President Bush acknowledged today that Americans aren't satisfied with how the war in Iraq is going. The President says he's not satisfied with the situation either. President Bush met with news media today to talk about the war in Iraq, just 13 days away from an election where Americans' dissatisfaction with that war may be a big factor. Bush says that U.S. forces are constantly changing tactics and guarding against getting caught up in an Iraqi civil war. "Americans have no intention of taking sides in a sectarian struggle," the President said, "or standing in the crossfire between rival factions." With many Democrats suggesting that American lives are being wasted in the war in Iraq, Bush said that the U.S. must not let itself fall prey to disillusionment. "The parents of our troops must understand that if I didn't believe we could succeed and didn't believe it was necessary for the security of this country to succeed, I wouldn't have your loved ones there," he said. And, to charges that he's accusing Democrats of being unpatriotic and wanting to cut and run in Iraq, he answered, "I do not question their patriotism. I question whether or not they understand how dangerous this world is." And Bush said it's because of that danger that America must win in Iraq. He said, "If we do not defeat the terrorists or extremists in Iraq, they will gain access to vast oil reserves and use Iraq as a base to overthrow moderate governments across the Middle East. They will launch new attacks on America from this new safe haven." Watch the video, and afterwards be sure the insightful interview with military analyst and retired Army Colonel William Taylor. He answers such thought-provoking questions as whether we need more troops in Iraq and the likelihood of disarming the militias.
