Joy After Heartache

CBN.com --After a house fire took the lives of his daughter and son-in-law, Yesanna and his wife did their best to raise their three grandchildren themselves.

Wiping away tears, Yesanna exclaimed, “I hated life after my daughter’s death.  My wife and I wanted to die.  But we knew there was no one else who could take care of our grandchildren.  I raised goats and sold them to make enough to support us.”

But less than a year later, incessant rains flooded their area in southern India.  Yesanna’s family watched helplessly as their home, goats, and belongings washed away.

Yesanna:  I was devastated.  I didn’t know how I would feed my grandchildren.  I also worried about their studies and their future.

They moved to the city to find work.

Yesanna:  I broke stones for a living.  But I only earned 1 or 2 dollars a day.  My hands hurt so much.  But that was the only way I could buy some food for my grandchildren.

Yesanna is a Christian, so he prayed for help.

Yesanna:  I prayed morning and night, “Dear Jesus, You are the One who sustains us.  We are in trouble.  Please Lord, show us grace and bring us out of this darkness.”

Then CBN heard about Yesanna and his family, along with several other flood victims who had moved to the slum.

Yesanna:  When they said they would give me the goats I had asked for, I couldn’t believe it!  Now I am sure that I will be able to provide my grandchildren with good food and education.

And CBN made sure their grandchildren had what they needed for school.

Yesanna’s young grandson, Chandu, gleefully said, “I was so happy to get bags, books, and pencils.  I give you bunches and bunches of thanks for giving my grandpa the goats.”
