Hurricane Ida No Match For Operation Blessing Donors

As Hurricane Ida hit Louisiana, its powerful winds ripped through local communities leaving homes in ruins. For many families, the damage was staggering.

“I've been here 30 years,” said Dorothy, “and I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

Dorothy is one of many vulnerable people in the area who desperately needed help.

“I’m by myself, I’m a widow,” Dorothy said, “and I didn’t have any kind of man-help other than my little grandson, and he’s doing all he can.”

But thanks to Operation Blessing donors, the U.S. Disaster Relief team was already deploying to the gulf coast as Ida made landfall. As soon as it was safe, teams of volunteers began cleaning out homes, tarping roofs, and clearing debris.

“They provided all this manpower today to help us,” said Dorothy, “I'm just a widow and I can't do a whole lot; it's so appreciated.”

Thanks to Operation Blessing donors, we also provided hot meals, warm showers, food, and water when stores were closed, and resources were scarce.

"They gave us ice, they gave us water, they gave us cleaning supplies,” Dorothy said, “we were able to wash out ice boxes so they don't rot. They gave us food; it was such a blessing. They’ve been a Godsend; you can tell they’re real Christians. They have been a tremendous help to us."
 
Families along the Gulf Coast are grateful to Operation Blessing donors and volunteers who made it all possible.

"We can't thank them enough,” Dorothy said, “there's not enough words. In all of this mess there are blessings in the people that are helping, and we appreciate it so much."
