together. If there's a way to undergird families and not have people have to place their children in institutions, that's an awesome thing to be able to do, so we thank you for your help with that. This is a person, Inez is asking, "Recently I saw a few trucks and billboards plastered with the message that the world is going to end on May 21st. I'm scared. Could these people be right? Years ago when we were just starting out and had one little studio, a man came to me and he said, "I have a revelation from God." I said, "What is it?" He said, "The world is going to end on Sunday." And I said, "That's a revelation you got from God?" He said, "Absolutely, it's going to be." I said, " Well, I'm sorry, I don't buy it." He said, "Well, you're going to be judged by God. You're breaking the Lord's commandments. I've got a revelation." Well, guess what happened on Sunday? They locked him up in the mental ward. He was as nutty as a fruitcake, but the idea was he had a revelation. Jesus said no man knows the day or the hour, no man, including the Son of man! Jesus himself said, "I don't know when it's going to be." So how does somebody say it's going to be 21st of May? Not on your life. What's next? Linda writes, "Pat, where do you find your information on what to feed Blue? I want to make sure my dogs get the proper nutrition. Blue always looks so healthy." Well, I bought him from a very fine breeder who had done all kinds of scientific breeding research. According to them, I hope I'm telling you correctly, but they said he had 14 champions in his bloodline. Wow! They kept breeding and breeding until they got something that's really good. They feed him Purina puppy chow. That's what they feed him. And I give him some yogurt, some vanilla yogurt. Greek yogurt, I'm sure. You can get cultured yogurt from the natural food store, but it's vanilla yogurt, a little bit of that and that's it. While I'm taking vitamins, he just whimpers like crazy, so I'm giving him a fish oil ever so often and vitamin D. He likes vitamin D. He whimpers unless I give him the vitamin D. I'm sure he does. If he could speak, he would ask for the rest of them. He doesn't like the C's. I give him C's, he spits them out. But he really digs that fish oil. He's not shiny because of the fish oil or the vitamins, it's just Purina puppy chow. It comes in a blue bag, just for Blue. All right. Blue bag and a little yogurt to mix it up. Friends, that Blue is a popular guy. Okay, this is Marie who says, "I am a 24-year-old mother of two toddlers. I hate myself and the way I look. This is starting to affect my relationship with my husband. How can I love myself?" Just sit back and read the Bible and tell how much God loves you. You are so special. I asked the former chaplain of the Navy. He's a rear admiral, black man. I said, "How did you handle discrimination when you were growing up?" He said, "I read in the Bible, and somebody told me that if I was the only person in the whole world, Jesus Christ would have died for me." And he says, "If Jesus loved me so much that He would have died for me, what difference does it make what people say about me? I completely ignore them." I think first of all, you need to understand, that if you were the only person on earth, Jesus would still have died for you, because you are precious in his sight. So, magnify yourself. In addition, look after yourself. You say, "I hate myself." Well get out and start exercising. Start cleaning yourself up. Fix your hair. Wear nice clothes. You don't have to look like a slob, and you don't have to go around looking all disheveled. See yourself as beautiful in Jesus. Look at yourself in the mirror and say, "I am the creation of God Almighty, and He loves me." Okay, what else? This is John who says, "When investing in silver and gold, which way is better to invest: buying the stock or buying the bars and coins?" Well, it's a little of both. It depends on the time. You know, you buy the bars and coins, you've got to store them someplace, and it gets to be a drag. It depends on how much you've got but it doesn't hurt to have some. I've got some coins from the United States mint, they were selling coins, and I got proofs and they've gone up in value. I also had some gold dust that came from Africa, and I had it processed into little teeny bars. So I've got little bars but not much of it. Mostly it's just the stocks and the ETF which is the gold ETF. There is one for silver and that to me is an easy way of doing it rather than storing the stuff. Some people think, "I want to have some gold coins," so by all means do it. Yes, I mean, we are so excited about this movie. The number-one comedy in America, about two different families. One is upper class, one is working class, and they come together and meet for the first time at a wedding on Martha's Vineyard. This film, not only will it make you laugh, it'll make you cry. It's a great family film, filled with themes that we love. The bride and groom decide that they are not going to consummate the relationship until marriage. So we were able to take an entertaining film but still infuse it with themes that we believe in, and virtues and values that we hold true. Good for you, not an easy thing to do in the business that you're in today. Not easy. Refreshing, can I say that? Can I say that, yes. Thank you. Well, earlier this week, I understand that you bought the film rights to the book called Heaven is for Real? Heaven is for Real. Yes. What was it about that that intrigued you, that made you say, "I want this?" That story of Colton, when you read that book, you can't help but be compelled by what he saw. Seeing it and being compelled by that message, it just read cinematic. It was a book that we had to get, and we are so excited about bringing that movie to the screen. Bringing that book to the screen. We did a feature on that particular book and we'd like to share a brief clip with people so they can get a little taste of what's to come in the movie. Take a look. Jesus and some angels came and flew me up to Heaven. I knew that the first person I saw was Jesus. He was wearing white robes with a purple sash, and He just came down nicely and gracefully. "Well dad, Jesus has markers. Dad, Jesus has markers." I didn't know what he meant. So I finally asked the right question. "Colton, where are Jesus' markers?" And He drops his toys down, and he stands up, and just he points, "Dad, they were right here," and he takes his fingers, points to the palms, then he bends over and touches the tops of his feet and looks up at me. "That's where Jesus's markers were dad." Out of the mouths of babes. Boy, that's going to be something. When you think that will be ready to roll? You know, we just closed the deal on the book rights, so we're going to hire a writer, and were actually going to go meet with the Burpos in a few weeks. So our hope is that it will happen as soon possible. We're at the very infant stages right now. But we're very, very, excited the movie. The innocence of that child, it's just really remarkable. Absolutely. You do something that's practically unheard of in Hollywood. I understand, is that one day a week you turn your Blackberry off? Really? Yes I do, yes. There's a function on your Blackberry or you can turn off your e-mail. So I do that every Friday night sundown to Saturday night sundown. Now, what made you do that? You know, I was raised observing the Sabbath. I've done it my entire life. It's something I just believe in. It wasn't something I was willing to compromise even in going to Hollywood. So from the first job that I ever took, I let them know, "Listen, a part of my faith is the Sabbath observance, and if it requires me to not observe Sabbath, then to take this job, then I can't accept the job. And I've done that with every job that I've been presented with in Hollywood; and believe it or not, people are saying okay. They accept it. Once you have a principle, and you don't compromise on it, it actually becomes not that hard to continue doing it. You know, there are a lot of people who would say you can't be a Christian and work in Hollywood. But you say, it actually gives you a competitive edge. What do you mean by that? What I mean by that is that I wake up in the morning, and I'm empowered, because I understand what my purpose is. I know God is on my side. If God is for me, who can be against me? So I can go into the office with purpose. I can go into the office empowered. And I can go into the office knowing that whatever challenges I face, God is on my side. And also it humbles me, because I understand that I am in a position of service. I'm not there just to make great movies. Well that's part of it, but I am there to be a representative, and I am there to show others the love of Christ. And you have such an opportunity DeVon, to really influence the culture with what you're doing in a positive way. I think that's very, very exciting. You had a pretty fast rise up the ladder once that rise started, but it wasn't always like that. I mean, you had to wait. Were you always sure that you were where God wanted you to be? No. I mean, there were times when I literally struggled with it. I think we all have these moments where we struggle with our purpose, and we struggle with what is our destiny. Why were we created? There was a moment in my career, a very pivotal moment where I was an assistant, and I was looking to make that next leap to executive which is the hardest leap to make in Hollywood. I had that long, dark night of the soul, where I literally had to cry out to God. One day while I was on the job, I went into the bathroom, and I had to cry out and say, "God, what are you doing? I need you to move on this job. Are you still here? Do you still believe me? Do you still listen? Do you still have a plan for my future?" And coming out of that one-on-one with God, He moved in my career in a way that blew my mind. I ended up having to step out on faith. I put in my two-week notice without having a job. And on my first day of unemployment, God blessed me with my first executive position in Hollywood. And He let me know early in my career, it wouldn't be about me having a relationship with the biggest movie star in the world, with the biggest producer, or the biggest agent. It would be about me having a relationship with the God of the universe. And if I would keep my relationship with Him first, there's nothing that He wouldn't do. You say in the book that our faith walk is similar to making a film. Yes. In what way? Because what I love about this idea of "produced by faith,' we all want to get in production in our career. But sometimes were not in production, because we have to go through more development. Every movie you see went through development first, then production, then distribution. God has the same plan for our life. Right now He is helping us write our script. He's trying to direct our movie. But sometimes we think we know better, and we say, "God, no, I got it." But if we sit back and let Him develop us, get us ready for production, He has a distribution plan that will blow our minds. That's how I look at our life as being a movie and that idea and that perspective has encouraged me. Because there are days when literally, I'm at my office and I'm like, "I'm giving up," because I don't see what God is doing. But when I step back and realize it's only one scene in my movie, I better not give up hope, and I better not write His name off my script. And He's never done. That's right, He's never done.
