Wisdom of God
During my early spiritual journey, I developed a deep desire to study the Bible and understand God’s teachings beyond my regular reading. I would enjoy hours studying His Word, ancient biblical times and languages, and modern-day applications of Scripture.
In my quiet time, I felt God leading me to attend seminary. However, I did not know where I should study, nor did I know when I should begin. I researched different colleges and attended information sessions at several prestigious divinity schools. Although the information was compelling for each one, I was unsure of which was the best choice for me.
I began to ask God where I should go as I reviewed the schools’ brochures and recalled each of their pitches for me to become a student in their program. I remembered the words of James about God providing wisdom and used that Scripture in my prayers. James 1:5 states: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him (NKJV).
As I prayed over the decision of which school to attend and when to begin the program, I also remembered that I should ask God in faith, believing that God would give me an answer. James 1:6 was encouraging: But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
The more I put my trust in God, the more He gave me the wisdom I needed. Without a doubt, I believed that God would reveal His direction for my school studies.
Soon, God made it clear that I should attend Regent University’s School of Divinity—through confirmations in my heart, prophetic words through other people, and signs while I was praying (such as television ads, internet ads, and direct mail just at the right moments). All roads led me to Regent, and as I spoke with students who were enrolled in the program, their experiences of encountering God as they studied described what I envisioned for myself.
Once I began my studies at Regent University, it became apparent that this was the place I needed to be. My encounters with God, lessons learned, and relationships formed were invaluable. I grew as a believer in Christ, as a student, and as a person through the countless long nights of studying and prayer with faculty, staff, and fellow students. Upon graduation, I stood in awe of God giving me the wisdom I needed to attend the school that He chose for me.
Maybe you need wisdom today for circumstances in your own life. Perhaps wisdom on the job or in your home is what you need from God. Maybe God’s wisdom concerning your health care or parenting is your greatest need. No matter what the situation is, God can provide you with His great wisdom. Just as James declared in James 1, God will give us all wisdom if we ask and believe.
Let us pray:
Dear Lord, I ask for Your wisdom today. There are times that I do not know the best way to handle situations, but I trust You to lead, guide, and direct me with Your wisdom. I believe I will receive all that I need from You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
