Will God Remember Me?

Easter looks a little different this year. My husband and I talked about what we’re going to do to make it special since we’re not able to see our friends and family or go to church. Easter’s crept up on us, it seems, while we’ve been focused on what’s going on in the world: people find themselves working from home or not working at all, losing their jobs, or trying to teach their kids on top of everything else going on. Big plans have changed. For me, my husband and I were gearing up for a transition to a new home across the country, and all of those “for sure’s” are now “maybe if’s”.

Trying to find a light at the end of the tunnel can be a difficult task. When will it be over? And with so many people in need, will God forget me? Will God provide for me? When everyone is crying out for help with situations much worse than mine, will God continue to hear my prayers?

In the midst of a holiday, it can be even harder, but what a great time Easter is to once again center our focus on a God who came to earth for us. He will not forget us, even when it seems like the world is falling apart around us. The prophet Isaiah writes,

“Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.” (Isaiah 49:15-16 NLT).

God is bigger than we think, and He is far more capable of taking care of everyone’s needs, my own included. That much power is too much for us to conceive of, but that kind of power is perfect for problems that are wildly beyond our control. He can’t forget us. He’s promised not to, even as millions cry for His attention, His power, and His mercy. How incredible our God is!

And He is a good God who gives us good gifts and who moves on our behalf. There is hope for us still, even when things look grim. In Luke 11, Jesus says,

“And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not!” (Luke 11:9-12 NLT)

Keep praying and asking for God to fulfill your needs, because he hears you.

This Easter, no matter what your celebration looks like, I hope you focus on the good things God has done, and remember that He is in control. Death has not overcome Him, and neither will it overcome us. So while everything is different right now, and there are constant reminders of the state our world is in, my prayer is that you will be reminded that God sees you, He knows you, and He is going to take care of you. And in the meanwhile, while most of us are stuck in our homes, we can still celebrate all that He’s accomplished in the world and in us!

Happy Easter!

Father God, thank you for being a good God who knows and remembers us. Thank you for your sovereignty in the midst of our trials, and for your continual provision. You don’t forget us, and You never will. For those going into the Easter holiday with anxiety, stress, or worry over their situation, I pray that you will give them the grace to get through each day with a renewed sense of confidence in Your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
