Sagemont Church Named Church of the Week

CBN.com Vacation Bible School at Sagemont Church in Houston, Texas, reached almost a thousand children this year.

Heather Douglas says, “Our church is 40 years old and, and we’ve been doing VBS throughout that time and each year VBS grows. This year we had 995 children enrolled in VBS and almost 500 volunteers, which is a great ratio (one leader for 2 children). The purpose of Vacation Bible School is to reach children who do not have a church home. For children who already attend here, and are already asked Jesus into their heart, we want them to come and learn and grow in the Word of God.”

“Children, I think, pick up on what is real and what is not real,” says Dr. John D. Morgan. “We say here the children not gonna be the greatest in the kingdom. They already are, and so we try to treat them accordingly.”

Each day the children learn a story from the life of Jesus and all the stories are to teach them about an aspect of God’s love.

Madelyn Ehrlich says, “I’ve learned that it doesn’t matter who you are, where you’ve been, or what you’ve done, Jesus will always love you.”

“This year we had 50 children pray to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior for the first time,” Heather says. “I do not think that to this day we’ve come up with anything that is more effective to carry out the great commission to children like Vacation Bible School. So, it is a priority at Sagemont and I think will be for a long time to come.”

For 40 years of bringing children into the Kingdom of God through Vacation Bible School, we congratulate Sagemont Church in Houston, Texas, America’s Church of the Week.
