The Poisonous Pond

One small pond was the only water source for this village in Nigeria. Every day, Hajara and the other women gathered at the pond and collected water for cooking and drinking. But when the women left, dogs and other animals drank from the stagnant pool. “My son contracted cholera after drinking from this dirty water,” says Hajara.
