Tara Lawson: The Real Life Paranormal

CBN.com After watching a horror movie at the age of 12, Tara and her brother talked their mom into buying a Ouija board.

“We just got a Parker Brothers ® Ouija board at a toy store,” Tara tells The 700 Club. “We didn’t realize that it was more than just a toy.”

What started out as innocent fascination turned Tara’s life into a nightmare filled with paranormal activity and oppression. An evil presence made itself known almost immediately.

“It was moving our hands across the board, and it was moving really fast,” she says. “We were looking up at my dad, just kind of laughing like, ‘Look and we’re not doing it.’”

Her father recalls, “It was spelling out this profanity, and they were looking up at me and laughing. That sent some cold chills up your spine. So I said, ‘Give me that thing. We’re not playing this anymore. I’m getting rid of it.’”

Tara’s dad hid the board. It wasn’t long before Tara found it and secretly began playing again.

“To me it was like a game; it was just fun for me. I didn’t realize the extent of the damage it could do, what I was opening myself up to. I didn’t realize that it was something demonic, something evil.”

But the more she played, the more frightened she became.

“I had it underneath my dresser. I would get so scarred. I couldn’t sleep knowing it was under there,” Tara says.

“She came back and said, ‘You know, I found that Ouija board. I’ve been playing it again, and I can’t sleep. It’s bothering me. It’s under my bed. Can you please get rid of it? The first incident I should have been forewarned that this is not something we need,” says her dad.

Tara and her father burned the Ouija board. But a few years later, Tara was once again drawn back. This time she made her own board with a friend.

“That one was even more powerful than before. It moved even stronger.  We’d feel a breeze on our fingers and be like ‘What’s that?’ It would say, ‘I’m kissing your fingertips.’ It would say all kinds of wild stuff, and then it would just start saying all this inappropriate things. Being teenage girls, we would kind of laugh and feel kinda uncomfortable but we’d keep playing.”

She continues, “I could tell it was spelling something, but it was going so fast I couldn’t tell what it saying but I saw my name. It was saying, ‘I’m gonna kill you, Tara. I’m gonna kill you, Tara’ over and over. We ended up saying , ‘Our Father who art in Heaven.’ That’s all we really needed to say and it went to ‘goodbye’ immediately.”

She stopped playing with the Ouija board, but Tara’s life was dominated by loneliness and fear.

“I felt so alone. I felt like I didn’t have anybody. It’s almost like I was under this dark could of oppression. I opened that door to evil into my life. It brought in destruction. It brought in a dark oppression in my life. It seemed like everything from that point forward was spiraling downward.”

Strange things occurred around her, objects moved through her room at night, loud noises would echo through the house when no one else was home.

“I heard stomping up and down the hall, and I thought my dad’s home and he is not too happy. I ended up looking out into the hall and there was nobody there.”

Tara eventually got married and moved out of the house, but the darkness went with her.

“I would hear this loud evil chanting. I didn’t understand the language. It didn’t really sound like a human voice. It didn’t sound like a human voice could talk in that tone and be that loud. It felt like it was right there. You could definitely tell that it wasn’t outside. It was inside the house.”

Then late one night…

“He was still up. I was asleep, and he looked down the hall and could see this dark figure,” she says.

Her then husband says, “I tilted my head and looked down the hallway. Almost like a silhouette, I couldn’t really tell what it was, but I seen a figure. I turned to wake her up ‘cause I thought it was somebody in the house. When I turned back again, it was gone.”

Tara’s marriage eventually fell apart. One night as she slept she had a vivid dream that she was violently murdered.

“I closed my eyes, I said, ‘God, please get me out of here. Please save me.’  I opened my eyes back up. There was total peace, total calmness as far as I could see. Then I woke up. I opened up my eyes, and it just hit me that one day I’m going to die. I don’t know if I’m going to Heaven or Hell. So I just started praying to God. I called out to Him. I said, ‘Please, please show me what to do to be saved.’ I don’t even know what to do, but I know I don’t want to go to Hell.”

The answer to her prayer came early the next day.

“The next morning I hear a knock on the door,” Tara says, “and there was a man standing there with a Bible. He said, ‘I just wanted to read some of the Bible with you and pray with you.’ I was like yeah, and he read John 3:16 with me. ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever shall believe in Him shall have everlasting life.’”

Tara prayed to become a Christian. Her life was instantly transformed. She says, “For the next week or two after that, I was changing night and day. I think about that Scripture about how we’re a new creation in Christ. The old, it’s gone, and the new has come. That’s what I was. I was a new creation. Everything was alive. Everything woke up in me, and I was very aware of everything I was doing, every decision I was making. It was just amazing how quickly that transformation took place when His presence came into my life. It was darkness into light.

“It’s amazing how He can take and turn your life around and just change everything and get you down that path He meant for you. I didn’t know you could experience kind of love in your life to feel that someone cared so much about you.  I didn’t have that darkness, that cloud, over me anymore. He came to me himself and pulled me up out of that darkness.”

Tara is now a prayer counselor with The 700 Club. Her days of darkness are a distant memory, yet now serve as a warning to others.

“When those things are there in your life and you’ve invited that in, then there’s destruction in your life and everything that’s taken place is meant to kill, steal and destroy you and ultimately keep you away from the life that God’s planned for you. The Ouija board was just an open door for all that took place and the only thing that stopped it was me turning my life over to Jesus.”
