KETCHICAN ALASKA—
IT’S THE FIRST STOP FOR NEARLY EVERY CRUISE SHIP HEADING TO NORTHERN ALASKA.
IT’S THE SALMON CAPITOL OF THE WORLD
AND IT’S WHERE AMERICAN BALD EAGLES MAKE THEIR HOME.
IT’S ALSO HOME FOR EXCURSION CAPTIAN BOB HOLSTON. HE AND HIS WIFE PAMALA HAVE BUILT A SUCCESSFUL TOUR COMPANY WITH HARD WORK AND PRAYER. WHEN YOU BOOK A CRUISE WITH “LIGHTHOUSE, TOTEMS, AND EAGLES” THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT YOU’LL SEE.
Bite 1 Tour narration
The lefthand most tree, if you look at the top you will see an eagle’s nest. And after their second year of trying, they managed to raise two chicks in that tree.
VO 2
BUT CAPTAIN BOB’S STORY WILL MAKE YOU WONDER HOW HIS BUSINESS EVER MANAGED TO STAY AFLOAT.
(pause)
ROB AND PAMALA MARRIED LATER IN LIFE. TOGETHER THEY BOUGHT AN EXCURSION VESSEL AND SET OUT TO MAKE LIGHTHOUSE, TOTEMS AND EAGLES A SUCCESS. BUT CUSTOMERS WERE SCARCE.
Bite 2 (great bite) R 02:08:00 This business like many businesses is a numbers game (edit) The difference between high numbers and low numbers is about 6 inches. It’s between people’s ears. Where they make the decision to either buy our product or not buy our product.
VO 4
AT THE END OF YEAR TWO THEY SECURED A CONTRACT WITH A CRUISE LINE THAT PROMISED TO BRING IN MORE CUSTOMERS. SO ROB BOUGHT A SECOND BOAT, HOPING HIS BUSINESS WOULD DOUBLE. IT DIDN’T. THE HOLSTON’S REFINANCED THEIR HOUSE THREE TIMES TO USE THEIR EQUITY TO STAY IN BUSINESS BUT IT DIDN’T LOOK GOOD
.
Bite 3 P 02:09:55 There were more bills that the money coming in. P 02:09:14 In the natural it looked very very grim. We have to live the whole winter with what we make in the summer.
VO 5
THE BUSINESS WASN’T THE ONLY THING THAT WAS STRUGGLING, THEIR MARRIAGE WAS AS WELL.
Bite 4 P I came to my husband walking on the beach and said(edit). “This business is stressing me” At that point he said “we can give it up”. That was the breakthrough because what I had been seeing was that the business was so important. More important than anything else.
Bite 5 R (good) 02:26:55 When Pam and I decided that business WASN’T the most important thing in the world we “gave it away”. We said “OK Lord it’s yours. We are going to do what we can. If it makes it, great. To you goes the glory. And if it doesn’t we’ll do something else.”
VO 6
ABOUT THE SAME TIME, THE HOLSTONS FOUND THE 700 CLUB. THEY HEARD MESSAGES ON GIVINGTHAT MADE SENSE.
Bite 6 R 02:16:19 We were watching the 7C and learning about the responsibility to give and the rewards of giving. Not just what’s left over but your first fruits. And that your rewards financially will be unmeasurable and your arms will overflow.
VO 7
SO THE HOLSTON’S JOINED THE 700 CLUB. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THEIR BUSINESS INCREASED.
VO 8
BUT ROB FELT THEY SHOULD DO MORE.
Bite 8 (great bite) R 02:17:25 “how much do we want to step out in faith. We can’t just give what we can afford. That shows no faith at all. It’s how much can we step out. How much can we give that’s beyond what we can afford.
VO 9 GOD BLESSED THEIR BUSINESS IN AN AMAZING WAY!
02:20:05 Suddenly that year we were amazed at the numbers of the increase. Not more than we could handle. (edit) The numbers were far more than we anticipated. And in the course of one season our business more than doubled (tight) we were very pleased with that.
VO 10
“LIGHTHOUSE, TOTEMS, AND EAGLES” IS NOW ONE OF THE TOP EXCURSION tours IN KETCHICAN. THE ROAD TO SUCCESS WASN’T AN EASY ONE BUT IT WAS ONE FULL OF VALUABLE LESSONS.
Bite 10 R 02:26: If your business is doomed to failure then you need to analyze why, but it WON’T be because you gave too much to God. (great bite)
Bite 11 P 02:25:22 The word says “all things are possible through Christ. And nothing is impossible with him.”
