UnderWing Transcripts PO Box 16282 Clearwater, Florida 33766 540 455-2333 / UnderWing@underwingtranscripts.com ________________________________________ The 700 Club Daily Broadcast Friday, September 18, 2009 GORDON ROBERTSON: Well, welcome to The 700 Club. The FBI seems to have stopped another terrorist attack. They’re investing a possible al Qaeda cell here in America. TERRY MEEUWSEN: They believe the group was planning an attack against a subway or railway in New York City. Erick Stakelbeck has the story. PLOT ERICK STAKELBECK: Authorities have broken up several homegrown terror cells since 9/11, but some say this one was the most dangerous yet. None of the men currently under investigation in Queens and Denver have been arrested or charged, but a source with knowledge of the situation told CBN News he believes the men have direct links to al Qaeda’s leadership in Pakistan and that they were part of the most serious al Qaeda threat against the US homeland since 2006 when authorities stopped a plot by al Qaeda to blow up airliners traveling from Britain to the United States. Authorities say this man, Najibullah Zazi, had recently traveled to Pakistan. It was his visit to New York City last weekend from Denver to meet with other members of the alleged cell that sparked anti-terror raids of several residences in Queens. Zazi says he is innocent. Najibullah Zazi (Terror Plot Suspect): I have nothing to do with al Qaeda or any link or anything with al Qaeda. ERICK STAKELBECK: Authorities did not find bomb making materials in the New York raids or in a search of Zazi’s apartment outside Denver Wednesday. But they reportedly did uncover maps, bomb making documents, cell phones and 14 brand new backpacks. Suicide bombers in Madrid and London have used backpacks to carry explosives in recent years. Authorities believe this cell was looking to carry out a similar attack on mass transit in New York City. Ray Kelly (NYPD Commissioner): As recently as last year, the city was discussed as a potential target by ranking members of al Qaeda. ERICK STAKELBECK: Security has been beefed up at the city’s rail and subway stations as the investigation continues. Sources say the plot, while big, likely would not have caused carnage on the scale of 9/11, but it has been eight years since al Qaeda last carried out an attack on US soil, and some experts believe the group is anxious to strike again. Erick Stakelbeck, CBN News, Washington. GORDON ROBERTSON: Well, if there was ever a reason to pray for our country, this story is it. And we need to praying for our President, for our Congress and specifically for people in law enforcement, whether that’s in Homeland Security, FBI. We need to be praying for them, that they would have wisdom and discernment. Praise God this was thwarted. There seem to be terror cells in the United States, some of which are homegrown. Lee Webb has the rest of our top stories from the CBN Newsroom. Lee. ACORN FUNDING CUT LEE WEBB: Gordon, the House voted Thursday to stop all federal funding for the community organizing group ACORN. Minority Leader John Boehner proposed the legislation. In the past 15 years, ACORN has received 53 million dollars in federal money. But this week the Senate voted to stop new funding for ACORN’s housing and transportation departments, that after undercover videos in several cities showed a young couple getting advice from ACORN on how to hide an undercover prostitution ring. ACORN has longstanding ties with President Obama. It helped register voters on his behalf last year. So the White House is distancing itself from ACORN, calling the group’s actions unacceptable. On our CBN Newswatch program I talked to Mike Allen of Politico.com and asked him it took the mainstream media so long to pick up on the ACORN story. Mike Allen (Politico): Well, it’s a challenge for the media to find an early warning system to catch on to these stories earlier, because if we aren’t covering stories that people are interested in, they’re going to watch elsewhere. And the media tell us that it’s not an ideological thing, but that these just didn’t break through their filter. And so, Lee, we’re going to have like a good, long look at ACORN. There’s going to be a lot to cover now. But the media does need to look at why it took so long and be sharper next time. LEE WEBB: And definitely a lot to cover there. Allen added that one problem for the Washington media is not being aware of issues that people across the country are talking about. HEALTH CARE AND ABORTION LEE WEBB: Prolife groups are warning the new health care legislation presented by Senator Max Baucus would fund and sometimes mandate abortion coverage. Baucus denies that. He says federal funds would be used only in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother. But prolife groups say loopholes in the proposal would allow subsidies to health plans that cover abortions. And the National Right to Life Committee tells the Catholic News Agency that the Baucus bill would allow the federal government to declare abortion a mandated benefit. CURRICULUM LEE WEBB: Angry parents have filed a lawsuit against a California school district over a gay-friendly curriculum. And the case could have national implications. Here is CBN’s Charlene Israel. CHARLENE ISRAEL: Parents who oppose the Alameda Unified School District's pro-homosexual curriculum recently filed a lawsuit against the school district, saying they are concerned about indoctrination in the schools. The lessons include a set of six 45-minute teachings on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered lifestyles, and will be taught once a year to students in grades K-5. Course materials include a children's book called And Tango Makes Three, about homosexual penguins trying to create a family. Administrators say the course is needed to protect against sexual discrimination and that the lessons are protected by laws in California and ten other states. CBN News spoke with Brad Dacus of the Pacific Justice Institute about the impact this case could have on other school districts. GRAPHIC: ON THE PHONE Brad Dacus (Pacific Justice Institute): If this school district is successful in implementing this program and not allowing parents to opt their children out, this would be a strong encouragement for school districts not only throughout California but throughout the rest of the country to try to do the same thing. It would also possibly encourage other states to adopt other anti-family, pro-homosexual indoctrination programs in public schools. CHARLENE ISRAEL: Parents in the district were refused the right to opt their kids out of the classes that would teach all kids in elementary schools about alternative families. Pastor Dion Evans is one of many speaking out against the curriculum. Pastor Dion Evans (Opponent of LGBT Curriculum): If, in defiance of sound reason and fairness to all students and parents, this curriculum is adopted tonight, it will cause a strong reaction. Instead of bringing us together and healing divisions, it will cause even greater division, alienation and suspicion. CHARLENE ISRAEL: Meanwhile, the school district did not respond to our requests for an interview. Charlene Israel, CBN News. PRISONS LEE WEBB: Faith is proving to be a powerful crime fighter in the state of Texas. That state has 156,000 people behind bars. And within three years of their release, nearly half are back. But as Carolyn Castleberry reports, one prison is changing those statistics by changing the hearts of hardened criminals. CAROLYN CASTLEBERRY: At a maximum security prison in Tennessee Colony, Texas, the E wing is where bad guys come to become better men. Man: It ain’t much. It’s six by nine. That’s about it. And our bunks are right here. CAROLYN CASTLEBERRY: The prison is called Beto Unit, where 100 tiny cells are stacked three floors high. It seems like any other cellblock, until the men start talking. Man: You can either be running or you can be following God, one or the other. If you’re running, you ain’t going to make it. CAROLYN CASTLEBERRY: E wing is the faith-based cellblock, one of two at the prison that are trying to use faith to get 400 hardened convicts to change. Reverend Casey Miner leads the program. Reverend Casey Miner (To Prisoner): Have you changed your mind about things in the last couple of years? CAROLYN CASTLEBERRY: To get into E wing, the inmates promise to obey strict rules and practice their religion. Casey and a team of volunteers spend time, earn trust and teach that faith is the antidote for a life of crime. Three nights a week they meet for lessons in the chapel. Reverend Casey Miner (Preaching): We live in a society that tends to want to blame someone else for all their problems in life. “I was an abused child.” But who made the decision to act out under the pressure of those influences? You did. (Interviewing): Very often, we tell them, “Your best thinking got you here. You’ve got to find a way to change that. CAROLYN CASTLEBERRY: Living together on E wing, they try to drop the macho “me first” attitude that makes prison so dangerous. In two years of security sweeps, the guards have yet to find one single weapon. Man: On regular wings, because I’ve done Bible study and stuff like that, it is real hard to stay focused, because you’re so distracted by all the gambling and all the stuff that goes on in penitentiary life. And so this here really gives you a chance. CAROLYN CASTLEBERRY: In the two years the program has been in existence, there have only been five major rule infractions, four of them for tobacco use. Even better, 46 men have been released on parole, and only one has returned. Man: I think that some want to change themselves. They have the opportunity for change, and I believe that some of them take advantage of that opportunity. CAROLYN CASTLEBERRY: The opportunity to show that faith works, even on the hardest hearts. Carolyn Castleberry, CBN News. LA PRAYER RULING LEE WEBB: A Florida principal and an athletic director have been cleared of criminal charges for praying. The two men prayed at a fundraiser with private donors for the Pace High School athletic program near Pensacola. They were accused of violating a federal court order banning school officials from leading prayers at school-related events. But the judge ruled in this case the prayer was spontaneous, and there was no intent to violate the order. The two school officials had faced six months in jail, 5,000 dollars in fines and the loss of their retirement benefits. One amazing part, though, of this story, Gordon, was the hundreds of people who showed up at that federal courthouse yesterday in support of these two men. They even withstood a torrential rainstorm that swept through there. And one can’t help but wonder if the judge didn’t notice that. GORDON ROBERTSON: Well, I actually think he didn’t notice it. And for me, the fact that you have to go to a federal courthouse to protest is just beyond belief. Here are the facts of this case: you have two school officials who are at a fundraising dinner. It’s a thank you banquet for the people that made it possible to build a new athletic facility. This banquet is being held in a church. It is not a student function. It’s a donor function. Students were present, because the school has a culinary program, and so the students were cooking the meal. One turns to the other and says, “Let’s bless the food.” That’s what happened here. And for that you’re hauled into federal court. You’re facing six months in jail, a 5,000 dollar fine and the loss of your pension. Something is unbelievably wrong with this, not just a little bit, but whatever happened to our First Amendment rights that we have free exercise of religion? To pray over a meal, you’re going to go to jail? That’s what this case was about. And yes, you can applaud, okay, the right ruling. But just think of the thousands spent in legal fees. This school district has spent over 500,000 dollars of taxpayer money defending this kind of lawsuit. And you want to talk about getting my blood boiling. This will get your blood boiling. And you say we’ve got to be out of our minds. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Yes. But one thing that is encouraging in the midst of this as we see more and more of this kind of insanity happening around the country is I think people are fed up. They are showing up, and hats off to them. Whether you’re showing up at the federal court or in Washington, DC, you need to do that. You need to stand up, make your voice be heard, make the phone call, make the drive. Be there. GORDON ROBERTSON: The other thing is they got turned in by a school board member. You can’t say grace? Anyway. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Anyway. Moving on, today is Friday, and up next we’ve got some great ways to entertain your family without spending a dime. GRAPHIC: FUN FOR FREE How to have fun for free, when we come back. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SPOT 1: GOLDLINE Jay Johnson (Former Director US Mint): All you have to do is read a newspaper or watch TV to know our investments and our savings have lost value in this tough economy. And no one knows how long this will last. Hi, I’m Jay Johnson, former director of the US Mint. I supervised our nation’s gold supply, and I’m often asked why I buy gold. I buy gold, because it helps protect against inflation and huge government spending. Gold offers diversity in a bad economy, and it’s a safe haven asset that has never dropped to zero. In fact, did you know gold prices have tripled since 2001 and may reach new record highs because of inflation and the falling dollar? Make gold part of your portfolio. Darryl Strawberry: He would beat the crap out of us and tell us, “You’re never going to be nothing.” GORDON ROBERTSON: . . . . about one of the biggest names in baseball. Darryl Strawberry: They thought I was bigger than life and nobody could tell me nothing. GORDON ROBERTSON: Darryl Strawberry talks about fighting cancer . . . . Darryl Strawberry: The doctor said, “Is this amazing?” And I say, “Amazing.” GORDON ROBERTSON: . . . . and fighting God. Darryl Strawberry: It’s either I was going to answer this call or I was going to die. GORDON ROBERTSON: Next week on The 700 Club. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON ROBERTSON: Americans spend 40 billion dollars a year on recreation. But in today’s economy, more and more families are looking for ways to cut that cost. Here is reporter Paul Strand with some ideas for fun that are also free. FOCUS: 99 WAYS TO ENTERTAIN YOUR FAMILY PAUL STRAND: Even in these tough times, the average American family is still budgeting almost 900 dollars for vacationing this year. The thinking seems to be you need to get up and get really far away to get a really good time. Families will spend a small fortune to come and enjoy beautiful wilderness like this here in Oregon. But there is an author who lives nearby here who says families can have plenty of fun for free. And he means free. Sisters, Oregon author Mack Thomas has written 99 Ways to Entertain Your Family for Free! And he's quick to point out free doesn't have to mean cheap in quality. In fact, he says the highest quality entertainment for a family comes . . . . Mack Thomas (Author, 99 Ways to Entertain Your Family for Free!): In simple surroundings where you're really focused on each other. PAUL STRAND: And he promises you will save big if you replace paid entertainment with his ideas. Mack Thomas: About 3,000 dollars for an average family. PAUL STRAND: The Burton family in Oregon City already practices Thomas' main principle: no matter what you do, make sure it gets the family interacting and growing as a family. Now let's start out imagining those cold, cloudy, wet days when you really need to stay inside. Many of those happen here in western Oregon. Thomas' first rule: get away from the TV and the computer. Mack Thomas: It's just much more healthy for us to really be involved in the kinds of things that get us thinking together, talking together, sharing together and laughing together. PAUL STRAND: Have a board game marathon, everyone pulling out their favorite game and playing them all. To mix it up, let the person who picked that game change one major rule. Get out the family photo books and reminisce. Share family history. Make a family tree with a photo for everyone on it. Divvy pictures up into fun categories: weirdest, coolest, most embarrassing, happiest. The point is to share time and create your own good times. Mack Thomas: If the kids are smaller, maybe it's just playing dress-up or maybe pulling out the blankets from the closet and building a tent over the dining room furniture or the living room furniture. Those are the kinds of things that really get you interacting and having fun together, and you'll remember them all your life. PAUL STRAND: If you just have to turn on the TV, here's a way to make it extremely interactive. Put on a movie, mute the sound and make up the dialogue yourselves. The cheesier the movie, the better. Make Hollywood wish you had been the screenwriters. And this was a law in Thomas’ family: no one could ever say they were bored. Mack Thomas: Whatever the surrounding is, there's something you can do to have fun with what's around you. PAUL STRAND: Then there are the sunnier times, like those fall days when it’s warm enough to escape the house and enjoy the big outdoors. Grab neighbor kids and hold a mini-Olympics. Come up with all your own competitions, the wackier the better. Run backward all the way around the house. Toss everyone's stuffed animals in wagons and take them for an expedition. Here's a good one for getting your kids to think about others: do secret good deeds, like gathering up litter or fixing something a neighbor needs repaired behind their back. Camp out in the backyard. Sleep there. Cook there. Eat there. And if you have some woods or waters nearby, go to them often. Enjoy them. Let them change you. Mack Thomas: It's healthy and it's humbling just to see who you are in the context of God's big beautiful earth and the vastness of His universe. PAUL STRAND: Study the plants, the animals, the rocks, the stars. And write your own family history a day at a time. Thomas says one of the best things his family did was keep a daily family journal. Mack Thomas: And every day at dinnertime we would make that a little ritual, and now those books with all those memories written in them are such a treasure. PAUL STRAND: If you can’t afford a fancy vacation, you may think you have to splurge on stay-cations to make them really fun. But it turns out your biggest profits can come from doing the things that have no price tag at all. And because they're free, you can do them any time at all. So think about it. You can have happier kids, stronger family ties, a better outlook on life, and while reaping all of these rewards, saving a few thousand dollars in the process. Paul Strand, CBN News, reporting from Oregon. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON ROBERTSON: I wish I was with Paul at that stream right now. That looked really nice. TERRY MEEUWSEN: That stream looked very nice. GORDON ROBERTSON: We did an exercise recently in my family where we wanted to find out what our children thought of their grandparents. And it was really incredible their takeaways and what they thought. And it’s all based on their playtime with them. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Did you share that with your folks, then? GORDON ROBERTSON: No, I haven’t yet. I’m sort of—maybe I shouldn’t do this on national TV. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Yes. Maybe not. GORDON ROBERTSON: It’s interesting how they perceive and what are their takeaways. And their best takeaways are always from the playtime with their grandparents. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Isn’t that one of the things they say about grandparents is that the greatest gift they have to give their grandchildren is they have time. They have time. So it is a special thing. Well, still ahead, a dying woman who took a sudden turn for the better. Woman: They said miraculously my mom started breathing on her own that night. The chills up my spine. And they couldn’t explain it. TERRY MEEUWSEN: See why this woman is walking and talking, later on today’s 700 Club. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * SPOT 2A: CURVES Announcer: So you finally decided that it’s the right time for you to lose weight. It’s going to kick off our Seven Days Ablaze, our week of prayer for our partners and for the ministry of CBN. GRAPHIC: CBN CELEBRATES ROSH HASHANAH LIVE WEBCAST ON CBN.COM 7PM FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18TH If you’re in the Hampton Roads area, we invite you to come. Make sure you bring a blanket or a folding chair, because we’re anticipating we’re going to run out of chairs. It’s going to be outside, but we encourage you to come in. There’s a Paul Wilbur concert. We’re going to have dancers and banners and flags. And we’re going to celebrate the new year, Rosh Hashanah, the head of the year. And we’re going to be praying and praising God to start the new year. I think it’s time to just really focus in on prayer for Israel. This is Rosh Hashanah. This is the ten days, high holy days, leading into Yom Kippur. And it’s a time of introspection. It’s a time of confession of sin. It’s a time of prayer and intercession. It’s time to remember God. It’s time to remember God. It’s time to remember His great promises. And as we pray for Israel, let’s keep in mind the promises that God has for Israel. And here it is from Psalm 119. It’s one of the great foundations for prayer, . . . . GRAPHIC: Psalms 119:49 (NKJV) Remember the word to Your servant, Upon which You have caused me to Hope. . . . . “Remember the word to your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope.” When I pray, I like to find the promise in the Bible. And keep in mind that all the promises of God are yes and amen for those who are in Christ Jesus. So if you find a promise, you can say to that, “That’s yes and amen for me, and I can pray that one in.” When Daniel prayed in captivity in Babylon, he said, “I understood from the scrolls of Jeremiah, I understood that the time had been fulfilled.” And then, instead of just saying, “Well, because there was this prophecy of 70 years, we’re just going to expect it to happen,” he began to pray, and he began to intercede, and intercede on behalf of all of Israel. And his first intercession was to pray for forgiveness, and then he went into, “Remember. Remember the Word. Allow us to come back to the land.” Here’s what he based that prayer on. You find it in Jeremiah 29:10, . . . . GRAPHIC: Jeremiah 29:10-14(NKJV) For thus says the LORD: After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place. . . . . “For thus says the Lord, ‘After seventy years are completed at Babylon, I will visit you and perform My good word toward you, and cause you to return to this place.’” So here Jeremiah, before the captivity is prophesied, “After 70 years, I’m going to remember and cause you to return.” And then God goes on, . . . . GRAPHIC: Jeremiah 29:11-12 (NKJV) For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. . . . . “’ For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,’ says the Lord, ‘thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.’” That’s what Daniel was doing. He was saying, “Many will call upon Me and go to pray to Me, and I will listen.” And then God says, . . . . GRAPHIC: Jeremiah 29:13-14 (NKJV) And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the LORD, and I will bring you back from your captivity . . . . . . . “’ And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you,’ says the LORD, ‘and I will bring you back from your captivity.” These are wonderful promises, and they’re promises for you and me, because we are in Christ Jesus. God has plans for each one of us. God wants to deliver each one of us. God doesn’t take pleasure in anyone perishing. He wants all to come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. That’s what He wants. But it’s up to us to pray that in. The key to revival, number one, is prayer. It’s when God’s people are stirred enough to pray in the promises. Now, more than ever, we need to praying for Israel. We need to be praying for revival for Israel, praying that the Holy Spirit would visit Israel. We need to be praying for peace in the Middle East. We need to be praying for America. How far have we gone away? How much have we forgotten of what we once knew about the Lord? Now, is it going to take financial captivity for us to really turn and understand and seek Him with all of our hearts? Let’s do that, and let’s agree today that at Rosh Hashanah we’re going to be reminding God of the promises and reminding ourselves, and then coming before Him in intercession, just as Daniel did, confessing the sins, confessing the sins of all Israel, confessing the sins of America and saying, “We’ve turned away from God.” God hasn’t given up on us, but have we given up on Him? And as Christians, are we stirred in our innermost being to pray? Let me challenge you. It was a challenge I got from a pastor on a Sunday morning. If we don’t pray, who will? Do you think unbelievers are going to pray? Who is going to pray? Who is going to ask God? Who is going to say, “Thy will be done, Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven?” Who is going to pray in the promises? Well, we’re going to be praying. All next week, we’re going to set aside a time every single show to be praying. Join with us. We also have something on My.CBN.com where you can join in with prayer. We’re asking people to pray for CBN. If you have prayer requests that you want people to pray for, we’d be glad to pray for them. GRAPHIC: FOR MORE INFORMATION LOG ON TO CBN.COM All you have to do is log on and post them. There is also a way you can e-mail us prayers. We want to be praying for you. We want you to be praying for us. And together we need to be praying for the peace of Jerusalem, and we also need to be praying for America. We’ve got a great story for you now about the power of prayer. After Donna Lane’s car accident, doctors gave her no chance to live. But there’s one thing the doctors didn’t count on: Donna’s praying family and friends. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * DONNA LANE DEBBIE WHITE: On August 17, 2003, Donna Lane was driving on a wet highway in southern Florida. Her car hit a slippery patch, skidded into oncoming traffic, and overturned. When the emergency medical crew arrived, Donna was in a near-death coma and non-responsive. She couldn’t breathe, so a tube was placed in her lungs. First responders could detect only a faint blood pressure reading, and she was hemorrhaging from massive injuries to her brain and abdomen. Donna was transported by helicopter to the hospital where emergency surgeries kept her alive. She also suffered a stroke because of the trauma. Doctors gave Donna a tracheotomy and put her on life support with little hope of recovery. Soon, her children arrived at the hospital. Tracey Kearney (Donna’s Daughter): We went to the nurse and she brought us into the room to see my mom, and it was just utterly devastating. It’s like, “God, what happened? This can’t be my mother.” DEBBIE WHITE: Her daughter, Tracey, learned that both arteries in Donna’s neck were severed. Tracey Kearny: The doctor explained to us, in his 20 years of practice, had never witnessed anybody have two torn carotid arteries without a full decapitation. It just sits with you and you say, “Will she ever be the same?” And that’s when they started telling us, “No.” DEBBIE WHITE: On the fourth day, Donna’s family met with her doctors. Tracey Kearny: They said, “You know, we need to take her off the respirator if she doesn’t show any significant signs, basically, by tomorrow. I knew in my heart that my mom was not going. God was not taking my mother at this point. To me, if felt like He would have already taken her. DEBBIE WHITE: Donna’s family refused to give up. They sang songs and hung pictures around her room, hoping for the best. Tracey Kearny: This is in the ICU where they keep everything just mundane and not a lot of visitors. And here we are with this full family support, church support, everybody just rotating as much as we can. My mom was never alone. One of the doctors was point-blank with me and said, “You need to stop.” And I was just, “Stop what?” And he said, “This is false hope. You’re creating false hope.” And I know they took me as the guidance to my family and my younger siblings. And I said, “Well, we don’t have false hope. We have faith.” DEBBIE WHITE: When morning came and the doctors were to remove life support, there was amazing news. Tracey Kearny: They said, miraculously, my mom started breathing on her own that night. Ooh, the chills in my spine. And they couldn’t explain it. DEBBIE WHITE: Three weeks after the accident, Donna opened her eyes. The next week she was moving her extremities. From there, every small achievement became monumental. Still, doctors were not hopeful. Tracey Kearny: As we progressed to each stage, they still would give us the scenario that this could be it and this is where she will be for the rest of her life. DEBBIE WHITE: In spite of the doctors’ grim prognosis, little by little, Donna’s condition improved. She began to speak and move with better and better control. On September 24th, she was transferred to a special care facility. Tracey Kearny: Now it was just start therapy and really help her get integrated back into life. As we started to bring Mom to rehab, we just thought, “Thank you, Jesus. We know we’re on our way to recovery.” DEBBIE WHITE: Just three months after her accident, Donna came home, just in time for Thanksgiving! Tracey Kearny: My mom’s first Thanksgiving after the accident was such a blessing. We were so thankful that she was home. That was her goal. She would tell everybody in rehab, “I’ll be home for Thanksgiving.” DEBBIE WHITE: Today, Donna is full of life. She enjoys her family and gives thanks to God. Donna Lane: Back then, I couldn’t even stand up. It was a task to sit up straight, to move. I couldn’t move like this. I mean, I shook, but I couldn’t move. I remember laying in my bed saying, “God, stop this arm from shaking.” I’d lay on it and be like this, “Please stop it from shaking,” because my whole bed shook. But as you can see today, no shaking. Thank you Jesus. DEBBIE WHITE: Donna now lives on her own and drives wherever she needs to go. She’s enrolled in college and has a 4.0 grade point average. She’s earning a business management degree. Donna Lane: I believe I’m a miracle, and I thank Jesus for it. Tracey Kearny: We just can’t believe that our mom is here and healthy and independent, which they said she would never be independent. Donna Lane: As I walk today and I have use of my limbs and they don’t shake erratically, I am ecstatic. I am so thankful to Jesus, because, without Him, we couldn’t do anything. Nothing. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * HOSTS PRAY FOR NEEDS GORDON ROBERTSON: Well, with Him we can do all things. All things. What an incredible miracle. The power of prayer. Now, we’re going to be praying for you. Before we pray, we want to encourage you with some other people who have had miracles, answers to prayer. Here’s Leona of Duluth, Georgia. She was having trouble in her right leg. It was difficult for her to move freely, turn her body. Sometimes she even had to hop on one foot when she walked. Last month, she was listening to The 700 Club. Terry, you had a word of knowledge about someone who could not freely move. You said God was loosening the body. Well, Leona began moving around. And she has felt no pain, and she has been pain free every since. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Wow. Wow. Well, this is Barbara, who lives in Gloucester, Virginia. For 30 years, she had problems with kidney stones. Last May she began to suffer pain from the largest stone she had ever developed, and x-rays showed it was the size of a one carat diamond. None of the conventional treatments helped, so she made an appointment to discuss surgery. The day before that appointment, she received a phone call from her mother. Her mom had just heard you, Gordon, give a word of knowledge about someone having tremendous pain from a kidney stone. And you said that God was dissolving the stone right away. So Barbara, hearing this from her mother, received the word for herself. When she saw the doctor the next day, x-rays showed that the stone had completely gone, and she has not had any trouble since. GORDON ROBERTSON: Share the word. It’s incredible what happens. The Lord is not limited. He is not limited. I’m always amazed. Here is somebody watching this show. They got it, and they call them up on the phone. I’ve heard of people e-mailing it. I’ve heard of people watching on the Internet. I’ve heard of delayed broadcasts. The word is powerful. It’s powerful. When God speaks, it’s powerful. It does return void. It doesn’t return void. It has the power to do, actually hunt down the people that it’s intended for. Jesus goes to seek and to save the lost. He sends out His Word. He is the Word. All we have to do is believe it. That’s all we have to do. So right now, just believe it. Here is His Word. It’s from Psalm 103, “He forgives all your iniquities. He heals all your diseases.” What you’re praying for right now, is it part of all? The only thing that will block it is your unforgiveness. So if you have ought against anyone, let them go. Set them free. Forgive them. Forgive them. And in that process, you get set free. You get set free. And God will shine His face upon you and give you peace, give you shalom, wholeness, wellness. So do that right now. And now let’s pray. In an act of faith, lay your hand on that area of the body that needs healing. Terry and I will agree, and we’ll claim this wonderful scripture: “If two or more agree touching anything, it shall be done.” Pray with us. “Lord, we just lift the needs of the audience to you. And as people are laying hands on that area of the body that needs healing, we just come into agreement with them right now. And we say out loud, be healed and be made whole. By the authority given to us as believers in Jesus Christ, we command sickness now to leave. All authority was given to Him, and He has commanded us to go and preach the good news, to heal the sick. So we claim that authority now.” There is a woman, you’re actually holding both hands. It’s like your laying hands. One hand is laying on the other. You’re praying for arthritis, and it’s really bad. You’ve got very swollen knuckles, and it’s very difficult for you. You can even button a button. God is healing that right now. He is restoring motion to it right now. And there is a woman, Edith, God has heard your heart cry. He is going to provide. He’s going to provide financially. He’s going to provide your need according to His riches and glory. Terry. TERRY MEEUWSEN: I believe that there are many people who are suffering from various skin issues, some as severe acne. You’ve had pitting and scarring from the acne. Nothing you do makes it go away. God is healing that. Others, you have psoriasis. Some have like a problem with cracking and bleeding on your feet. God is touching and healing skin diseases. Just receive that for yourself now. GORDON ROBERTSON: There’s someone, you’ve had a long problem with curvature in the spine. It’s like your spine is an S. It goes to the left at the top and goes to the right at the bottom. And God is going to realign. He’s realigning right now. You’re actually feeling it move. In Jesus’ name, be healed. Let that back be made whole now. Yea. Someone else with TMJ in your right jaw, and it goes deep into your ear. And all that pain is leaving you now. You’re being healed now to the glory of God. TERRY MEEUWSEN: Someone else, you have a slipped disc, lots of pain in your back. God is healing that for you and literally moving everything back into place, even putting the cushion in there that needs to be there to stop the pain. Thank you, God. GORDON ROBERTSON: There’s a woman, you’re literally talking to your TV right now, saying, “Please say sciatica.” So, sciatica is being healed right now, in your right leg. All that pain is leaving it right now, in the name of Jesus. All of that is gone. Someone else, you heard right leg, and you’re saying, “Please say left leg.” So God is healing your left leg now. Call, and He will answer you. Cry out to Him. He will be your healer. He will. Just have faith in Him and believe right now that you have received. And for all those who have not heard of a word of knowledge, we give your word, that you can lay hands on the sick and they shall recover, that you heal all diseases. So in Jesus’ name, be healed and be made whole. Amen. Amen. If you’ve been touched by God, we want to share in your good report. Call us: 1-800-759-0700. That’s right, after nine years of blindness, Kay Thornton has her sight back, the result of a surgical procedure originated in Italy. Surgeons implanted a sliver of Kay’s own tooth into her eye to replace her damaged cornea. The tooth holds a tiny cylinder that acts as a plastic window in the front of her eye. Doctors use teeth because they’re rigid and aren’t rejected by the body. The procedure was the first of its kind in the US and was a complete success. Kay says the first thing she wants to see now are her children and grandbabies. OB HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK LEE WEBB: CBN’s Operation Blessing took part in the National Day of Service on the eighth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. The aid groups partnered with the Home Depot to help victims of flooding in Norfolk, Virginia. About 60 volunteers from 12 area Home Depot stores partnered with Operation Blessing to clean out and rebuild the devastated homes. Operation Blessing was one of the first aid groups to respond after those devastating floods about a month ago. You can find out more about what’s going on with Operation Blessing by going to their web site. It’s OB.org. And today they give away more money than they used to make in a year. Here’s the secret that helps them multiply their money. CARL AND VALERIE REGISTER ANDREW KNOX: Carl Register loves to play pool, and he knows a lot about pool equipment. So when he started an internet business selling pool cues, he only worked the business in the evenings, thinking he could handle the load. But the business grew so rapidly, that within a couple of years, both Carl and his wife Valerie left their full time jobs to focus on their thriving online business. Valerie Register: I think anyone can do the type of work that we do, if they’re dedicated, willing to work. But to be successful, to really prosper, you have to follow the principles God laid out in His Word. ANDREW KNOX: Valerie is speaking of the principles of tithing and giving. The Registers have practiced them since they were newlyweds. In fact, Carl was so interested in how these principles worked, he literally tested God and recorded his findings. Carl Register: I just wanted to see. I was just curious about it. ANDREW KNOX: Carl increased his usual tithe of ten percent to eleven percent. At the same time, he wrote down all weekly earnings. Carl Register: I decided to give an extra one percent. One percent, to see if anything would happen, and something did happen immediately. ANDREW KNOX: So Carl continued with the test. Carl Register: So I went to 12 percent, instead of 11 percent. And, again, my income increased. I was keeping records. ANDREW KNOX: It came as no surprise when the Registers’ Internet business skyrocketed. Carl Register: I’ve got everything written down showing my income, my incremental increases, and my incremental increases in my income. It just kept going, kept going, kept going. Well, eventually, we were giving 50 percent of what we were making. Now our giving is more than our income was when we started. ANDREW KNOX: One of those places Carl and Valerie give is to CBN. They’ve been faithful partners for over 12 years. Valerie Register: Everywhere that CBN goes, you can see the hand of God in their work, and it gives us an opportunity to be able to promote God’s kingdom and to be able to spread His love and the Good News about Jesus Christ all over the world. ANDREW KNOX: Carl and Valerie believe that the principles of tithing and giving work. To them, it’s not complicated; it’s just being obedient. Carl Register: It just defies logic to think that if I give, it’s going to increase my net worth. It just doesn’t make any sense. Valerie Register: You’ll be surprised and amazed at what God can do. You can’t out-give Him, and He will bless you. He’ll bless you abundantly above and beyond what you would have ever imagined. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TERRY MEEUWSEN: He’ll bless you abundantly, and then you have the honor and the privilege of being able to bless other people. GRAPHIC: 1-800-759-0700 CBN.COM It’s such an amazing thing. When we do it God’s way, there is a whole final product that comes out of that, that blesses everybody. It’s an amazing thing to be a part of. I love the fact that Carl said he just was curious. He wanted to find out whether those promises of God were true, and they were. And they will be for you, too. In fact, he returned to the big leagues only after he made a bargain with God. Well, recently, Shawn Brown talked with Fernando about the deal that changed his life. FERNANDO TATIS SHAWN BROWN: The career of a major league baseball player can be like the changing tide. At least, that’s how it was for New York Mets utility player Fernando Tatis. The slugger from the Dominican Republic made his major league debut in 1997 with the Texas Rangers. And in ten years, he’s had his share of success, but he’s also had his share of injuries and failure. Fernando Tatis: In those difficult moments in my life, I just pray. And I know that God has the answer. SHAWN BROWN: It’s a lesson he learned the hard way. In the beginning, he was riding the wave of success, but after one season with the Rangers, he was traded to the Cardinals, where his career took off. He hit 34 home runs that year, and he has the distinction of being the only major league player to hit two grand slam homeruns in a single inning. Fernando became accustomed to the cheers of the fans, but one night a voice penetrated the roar of the crowd. Fernando Tatis: I remember I hit a double with the bases loaded, the whole stadium going crazy. And I hear someone right next to me that told me, “You see all this glory? Nothing is going to happen if I’m not with you.” I was going, “Wow.” I feel like God was talking to me in that moment. SHAWN BROWN: Fernando was at the top of his game. Because he felt invincible, he didn’t realize his career was about to take a dive. Fernando Tatis: Boom. And I broke my leg. I was not in God’s way, and I broke my leg. And I started asking God why did I break my leg? After that year, I got traded to Montreal, and I said to myself, “Wow, everything is going worse.” Because I was in St. Louis, one of the best teams in the National League. And I go into the best team. Now I’m going to the worst team in the National League, the Montreal Expos. SHAWN BROWN: While he was in Montreal, Fernando suffered other injuries and was eventually released. He tried out for other teams, but there were no takers, so he decided to quit baseball for good and return to the Dominican Republic. While he was there, something interesting happened. Fernando Tatis: It was one night when I was home. My wife told me the day before, “I want you to go to the church with me tomorrow.” And all my family went. I got there late. And that night changed my life forever. SHAWN BROWN: Although Fernando had become a Christian as a child, he rededicated his life to the Lord. Fernando Tatis: God really touched my heart that night. It was amazing. Everything changed. SHAWN BROWN: Fernando was now out of the game, and because of his frustration, he had no intention of returning. In fact for the next two years, he didn’t even pick up a baseball. But the church he was attending at the time was in desperate need of a new building, and he was the only one that could come up with the money. So now Fernando was faced with a very important decision. Fernando Tatis: And God put it on my heart the only way that we can buy the land is just if I come back to baseball one more time and make the money to buy the land. And I said, “Okay, if this is going to be from God, God is going to send somebody here to my house with a contract in his hand.” SHAWN BROWN: And a week later: Fernando Tatis: I received a phone call from the Baltimore Orioles. SHAWN BROWN: Even though Fernando was a bit rusty, he worked his way back to the big leagues. And after two seasons, he earned enough money to build the new church. Today, Fernando is with the New York Mets, and hopes that all who see his life on the field understands one thing. Fernando Tatis: Faith is everything. If you put God in your heart and ask Him, “I want the real deal to follow you,” God is going to answer you. He’s going to support you, a hundred percent. It’s the best relationship ever. More than your wife, your mother, your father. Jesus is going to support you in every moment of your life. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * GORDON ROBERTSON: Wow. It’s the best relationship ever. If you want to start that relationship, all you have to do is call us: 1-800-759-0700. GRAPHIC: 1-800-759-0700 CBN.COM Just say, “I want to pray. I want to ask Jesus into my heart.” What Fernando has learned, you can learn, too. I want the real deal. I don’t want some pretend thing. I want the real deal. So call that number: 1-800-759-0700. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * BRING IT ON GORDON ROBERTSON: We’ve got a few seconds for a Bring It On question. TERRY MEEUWSEN: I’m going to read this fast. This is Mary Jane, who says, “I’ve been a Christian for over 20 years and believe I’ve heard the voice of God, but for the past ten years I have not. It really bothers me, and I’d like to know why. What can I do to get back to where I can hear His voice again?” GORDON ROBERTSON: Boy, Mary Jane, on Tuesday I did on the Internet an hour and a half teaching on how to hear the voice of God and then know that you are. But I think what you’re going through is what they call a dark night of the soul. More than that, you’ve got ten years. Go back. What did you do ten years ago? Did you walk away somehow? Did you not obey somehow? And get rid of that and then start and say, “Jesus, I want to hear your voice. I want to hear it today.” If you ask that, He’ll do it for you. That’s all the time we have. God bless you. We’ll see you again next week.
