Our Strong Tower
CBN.com -- On September 11, 2001 billions of television viewers saw hijacked commercial jetliners crashing into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon near Washington, D.C.
Tragically, approximately 2,800 people lost their life as a result of the plot masterminded by Osama bin Laden and his al Qaeda organization.
Many political leaders of the other nations rushed to offer sympathy and assistance to America. But shockingly, within hours cameras showed Palestinians cheering the terrorists' success.
In China, Internet discussions applauded the blow against "American arrogance." Some people in other countries felt sympathy for the terrorists rather than the victims.
Americans felt shock at the hatred demonstrated by the terrorists' acts and by the antipathy toward the United States expressed afterward.
We forget that although God is sovereign and ultimately in control, "The world around us is under the control of the evil one" (1 John 5:19).
Satan delights in spreading evil such as the hatred that led to men giving up their own life to murder thousands of people who were just going about their job.
Believers sometimes forget how much hatred Satan feels for us. He can't have our soul, so he works furiously to destroy our life, working much like a terrorist.
Just as some of the 9/11 hijackers were trained in our country's flight schools, Satan often uses our own abilities and gifts to tempt us to stray from God. Terrorists work to infiltrate the society they are targeting; Satan tries to infiltrate our church, our home, and our mind.
Satan desires downfall, but our security in Christ is a strong tower of refuge -- a tower that can never be destroyed.
