Ruth Graham: Her Final Destination

Ruth Bell Graham passed away last Thursday after a lengthy illness and was buried over the weekend. The Reverend Billy Graham says he's looking forward to joining his wife in heaven one day. A small space at the foot of a cross-shaped walkway in the prayer garden near North Carolina's Billy Graham Library is the final resting place of Mrs. Graham. Focusing on the Promise of Heaven But over and over this weekend, the Graham family reminded mourners that the plot of earth is not her final destination. Instead, they focused on the promise of heaven. At Saturday's memorial service at Montreat, Rev. Graham expressed his deep love for his wife and how much he misses her. "We were married for nearly 64 years," said the Reverend Billy Graham. "And I wish you could look in that casket because she's so beautiful. I sat there for a long time last night just looking at her and praying because I know she had a great reception in heaven." All the Graham's children spoke at the memorial service. A Life Well Lived "A couple of years ago, I was asked how I would feel when I lost my mother. I remember saying… the response that I would have to give would be 'That day, I would have lost my best friend,'" said daughter Gigi Graham. Back at the library, mourners reminisced on a life well lived and on the impact of the wife and mother many have called the most influential Christian woman of the last century. "You could just tell her faithfulness to God and to her husband. She was truly a giant in her own right," said library visitor Marlon Scott. Starting today, visitors to the new Billy Graham Library in Charlotte will be able to pay their respects at Mrs. Graham's grave.
