The House of Nine Smiles

CBN.com This is the story of one poor Chinese family, the Wangs, and how they received a tangible expression of hope, all thanks to CBN Partners.

There is nothing that Mr. a Mrs. Wang of Beijing, China, would not do for their five children. They dream of a better future, but for today, they struggle to put food on the table.

“My family is very poor,” says Mrs. Wang. “Sometimes when my children see other kids eating something, they want some, too. But I don’t have the money to buy it. They cry to me and it makes me sad.”

Mr. Wang is a migrant worker who relocated to Beijing in hopes of finding work. But all he could find were odd construction jobs and recycling garbage.

“I now collect the trash to make some money,” he says. “Sometimes I would pick up the food that other people throw away and take it home to my family to eat. I can bear any hardship for my family.”

This tiny apartment houses all nine members of the Wang family, including grandparents and an abandoned baby they found starving in a train station.

“My neighbors all said that I was so silly, for I have so many kids already and we are so poor. But I could not give him up. I was willing to raise him no matter how hard it would be,” says Mrs. Wang.

When the CBN WorldReach staff in China heard about the suffering of the Wang family, they wanted to help. And because education is the only way to a better life in China, CBN provided tuition for four of the eldest children at the nearby Hua Ao Migrant School.

“I am grateful that CBN knows what we need,” says Mrs. Wang. “I thank them and wish them to be happy and healthy.”

On a recent visit to China, Pat Robertson saw the wonderful work of the Hua Ao Migrant School firsthand. This is a school that CBN literally saved from closure four years ago by providing much needed equipment and a brand new computer lab and library.

"These beautiful children that we are able to help have an education and have a future and a hope because you care and Operation Blessing cares," says Dr. Robertson.

As Pat toured the facility, the gratitude of the 1,800 children and their teachers was expressed with signs, smiles, and songs. But nowhere was the gratitude greater than from the Wang family. CBN even helped Mrs. Wang find a job in the school’s cafeteria. Her five children and countless other children of migrant workers now have a brighter future.

Ten-year-old Wang Yahong already knows what she wants to be. “I love music. I want to be a musician when I grow up, so I enjoy the music class,” she says. “My parents cannot afford the tuition, but CBN has helped me and my brothers and sisters with tuition. They have given our family a great help. I want to thank them, and I will pay them back for their kindness.”
