UnderWing Transcripts PO Box 16282 Clearwater, Florida 33766 540 455-2333 / UnderWing@underwingtranscripts.com ________________________________________ The 700 Club Telethon Broadcast Thursday, October 8, 2009 GORDON ROBERTSON: Well, welcome to The 700 Club. The fate of a controversial cross is now in the Supreme Court’s hands. The cross was erected 75 years ago in the Mojave Desert has a memorial for World War I veterans. TERRY MEEUWSEN: But now, the American Civil Liberties Union says it’s unconstitutional. Here is Paul Strand with that story. CROSS PAUL STRAND: The cross at the heart of this case stands far out in the desert, covered in plywood. That’s because lower courts worry the cross represents a government endorsement of religion. But Kelly Shackelford argued in the Supreme Court today that if the justices this World War I memorial cut down, it will have far wider implications. Kelly Shackelford (Argued For the Cross): If you have to tear down a cross in the middle of 1.6 million acres of desert, then what do you do with the 24-foot-tall cross of sacrifice in the Arlington Memorial Cemetery that's seen by millions of people every day? PAUL STRAND: Those for the cross said it isn’t so much a religious symbol as simply a memorial to fallen veterans, but opponents strongly disagreed. Peter Eliasberg (Argued Against the Cross): My father is a Jewish war veteran. My grandfather was a Jewish war veteran in World War I. And to say that a cross represents the sacrifice of the 250,000 Jews who fought for this country in World War I is simply not true. PAUL STRAND: The justices didn’t seem at all unfriendly towards the cross. In fact, from the most conservative to the most liberal, they seemed to be looking for some way that the cross could remain standing. Jay Sekulow: I think it’s going to be close. I think that cross ends up staying at the end of the day. PAUL STRAND: In the Supreme Court, the justices seemed leery of tackling the really big issues like separation of church and state and whether the man who brought this suit even had standing to do so. Most of it revolved around procedural matters. But still, even out of that could come a decision with huge implications. Jay Sekulow (American Center for Law & Justice): The danger in this case is the precedent it could set. At the end of the day, to have a constitutional crisis over an eight-foot cross in the Mojave Desert sets up a really dangerous precedent. PAUL STRAND: Henry and Wanda Sandoz have been taking care of that cross for 25 years. Wanda Sandoz (Takes Care of the Cross): If they can take this one down, what's to stop them from taking any one that they want down? PAUL STRAND: Paul Strand, CBN News, the Supreme Court. GORDON ROBERTSON: I hope they take the opportunity here to really change what they’ve done. And what they’ve done is they’ve said endorsement of religion, any government endorsement of religion, violates the establishment clause of the First Amendment. And that’s absolute nonsense. I wish they’d take the opportunity to say, “Sorry, guys, we’re wrong.” It’s okay for government to endorse and say that why not have a cross, why not have these memorials, why not do this. Certainly, there is nothing in society that’s being harmed by it, and nothing is being forced on anyone from having a cross standing up in the desert. It just makes no sense to me that they’ve taken the establishment clause this far. I wish they’d take the opportunity that mere endorsement is not establishment of religion. If they were courageous enough to do that, we’d get rid of a lot of these nuisance cases. Lee Webb has the rest of our top stories from the CBN Newsroom. Lee. PACIFIC QUAKE, TYPHOON PAUL STRAND: Gordon, another series of powerful earthquakes caused panic in the South Pacific today. Two quakes struck near the Philippines and the Vanuatu Islands, the tremors sending islanders fleeing to higher ground in fear of a tsunami. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, though, issued alerts for 11 nations and territories, including Papua, New Guinea and Fiji. But a series of waves turned out to be small and harmless. In Japan, a powerful typhoon has killed two people. The storm caused widespread damage, flooding and injuries. Typhoon Melor hit the country's mainland today, knocking out power to hundreds of thousands of homes and leaving millions of commuters stranded. NAPINDAN LEE WEBB: It’s been nearly two weeks since Typhoon Ketsana drenched the Philippines. Some remote areas are still swamped by floodwaters, leaving thousands of people in serious trouble. But as George Thomas reports, Operation Blessing has arrived on the scene to help. GEORGE THOMAS: They keep coming and going, trudging every day through water in flip-flops or bare feet. In some places, the water is chest high. Floodwaters from Typhoon Ketsana are receding in parts of Manila, but in the village of Napindan, it's like the storm happened just yesterday. Most of the 5,000 people who live in this village have not gotten any help. That changed this week when Operation Blessing did an outreach to some 2,000 people. Operation Blessing brought with them food, water and medical supplies. Liza didn't want to miss this rare chance to get her six-month-old baby examined by an Operation Blessing doctor. And so she placed her in a basin, because this was safer than carrying her through the dirty floodwaters. Liza (Typhoon Survivor): The water is just too deep. This was the only way I could get my baby to see the relief team. I'm so thankful that you came today. GEORGE THOMAS: A sentiment echoed throughout the village as people walked in chest deep waters, then got on a boat to get to dry land where Operation Blessing had set up camp. Christina Reburiano (Typhoon Survivor): We are happy that you prioritized us. This is the first time we got relief. We have something to eat today. This is a big thing for us. GEORGE THOMAS: But not everyone could make the trip. Some were too sick to walk through the floodwaters. So Operation Blessing sent in one of their field doctors. Dr. Wendell Asuncion: We have information that there's a lady in this house that's had a miscarriage and a fever. GEORGE THOMAS: After spending a few minutes, Dr. Wendell discovered that in fact most members of the family members had a fever. We met JR, who was recovering from chicken pox. He was so emotional about Operation Blessing coming to his home. JR (Typhoon Survivor): I'm overjoyed because for several nights I kept on praying, “Lord please send people to help us and please heal my family.” I believe the Lord sent you. The Lord answered my prayer through Operation Blessing. GEORGE THOMAS: Dr. Wendell gave each family member medicine to fight the infections. Dr. Wendell Asuncion (Operation Blessing Philippines): I'm fulfilled because it is not only medicines that we gave them, it is also the love of Jesus we have shared to them. For this village, we plan to go back and bring more doctors to treat more patients in need of help. GEORGE THOMAS: And to help flood victims get around the village, Operation Blessing has provided a rubber boat to make life here just a little more bearable. For many residents, these acts of kindness have meant the world to them. Woman: Thank you, Operation Blessing! GEORGE THOMAS: More help is coming. Operation Blessing plans to hold several more food and medical outreaches in the days ahead. George Thomas, CBN News, Manila. LEE WEBB: And Gordon, as you well know, that kind of relief doesn’t just happen. It takes a lot of effort to get the infrastructure in place, and Operation Blessing has been doing that for years. GORDON ROBERTSON: Yes, the infrastructure has been in place in Manila. It was originally started back in 1995. That’s when we started Operation Blessing Philippines. And it’s because of people like you who cared enough to give, who joined The 700 Club. So if you’re a member of The 700 Club, thank you. That relief effort is based on your long term commitment to be a part of what The 700 Club does around the world. We’re a lot more than just a TV show. We’re reaching out with hands of love and compassion, and when disasters strike, we want to strike back. But you need infrastructure to do that. You need long term employees to do that. You need relationships with the military. Some of our Operation Blessing teams there were being brought to those remote locations by the Filipino armed forces. You need to be a reliable partner in order to have all of that in place. And so thank you. If you’re a member, thank you, because a portion of every gift to The 700 Club goes to the work of Operation Blessing. Another portion goes to the work of CBN WorldReach to establish regional centers around the world, where we’re reproducing CBN, the ministry of CBN. We’re producing local shows in their heart language, showing testimonies of what Jesus is doing for them. We’re also providing the administrative support for Operation Blessing. So all of this can happen. If you’re not a member, you can join right now. All you have to do is call that number: 1-800-759-0700. How much is it? It’s just 20 dollars a month, 65 cents a day. You can also do it through the Internet if you want to speed your gift in. Well, Scott Steele was an out-of-work carpenter who was down to his last ten dollars. Yet in just two weeks, ten became 10,000, and that was only the beginning. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SCOTT AND MELISSA STEELE MIA EVANS: Scott Steele was an experienced carpenter with plenty of work. That allowed his wife, Melissa, to be a stay-at-home mom with their two children. Scott Steele: Mostly, when 9/11 hit, that’s when it just really went bad. It was hard then. The building permits and everything stopped, and people were afraid. So nobody wanted to go spend money on remodeling their house. MIA EVANS: Over the next three years, the Steele’s almost lost everything. Melissa Steele: Things got so bad that we were on food stamps. We were desperate. We went into forbearance on our home. Scott Steele: I went to God and said, “Okay, God, this is who you said we are. This is what you said we can have, so I’m waiting on you.” MIA EVANS: The Steele’s turned to their faith in God. They prayed about their finances. Scott Steele: And I just said, “Okay, God, I can’t go any further. I need something today. I need an answer.” And I hear—God talks to you—I hear, “I want you to sow a dollar into ten ministries.” Of course, at the time, we didn’t even have ten dollars. Melissa Steele: I was going through some clothes, and I found ten dollars, which is very unlike me to leave money in clothes. So when I found the ten dollars, I absolutely knew that it was God saying, “I will even give you the seed to begin this process.” MIA EVANS: Scott and Melissa wanted to reach others, so in April, 2004, they sent in their first gift of one dollar to CBN. Melissa Steele: There are so many things that CBN takes care of, that they’re a part of people’s lives in a practical way, and that is sort of a vision that Scott and I have to be a part of people’s lives in a practical way; so we identify with the vision that CBN has. MIA EVANS: Two weeks later, the estate of Melissa’s late grandmother closed, and they got 10,000 dollars. Scott Steele: We had no idea that anything was going to break loose at that point, because it’s been three years. Melissa Steele: Whatever process needed to happen in order for it to get the final signoff, it happened in that two-week period. And it really was; we knew at that point that it was God blessing our obedience. MIA EVANS: With that money, God told Scott and Melissa to increase their giving to CBN 100-fold. This time, they sent in 100 dollars. Within six months, Scott was offered several lucrative construction contracts. Scott Steele: We basically come out of there with about 150,000 dollars in three months. MIA EVANS: The Steele’s believed God wanted them to increase their giving to 1,000 dollars, so they did. Scott’s business picked up even more, bringing in 700,000 dollars. Scott Steele: We paid our tithe, and I said, “Okay, God, now what?” And He said, “Now I want you to sow 10,000 into those ten ministries.” And He said, pretty much, “As long as you’ll continue, I’ll continue.” Melissa Steele: It really did, in a physical sense, open my eyes to the spiritual implications that sowing has. So be obedient. Listen to what God is telling you to do and just do it. Scott Steele: And He’s no respecter of persons. Melissa Steele: Yes. If He can do this for us, if we can walk this journey with Him, He can certainly do it for others. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON TEACHES GORDON ROBERTSON: Here’s what the promise of scripture is. It’s from II Corinthians 9, “Remember this, a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop, for God loves the person who gives cheerfully. And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. Scott and Melissa learned the principle of sowing and reaping. And the more they sowed, the more they reaped. And they kept track of it, and over time the abundance came. And God kept challenging them at various levels, “Will you trust Me? Will you trust Me?” And every time we trust Him, He comes through. Well, not long ago, Stella Reaves had 50,000 dollars in debt and only 30 dollars in her bank account. Stella was obviously on the brink of financial ruin until she took some advice from a friend. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * STELLA REAVES KEN HULME: All of her life, Stella Reaves just wanted one thing. Stella Reaves: I always wanted a beautiful home. I said, “I love windows. And everywhere I look, Lord, I want to be able to look out a window.” KEN HULME: These days, Stella is living in her dream home. But not too many years ago, she was financially wiped out. Stella Reaves: The humiliation of not being able to pay your debt, and then being a Christian, all at the same time, I felt very badly. KEN HULME: After her husband died, Stella was forced to provide for her daughter, Jacqueline, on one salary. The problem was, Stella still wanted to maintain her comfortable lifestyle. Stella Reaves: I began to get credit cards on top of credit cards on top of credit cards. I was just overwhelmed with debt. KEN HULME: Twelve credit cards later and 50,000 dollars in debt, Stella was at her wits’ end. She spent sleepless nights wondering how she would ever get out from under that mountain. But it wasn’t until she missed two car payments and had her car repossessed that she cried out to God for help. Stella Reaves: I began to walk down the streets with my head down. And I was saying to the Lord, “I know that I am your child, and I know you have a plan for my life. And I know I’ve messed up as far as bills are concerned, but I need another chance.” KEN HULME: Stella’s second chance came in the form of advice she received from a trusted friend. Stella Reaves: She said, “Stella, why don’t you give to CBN?” She said, “God will bless you.” KEN HULME: Stella took her advice. Stella Reaves: I was flipping through the channels, and I saw Brother Pat Robertson, and he was scribbling on the board. It didn’t mean anything to me, but he was talking about reciprocity. And one scripture stayed in my mind, “He that giveth to the poor lendeth to the Lord.” And I had, at that time, probably about 30 dollars. And I said, “Okay. I’ll just give this 20. Twenty dollars won’t hurt me.” I picked up the phone; I called CBN, and I joined as a CBN partner, and things began to change on that first 20 dollars. KEN HULME: At the time, Stella was looking for another job. Two days after she sent in her pledge, she received a job offer as a customer care specialist with a major cellular phone company. She soon became a leading salesperson. As Stella’s salary and bonuses increased, her giving to CBN increased as well. She even turned in her leased vehicle for a car with no payments, just so she could give more to CBN. Stella Reaves: I said, “Lord, if I don’t have to pay this 475 dollars for my truck, then I can give more to CBN to help feed the hungry, to help clothe children, send kids back to school, so someone can have some clean water to drink.” And I got on the phone, and I called again. I moved up to 209 dollars, and the blessings just never stopped. KEN HULME: Soon, Stella increased her giving again. This time, she became a CBN Founder. Stella Reaves: That’s very important to me, because I know that’s what God wants. I know God wants us to take care of the poor. I know God wants us to feed the hungry. KEN HULME: And God challenged Stella to do something else. Stella Reaves: And the Lord said, “You need to get rid of the credit cards.” And I had a hard time getting rid of the credit cards, because that’s how I lived for such a long time. And I was afraid to trust God with real money. And I sat down; I said, “God, I’m going to trust you.” I got rid of my credit cards, and I began to pay off my bills. KEN HULME: Stella has nearly paid off her creditors and was able to buy this beautiful home. And the lessons that she’s learning are now being passed on to her daughter. Jacqueline: She came and said, “Just put CBN at the top.” And I did. I wrote out the 500 dollars. And just a few days later, I went for an interview. They loved me and offered me three times more than what I’m making right now. KEN HULME: The same advice Stella gave to her daughter, she enthusiastically shares with others. Stella Reaves: I would say make that first step. Pick up the phone; call CBN; join The 700 Club. And watch God multiply. Watch God bring it back to you a hundredfold. I know He will do it. I just say trust God. God will do it. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON TEACHES GORDON ROBERTSON: Trust God. He will do it. He is trustworthy. He doesn’t change. We’re the ones who change, but He doesn’t. He’s the same yesterday, today and forever. And what He has promised, He will do. Here is the promise from Isaiah 58, “I want you to share your food with the hungry and to welcome poor wanderers into your home. Give clothes to those who need them. If you do these things, your salvation will come like the dawn. Then when you call, the Lord will answer, ‘Yes, I am here.’ He will quickly reply.” That promise can be for you. It can be for you. It can be for you. All it has to do on your part is to take that first step, just as Stella did. She took the first step and said, “Okay, I’ll trust God. I’ll trust Him with giving.” And then He started to speak to her. He started to show things to her. He started to say, “You need to change some things about how you use credit cards.” And then He started giving her opportunities, opportunities with work and advancement. All of that can happen to you, because He is no respecter of persons. What He will honor is those who trust Him. So if you want to start an adventure in giving, give us a call: 1-800-759-0700. What we’re asking you to do is join The 700 Club. How much is that? Well, it’s 20 dollars a month, 65 cents a day. And you join with tens of thousands of other people that want to take care of the poor, provide food for those in need, provide medical care. What you saw in that wonderful Operation Blessing outreach in the Philippines as they’re dealing with the after effects of a typhoon, all of that is made possible because of 700 Club members. Some of you say, “Well, I can give more than 20 dollars. I can give at 700 Club Gold.” That’s 40 dollars or more a month. There’s 1000 Club. That’s 1,000 dollars a year. That’s 84 dollars or more a month. The 2500 Club is 2,500 dollars a year. Founders is 5,000 dollars. And then there’s Chairman’s Circle, 10,000 or more a year. At whatever level God is speaking to you to give, go to the phone and call: 1-800-759-0700. If I can get a drum roll, to encourage you, we’ve got some great news. Some existing CBN 700 Club partners from Virginia are saying, “We like giving so much, we’re going to challenge others to give for the next 30 minutes 150,000 dollars.” Let’s pray. “Lord, we ask for blessing on the partners in Virginia who made it possible to issue this challenge. And Lord, we know your word over them is true, and you will open the windows of Heaven and pour out blessings they cannot contain. And Lord, for those watching right now, we just ask that you would speak to them, be with them, bless them and encourage them, for we ask it in Jesus’ name. Amen.” TERRY MEEUWSEN: Amen. GORDON ROBERTSON: You heard it, 150,000 dollars, 30 minutes, 29 minutes and 55 seconds to go. We need to hear from you, so go to the phone and call: 1-800-759-0700. We’re asking you to join The 700 Club. That’s just 20 dollars a month, 65 cents a day. You can do it online at CBN.com. When you do it through the Internet, you automatically sign up for Pledge Express, automatic monthly giving. There are no stamps, no checks, nothing to mail in. We save so much on the processing, we’re able to send as our gift back to you “Power for Life.” If you want that, sign up for Pledge Express. Let’s go over to Kristi at the phones. Kristi. KRISTI WATTS: Thank you so much, Gordon. I was just thinking, God loves you so much. He hears your prayers. He knows the challenges that you face, that many of us face today. Listen, and that same love that the Lord has, we have for you. And that love is what inspired Pat to put together this series called Right on the Money, financial advice for tough times. We know it’s hard. That’s why we want to help you through it. In fact, this is what Pat has to say about this. Take a look. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PAT ENDORSEMENT PAT ROBERTSON: The world’s financial landscape is rapidly changing. GORDON ROBERTSON: John and Shari Gregory owed twice as much money as they could earn in a year, and paying off all their bills seemed impossible, until Shari found a way out of debt in an unusual place. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * JOHN AND SHARI GREGORY John Gregory: I thought all along we’d get married, have kids and be normal people, have a normal family. DAN REANY: After numerous miscarriages and years of costly infertility treatments, John and Shari Gregory ended up more than 60,000 dollars in debt. John Gregory: We would buy things that we really didn’t need to just to try to comfort us, separate from the Lord. Shari Gregory: We began to look at our situation, and I thought, “Well, we’re never going to get out of debt. It will take 100 years.” DAN REANY: Yet, even through difficult times, the Gregorys remained faithful Christians. They tithed and gave to The 700 Club. Shari Gregory: We called and we said, “Well, we want to be 700 Club members, but can we be half members, because we can’t afford a full membership.” And the lady laughed, and she said, “Of course. Every amount that you give helps for those people in need.” DAN REANY: John was a manager in a paper mill. He made a decent living, but debt from the medical bills and overspending totaled more than twice their annual income. Getting out of debt seemed impossible, until one night, Shari read the Lord’s Prayer. Shari Gregory: I prayed the part where it said, “Forgive us our debts as we forgive other’s debts.” And I thought about it, and I thought, “Debts. Well, I know that’s sin, but what about financial debts?” So we began to pray and ask the Lord to forgive us, not only for going into debt, but for not trusting Him for our needs. DAN REANY: The Gregorys were given an opportunity to become partners in a new financial consulting business. The company grew quickly, and so did their profits. John Gregory: Within two years, we were debt free. Shari Gregory: God provided enough money that we could do something I didn’t think was possible in our lifetime. DAN REANY: Then God answered another prayer, by bringing their two adopted children, Joel and Sela, into their lives. Shari Gregory: I absolutely adore my children. I know they’re the ones that He intended me to have. DAN REANY: Today, the Gregorys are members of CBN’s Chairman’s Circle. Shari Gregory: We love to give. We absolutely love to give. John Gregory: We had always been faithful in tithing. We had always faithful as members to The 700 Club. And as the years went by, we would increase our membership. Even when we didn’t have the money, it was just something we believed in. DAN REANY: The Gregorys sold their partnership in the consulting business and opened a gift shop, something they always wanted to do. They say God recently provided them with a new location that tripled their traffic. And because they see their business as a ministry, they say they are able to reach out to more people. Shari Gregory: If you live a life of generosity, you will receive from the Lord generosity back. It absolutely is a guarantee. It can’t be broken. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON TEACHES GORDON ROBERTSON: Here’s the promise she’s talking about. It’s from Psalm 112, “Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.” I you want good to come to you, be generous. I know in these difficult economic times, it seems hard to do that. But when we do, then we suddenly find out that we’re in the favor of God, and He starts to bless us, bless us beyond our comprehension. Now, John and Shari were deep into debt. They had to confess that debt was a sin and what they had done was wrong. And they asked God, “Please forgive us. Forgive us our debt.” And He did. He found a way where there seemed to be no way. And through that, He gave them an idea to prosper. That can happen to you. All you have to do is take that first step. Take the first step. Do it. Start an adventure in giving, and in generous giving, and see what God will do for you. What He has done for others, He will do for you. Call us: 1-800-759-0700. We’re asking you to join The 700 Club. We’re in the middle of a 150,000 dollar challenge, 23 minutes to go. We need to hear from you. We want to go way over the top on this challenge. And there are so many needs in the world today, so many opportunities to preach the Gospel around the world. We have new networks in Latin America. We’re asking for programs in Asia. They’re asking for programs in Africa. If you want to see the Gospel preached around the world, join The 700 Club. How much is it? Twenty dollars a month. That’s just 65 cents a day. And you join with so many people that want to make a difference today. So do it right now: 1-800-759-0700. Well, the golf course is a great place to unwind after work or spend a few hours with friends. For Anthony Griffin, it’s also the place where he developed a million-dollar idea. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ANTHONY GRIFFIN ANDREW KNOX: Anthony Griffin is a quality control manager who enjoys his job. When he’s not at work, he’s on the golf course. He’s passionate about golf and loves teaching kids. He even started a ministry that compares the game of golf with living a Christian life. Anthony Griffin: In golf, you have golf etiquette. So in ministry, we have etiquette, too, which is the Kingdom of God. We have the principles and the laws of God. ANDREW KNOX: Including the principle of tithing. Anthony Griffin: If I give, I’ll receive. But you just don’t give to receive. You give because you really love God, and God commanded you to give, because of blessings pronounced on your life through giving. ANDREW KNOX: And for Anthony, giving includes giving to CBN.. Anthony Griffin: They are teaching the principles and precepts of God of giving, and sowing, and reaping into nations and people outside of other countries. ANDREW KNOX: And Anthony is seeing blessings in a huge way. God gave him the idea for a unique golf shoe design. Anthony Griffin: One day while I was playing golf, I was hitting the ball, and a tee flipped up and went into my shoe, because the tees, when you hit from the driver, when you hit it, they will flip. And this one flipped up, and it caught into my shoe. And I was like, “Where did my tee go?” And the Lord was giving me a vision. He said, “Keep it in your shoe.” I said, “Keep it in my shoe?” ANDREW KNOX: Anthony designed a shoe that holds the golfer’s tee, divot tool, and ball marker right on the shoe. Anthony Griffin: In golf, you have to bend down to do everything, to put your tee in the ground. Your shoe is already there. You have to put the ball marker. It’s already on your shoe. You’ve got to bend down anyway. ANDREW KNOX: Preorders came flooding in. His first order from the manufacturer is 200,000 pairs of shoes, with 500,000 to follow. Anthony is expected to make millions. He’s grateful God gave him such an innovative idea, and he feels the Lord blessed him because of his faithfulness to give. Anthony Griffin: Just give. Just trust God and watch God work. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON ROBERTSON: Just give. Just trust God and watch God work. What will God do? He’ll give you an idea. He’ll give you an idea in a very unlikely place. And if you just run with what He tells you to do, then you can run into blessings. Prosperity can be yours. All it takes on your part is just to obey the very simple principles He lays down. What are they? Love God. Love your neighbor. Be generous. When you do these things, then He comes in, and He blesses you. He blesses you beyond comprehension. And that can happen to you. Call us right now: 1-800-759-0700. We’re asking you to join The 700 Club. How much is that? Twenty dollars a month, 65 cents a day. Some of you say you can join at a higher level. There is 700 Club Gold. That’s 40 dollars or more a month. The 1000 Club is 1,000 dollars a year, and that equals 84 dollars or more a month. The 2500 Club, 2,500 a year. Founders, 5,000 dollars a year. And then Chairman’s Circle, 10,000 or more a year. At whatever level God is speaking to you, whatever level for you is this will be a generous gift, do it right now: 1-800-759-0700. Let’s go to Wendy at the phones. Wendy. WENDY GRIFFITH: Thanks, Gordon. Well, did you know that giving is really all about the heart? Where your treasure is, there your heart will be. We’re in the middle of a 150,000 dollar challenge. That means every dollar that you pledge right now will be doubled, dollar for dollar, so give us a call right now. Terry. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Well, the Zhang family can barely afford to get by, so when their daughter developed a life-threatening heart problem, they didn’t know what to do. But when CBN came to their village, they knew what they had to do. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ZHANG YUTONG’S HEART TIM BRANSON: The Zhang twins have been inseparable since birth. They sound alike. They do their hair alike, and they giggle at the exact same things. The only difference between the two is that Yutong almost didn’t make it past her third birthday. She had been diagnosed with a serious heart problem. Mrs. Zhang: Yutong was never able to run and jump like her sister. She was always tired. The doctors said she could lose her life if she didn’t have surgery. TIM BRANSON: The Zhangs pooled all their resources but still couldn’t afford the open heart surgery. Mrs. Zhang sells vegetables, and Mr. Zhang is a welder for a bridge construction company. Their combined income is only about 100 dollars a month. Mr. Zhang: I wanted to help my daughter. It doesn’t matter how hard work gets or how cold it is standing in the river welding; I just want her to be well. If only she could wait four or five years, then I could make enough money to pay for surgery. TIM BRANSON: But Yutong couldn’t wait. The longer she went without open heart surgery, the worse she got. Mrs. Zhang: I could tell by the look in her eyes that she wanted me to do something. She was crying out for help. TIM BRANSON: The Zhangs couldn’t imagine living without Yutong; neither could her sister Wu. Mrs. Zhang: When she saw Yutong crying, she would cry, too. It was like she was feeling her sister’s pain; maybe because they are twins. I couldn’t bear seeing them both upset and crying. TIM BRANSON: Just when the Zhangs were about to give up, CBN came to their village with a free medical clinic. Everyone rejoiced when CBN offered little Yutong free heart surgery. Mrs. Zhang: It was a dream come true to have CBN come to Yutong’s rescue. TIM BRANSON: Today, Yutong’s heart is completely well, and no one is happier to see her up and running than her sister and best friend, Wu. Mrs. Zhang: Thank you so much for bringing my family back together and giving us hope. Now, thanks to CBN, Yutong will grow up to be a healthy girl. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TERRY MEEUWSEN: Isn’t it wonderful to know that you and I can be a part of making something that amazing happen? It’s not just happening in the lives of these little children. It’s happening in people’s lives all around the world. And for just 65 cents a day, 20 dollars a month, you can be a part of that. If you haven’t joined The 700 Club yet, this is a great time to do it. We are in the midst of a 150,000 dollar challenge. And that, of course, means that when you call right now, everything you pledge will be matched dollar for dollar up to that amount. So please call: 1-800-759-0700. Or you can log on to CBN.com. And when you call, give through Pledge Express. It’s electronic monthly giving. It means your bank does all the work. You don’t have any of the hassle. But it saves a lot of administrative costs for us and allows us to put even more of your gift right into the lives of the kind of people that you just saw in that story, little Zhang, whose life was forever changed, because people like you cared. Gordon. GORDON ROBERTSON: We’re counting down to victory on a 150,000 dollar challenge, 13 minutes and 44 seconds. If I can get a drum roll, from Benton, Kentucky, a 2500 Club member says, “I want to double to Founder this year. I’m going to 5,000 dollars.” That gets matched and doubled. It becomes 10,000 because we’re in this challenge. A challenge means existing partners like giving so much they want to challenge others to give, and so they’re challenging you. They say they’ll match you dollar for dollar for every gift you make for the next 13 minutes and 19, 18 seconds. So call us: 1-800-759-0700. You can also log on to CBN.com. When you give through the Internet, you automatically sign up for Pledge Express, electronic monthly giving. There are no stamps, no checks, nothing to mail. We save so much, we’re able to send as our gift back to you “Power for Life.” So if you want that, sign up for Pledge Express. And it keeps pouring in. Here from Lompoc, California, again a 2500 Club member doubling, going to Founder, 5,000. And they’re doing it through Pledge Express, so that is wonderful. Twelve minutes, 40 seconds to go. We need to hear from you. Call us right now: 1-800-759-0700. Well, not long ago, Keith and Deborah Ayers lost their income, their truck and their house. But that didn’t stop them from helping others with even greater needs. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * KEITH AND DEBORAH AYERS DAN REANY: Keith and Deborah Ayers recently took time to volunteer for an Operation Blessing food distribution in Tulsa, Oklahoma. What made the day especially important to them was that long ago, they were in food lines themselves. Keith Ayers: I was unemployed for a couple of months. DAN REANY: During that time, Keith and Deborah’s new truck was repossessed, and they got a foreclosure notice and moved out of their home. Deborah Ayers: Truthfully, we give to God before our other bills. That’s the first thing that comes out of our check, and then whatever is left over, we do the best we can with it. DAN REANY: Even while Keith was unemployed, every month they sat down with a box of ministry opportunities and gave to CBN and other organizations. Deborah Ayers: We’ve always given. It’s just not a question with us. You give first, and then let God take care of the rest. Keith Ayers: When it came down to the fact of writing those checks out or going and buying the food, we felt God was saying, “Trust Me.” Deborah Ayers: Because I believe that the Lord deserves our best, and if you just continue to sow that He will turn things around for you. DAN REANY: Within the next few months, Keith was rehired by his company. The bank offered to restructure their mortgage. They moved back into their house and got their truck back. Deborah Ayers: It’s really good now. God has restored back to us all of our appliances, and they’re brand new. The ones that we lost were eighties models. DAN REANY: Today Keith and Deborah love to share their story and encourage people to tithe. Keith Ayers: Even when things seemed tight, the Bible instructs in Malachi that we are to tithe. Jesus said, “When I was hungry, you fed Me.” I really feel like we’re able to give back because He has blessed us so much. Deborah Ayers: If you’ll just hold on to God, He will see you through. He will take care of you, and He’ll bring it around. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON ROBERTSON: He will take care of you. What a wonderful couple, helping others in need even though they had need. And as a result, God blessed them. That can happen to you. All you have to do is call us if you want to take an adventure in giving. Just test God. It’s the only time we’re able to test Him is in our tithes and offerings, our gifts. That’s the only time. So if you want to start and say, “Yes, I want to be a part of this,” 1-800-759-0700. We need to stop the challenge clock with just nine minutes to go, because we’ve got some great news. Partners from California are saying 150,000 isn’t enough. They want to double the challenge. They want to take it all the way to 300,000 dollars. Let’s pray. “Lord, we ask for blessing for this. We ask for blessing for the partners in California who made it possible to double it. And, Lord, we just ask for double blessing for them, that windows would open in Heaven and blessings would just be poured out, so much so that they cannot be contained. And for those watching right now making decisions about what to do, just speak to them. Comfort them. Encourage them, for we ask it in Jesus’ name. Amen.” You heard it, 300,000 dollars. We’ve got just 16 minutes to go, 16 minutes and 38 seconds. We need to hear from you, so call us right now: 1-800-759-0700. Or you can log on to CBN.com and give through the Internet. Let’s go to Kristi at the phones. Kristi. KRISTI WATTS: Thanks, Gordon. I was just sitting there watching that piece that we just aired. And the man was saying that God was speaking to him, saying, “Do you trust Me?” And I really started thinking about that. Really, that’s the core issue. Do we trust God? Do we trust that God wants the best for us? Do you trust that God wants to help you in your finances, that He loves you and He cares for you? So listen, just trust God, and I promise you, I promise you, He will make a way. Listen, I want to encourage you today. Pat has put together this series called Right on the Money, financial advice for tough times. We know it’s tough. That’s why we want to help you out. Trust Him. Listen, this is what Pat has to say. Take a listen. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PAT ENDORSEMENT PAT ROBERTSON: The world’s financial landscape is rapidly changing. It is a dynamic CD that Pat has put together just for you. Listen, we need you to call in or log in right now. We’re in the middle a challenge. I think they put it up, but let’s do it again. A 300,000 dollar challenge, which means that when you call in right now, that money is doubled. So do that, please. Lori, from, where is she from, New York. She’s a 700 Club Gold at 40 dollars a month. Thank you, Lori. See those names scrolling by? I just want to say a quick thanks. Anyway, Terry, thank you to you, too, Terry, because you do a good job. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Thank you, Kristi. Well, right now, we’d like you to meet an 11-year-old girl from Vietnam. After her mother died, she was forced into hard labor, but today she has a loving home and she has a bright future. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * HANG’S RESCUE TERRY MEEUWSEN: Hang’s mother had been running a small ferryboat when she accidentally drowned in this Vietnamese River. Hang: My neighbors and I went into the water to look for my mother, but we couldn’t find her. Three days later, they found her body. I miss Mom very much. We were very close. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Hang was only 11 when her mother died. She went to live with her grandmother, where she worked hard in the fields to plant and harvest the crops. Hang: I didn’t mind it at all. I love my family. I just decided to be strong. TERRY MEEUWSEN: But the financial needs of her grandmother’s household were too great, and soon Hang was forced to drop out of school. That’s when her grandma brought her here to this Christian home and school for children sponsored by CBN’s Orphan’s Promise. Here, Hang was able to return to school and eat three healthy meals a day, all under the loving eyes of her new house parents. Hang: I like it here, because our house parents love us so much. TERRY MEEUWSEN: And whenever she can, Hang takes time to hop on her bicycle and head home to visit with her grandma. Hang: When my mother died, I threw away my dreams. Now I am studying hard to achieve them and be able to improve the lives of my grandmother and my other siblings. Thank you CBN for changing my life. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TERRY MEEUWSEN: It’s amazing, isn’t it, to know that you can step into the midst of a child’s pain and need like that and give her back her dreams, give her back hope and a future. That’s exactly what’s happening when you partner with us in all of this work. We need you to help us. There are so many children like this around the world who need to know that someone cares, who need three meals a day, who need to go to school, who need to have the concept replaced in their hearts that they are not the tail, but God has a plan for their lives. God wants to make them the head. Help us bring that message of His love to them, won’t you? Call right now and join The 700 Club. Our number is toll free. It’s so simple: 1-800-759—0700. You can join at many club levels. We’ve told you the general club membership is 65 cents a day, 20 dollars a month. But look, there you have it, the 700 Club Gold level at 40 dollars a month. We have 1000 Club members, 2500 Club members. Our Founders join us at 5,000 dollars a year. Even a Chairman’s Circle level for people who give 10,000 dollars or more a year. Please ask God what He’d have you do, and then with enthusiasm and anticipation call and join with us. You can also log on to CBN.com and join that way. Gordon. GORDON ROBERTSON: All right, let’s check in with the red number of where we stand on this 300,000 dollar challenge: 121,000. That’s about 11,000 a minute. And we need to hear from you. We’re going to take that red number down, because this is great news. Bell Glade, Florida, a brand new Chairman’s Circle member, 12,000 dollars. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Awesome! Thank you! GORDON ROBERTSON: That brings it down to 108. We’re down to 10,000 a minute we need, so please, go to the phone and call us: 1-800-759-0700. We need that red number continually going down for the next ten minutes, so please call us right now: 1-800-759-0700. Well, for more than a decade, Pastor Matthew preached in his Hindu village with few results. Then in just one day, more than 100 villagers came to him to be baptized. Here is what made the difference. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * PASTOR MATTHEW ANDREW KNOX: More than 15 years ago, Pastor Matthew moved to Udaipur, a devout Hindu area of India, to preach the Gospel. It proved to be very dangerous for him and his family. Pastor Matthew: They told us that we shouldn’t have come here. They would throw stones at us. Some people even said they were going to burn our motorcycle and kill us. ANDREW KNOX: Pastor Matthew stayed. He prayed for a way to reach out to them. Then, Operation Blessing heard about his ministry and his dedication. They knew the villages in that area desperately needed clean drinking water and medical care. Over the next four years, Operation Blessing dug 136 wells and conducted 45 medical camps in Udaipur. Pastor Matthew: When they asked us, “Why are you doing all this?” we teach them, we tell them that we are commanded by the love of Jesus Christ to do this. ANDREW KNOX: The kindness shown by Operation Blessing and Pastor Matthew opened the hearts of many villagers. Pastor Matthew: Since Operation Blessing’s Living Waters and medical teams came, I have seen a big difference. Now, when I enter a village, they welcome me and call me brother. They ask me to come to their homes, so they can talk and pray with me. ANDREW KNOX: Many people in this area of India have asked Jesus to be their Savior. In one day, Pastor Matthew baptized more than 100 people. Man: After the pastor prayed, we were given a well. Then my wife and I found peace in our home. That’s why I want to learn more about Jesus. Then I accepted Him as my Savior. Pastor Matthew: Through God’s grace, we now have over 500 prayer groups. We have been able to transform the lives of many people. I thank my Lord Jesus Christ. I cannot express in words how happy I am. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON ROBERTSON: What an incredible thing to happen. It’s when you come in with the love of Jesus Christ in very tangible ways. And when you show love, in doing that, it just seems to just automatically, people just start to respond. You can be a part of this. You can be a part of everything we’re doing around the world. A portion of every gift to The 700 Club goes into the work of CBN WorldReach to preach the Gospel around the world. Another portion goes into the work of Operation Blessing, to do it in very tangible ways, ways people can feel and understand. If you want to be a part of it, call us right now: 1-800-759-0700. We’re asking you to join The 700 Club. If we can get the red number up, we’ve got 82,000 dollars left in a tremendous 300,000 dollar challenge. We’re going down to the wire on this. We need to hear from you, so call us right now. If I can get a drum roll, we’ve got some great news. Alvarado, Texas, a Founder increasing, 6,000 dollars. And they’re doing it through Pledge Express. Here is another one doing it through Pledge Express from Hewlett, Texas, a Founder doubling to Chairman’s Circle, 10,200. All of that gets matched and doubled. We’re down to 63,000 on a 300,000 dollar challenge. Call us right now: 1-800-759-0700. Terry. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Well, last month, heavy rains flooded riverbanks and dams all over Atlanta. And with little warning, thousands of people literally lost everything they owned. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * WILLIE AND TONI HUNT DORY NISSEN: When torrential rain recently caused rivers to flood their banks in the Atlanta area, many residents found themselves trapped in their homes. Willie and Toni Hunt were rescued when the water rose to the second story. Toni Hunt: We called 911 and told them by that time we needed boats. It was so high already. It was flash. It just came in so fast. DORY NISSEN: The water continued to rise to the second level. Willie Hunt: So we’re looking at approximately 15 to 20 feet of water. DORY NISSEN: Days later, the Hunts had a mess on their hands with no way to clean it up. Willie Hunt: At that point, I was very, very frustrated. I was about to give up. I was to the point that I was overwhelmed with all the work that had to be done. DORY NISSEN: Operation Blessing Disaster Relief director Jody Harrington offered to help. Jody Harrington: We were able to tell them that we would send a volunteer team over to help clean their house, not just next week, but tomorrow, which is today. And so you could just see literally the weight of the world come off of their shoulders. Willie Hunt: Everything ya’ll are doing, man, ya’ll just don’t know. We didn’t know how we were going to get all this done. I actually cried, because I didn’t see how we were going to do it. DORY NISSEN: Operation Blessing teamed up with volunteers from the Masters Commission in Atlanta and moved into affected neighborhoods to help. Within hours, the volunteers had cleaned out Willie and Toni’s entire first floor and cut out the waterlogged drywall. Then they moved to the second floor. Operation Blessing moved all the salvageable furniture, discarded what could not be saved and pulled up the ruined carpet before mold could set in, preventing even more damage. And when the staff noticed that Toni’s Bible had been ruined in the flood, Operation Blessing gave her another one. Toni Hunt: Oh, my God. Woman: So that’s from Operation Blessing and The 700 Club. Toni Hunt: Oh, my. You guys have been so good to me, so good to me. Willie Hunt: I’m overwhelmed with only joy. No sadness here in these tears. It’s all joy, for the Lord, because the Lord did it. Toni Hunt: Hallelujah! Hallelujah! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TERRY MEEUWSEN: Reaching out to people in need. It’s what we’re supposed to do as the family of God. So if you’d like to be a part of that, if you’d like to know the kind of satisfaction and joy that comes from knowing you can touch someone’s life at a time like that, join with us, won’t you: 1-800-759-0700. Gordon. GORDON ROBERTSON: Okay, if we can get the red number up, 46,000 left in a 300,000 dollar challenge. And we’re going to take that all the way down to 36, because from Fresno, California, we have a Founder. And I love this note: “Very excited to increase to Chairman’s Circle.” TERRY MEEUWSEN: That’s it. They get it. GORDON ROBERTSON: Doubling, 10,000 dollars. Four minutes to go. We need to hear from you. We want to go over the top on a 300,000 dollar challenge, so call us right now: 1-800-759-0700. Let’s go to Wendy at the phones. Wendy. WENDY GRIFFITH: Thanks, Gordon. Well, if you’re anything like me, you’ve been asking God for help with your finances. Well, the good news is God loves you so much and He cares about you and your money. And He wants you to prosper. That’s what the Bible says. Well, we want to help you do that with Pat’s new teaching called Right on the Money, financial advice for tough times. We’re in the middle of a 300,000 dollar challenge right now. That means that every dollar that you call in right now will be matched dollar for dollar. Where are you going to get a deal like that in this economy? So this is a great deal. You will be so blessed when you help others. Gordon. GORDON ROBERTSON: All right, 29,000. We’re going to take it down. Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, a 700 Club member says, “I want to give at Founder,” 5,000 dollars, a one time gift. That is wonderful. That is taking us down to 22,000 with two minutes and 19 seconds. This is a squeaker. We need to hear from you. Call us right now: 1-800-759-0700. Well, the couple in this next story had a sick child and no money to pay for the operation. So they sent a text message to a stranger and got a different kind of help that saved the baby’s life. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * NOVA’S BABY KEN HULME: Nova and Andre’s first child was just one month old when they noticed that his navel was getting larger. Andre: We were very concerned. It grew to a size of an adult thumb. KEN HULME: So Nova and Andre took their baby to the hospital. There he was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia. Their doctor urged them to have it surgically repaired right away. Nova: I was afraid. I could not imagine that my baby had to go through a surgery. KEN HULME: Nova called her sister to ask for prayer. Her sister then sent a text message to CBN’s Prayer Counseling Center in Indonesia asking them for prayer as well. As the couple made plans for the surgery, they continued to ask CBN to pray with them for their baby’s healing. That’s when it happened. Over a two-week period, the herniated navel started to shrink until it was completely gone. The baby’s doctor was very surprised. Doctor: From my experience, this is something that rarely happens, but in Ken’s case, it was gone in only a couple of weeks. Andre: Ken’s hernia healed by itself. No medication, no operations. Nova: I sent a text message to thank CBN. I wanted them to know the impact they made on us and so many people to rejoice with us that their prayers were answered. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON ROBERTSON: Rejoicing their prayers were answered. We need that red number up, 10,000 dollars, 30 seconds. We’re going to count everything on the phones. It’s down to six. It’s down to five. Let’s go over to Kristi at the phones right now. Kristi. KRISTI WATTS: Hey, Gordon, you know what’s so cool? When you become a 700 Club partner, we want to give you this, Right on the Money, financial advice for tough times. You’re going to love it. It’s going to change your life. It’s wonderful, and it’s yours when you call to become a 700 Club partner. So call in right now. Gordon. GORDON ROBERTSON: All right, we’re down to the wire, and we have got some great news. Let’s get a drum roll. Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, a Founder through Pledge Express monthly gifts, 5,000 dollars. And that takes us way over the top. I thought. It should take us higher than that, but anyway. This was a squeaker. I think we have problems with our math. TERRY MEEUWSEN: There you go. It’s coming. It’s coming. GORDON ROBERTSON: We had a 300,000 dollar challenge, and against that you gave 302. Wow. We leave you with these words from Romans 13, “Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves has fulfilled the law.” God bless you. We’ll see you again. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * END SPOT A: PAT ENDORSEMENT PAT ROBERTSON: The world’s financial landscape is rapidly changing. The cross was erected 75 years ago in the Mojave Desert as a memorial for World War I veterans. Wanda Sandoz (Takes Care of the Cross): If they can take thi
