The Paras: Racing God
CBN.com Tara and Kevin Para of Southern California have a passion for motorcycles and racecars. In fact, racing has been a part of their lives since they were both young.
“I remember while the girls were playing I’d be talking with the boys about what cars were cool,” says Tara. “So, I’ve always loved racing and cars. It’s just in my blood.”
“It’s just something that doesn’t go away. It’s always there once you have it. It’s very addictive,” says Kevin.
When Kevin and Tara married and got into business together -- Tara with a brake company and Kevin with plastics -- they never thought they’d have to give up their hobby, but they did.
“It was a decision,” says Tara. “We’re starting a company, money’s tight, and our biggest cutback was racing.”
During this time, one thing the Paras didn’t stop was tithing to their church and giving to The 700 Club.
“Tithing is the only thing that God asks us to test Him on,” says Tara. “It’s just part of our monthly bill paying that we have to do. We gave what was a reasonable portion at that time, even when every month we were having to put our personal income into the company just to get it through to the next month.”
Tara had been watching The 700 Club since she was a child, and she’d been giving to CBN since she was 18.
“It’s great to be a part of something like that and to know that every month we’re building our treasures in heaven and helping people,” says Tara.
“[With CBN] You have to look at the results,” says Kevin. “Look what’s there. It just touches our hearts all the time.”
So Kevin and Tara continued to test God with their giving, and just as they’d expected, He was faithful.
“He’s been blessing us in so many ways, just with the company we’ve started,” Tara says. “It’s more than doubled every year since we started it. At the beginning, that doesn’t mean a lot, but as the numbers get bigger here in the last few years, to double an already big number, it’s incredible.
As the Paras’ profits have increased, their giving has gone up, too.
“I can’t imagine not increasing your giving when God increases what He gives you,” says Tara. “Everything we have is from God and if our business grows or our income grows, it’s from Him. Why wouldn’t we give more of it back to Him?”
For the Paras, it just keeps getting better and better. Two and a half years ago, they were working out of a 45-foot trailer. Today, their business is run from a 25,000-square-foot complex. Everyone has an office, including little Parker who comes to work with Tara every day.
Kevin and Tara are now back on the racetrack, their business is booming, and their hearts are filled with joy. They say it’s all because they’re trusting God with their finances and with their lives.
Kevin says, “He tells us, give unto Me and you’ll be rewarded."
Kevin and Tara saw the rewards of applying the Law of Reciprocity -- "Give and it shall be given to you" -- by giving to CBN.
