Fifteen-year-old Wen Juan of China is a princess in her parents’ eyes. Mr. and Mrs. Tian found her abandoned by a train station.
“I found Wen Juan in a paper box. She didn’t look healthy,” Mr. Tian recalls.
The Tians adopted her anyway. Later they learned that she had a serious heart condition.
Mrs. Tian says, “The first time I knew Wen Juan was different from my other children is when she drank milk. Her face turned purple and green.”
Mr. Tian adds, “She could barely breathe, and she didn’t eat much. When she tried to walk to school, she gasped a lot and had to stop to rest.”
As a teenager, Wen Juan got worse. But Wen Juan’s father knew how much his little princess loved learning, so he carried her back and forth to school every day. Eventually, even that was too much for her to bear. Meanwhile, the whole family pitched in, working every spare minute. They sold their last sheep and cow so Wen Juan could see a doctor.
“They saved every penny they earned just for me,” says Wen Juan. “I love them for that.”
But no one liked what the doctor had to say.
“Most people with this heart disease suffer a long time,” the doctor notes. “If they don’t get surgery, their problem can get worse and worse and ultimately cut the patient’s life short.”
Wen Juan’s family was too poor to pay for surgery. They knew that sooner or later their daughter’s heart would fail. That’s when they learned about CBN. A CBN staff member quickly arranged for Wen Juan to receive free heart surgery.
Mrs. Tian says, “When I heard CBN would give Wen Juan free surgery, we were very happy. We never imagined something like this could happen for our daughter.”
Wen Juan got the surgery she needed and came through with flying colors. Just look at her today. Wen Juan’s heart is completely healed, and she’s getting better and better every day.
“If CBN had not helped Wen Juan, she would have died last year,” Mr. Tian says.
Wen Juan says, “Now, I can walk and play with my friends, and I can do housework for my family.”
“Without your help, we never could have made it,” Mr. Tian exclaims.
Wen Juan would not have the hope, the warm heart, or the bright smile that you see today.
She says, “Thank you for giving me a new life!”
