Little Boy Begged to Go to School!
Victor is a creative young man with big dreams. Victor said, “When I grow up, I want to be an auto-pilot engineer and have a good job.”
Victor’s mom said, “Victor often plays around the compound and makes toys, climbs trees, and molds things from mud.”
Being a single parent, Victor’s mom did her best to take care of her children, but every day was a struggle.
“The little money I earned doing farm work made it hard to provide food for my family,” said his mother. “I couldn’t even afford to take my children to school.”
Victor explained, “I’ve often gone to bed with no food. At times I was afraid I would die. I woke up feeling weak, with my stomach hurting from hunger. I remember, one day, I saw my friends going to school. I went to my mother and asked her why I couldn’t go to school like they did.”
“Victor begged me to take him to school,” his mother said. “It really troubled me. It’s illegal for children not to attend school, but I simply could not pay the fees for my children. Local authorities said if I did not find a way, I would go to jail. I was hopeless.”
Then she heard about Taveta Children’s Assistance, a ministry supported by Orphan’s Promise. She reached out to us for help, and we sponsored Victor and his siblings to go to school.
“I felt overjoyed to go to school with my brothers and sisters,” exclaimed Victor. “I’ve learned to read and write, and I love to play during break times. I am proud to be in school and am smarter than I was before. I am sure I am going to make it.”
Every Sunday, their family attends church at the T.C.A. center.
Victor said, “I love Sundays, because we get to watch SuperBook and learn about the Word of God. I’ve accepted Jesus into my heart and I love Him, because He protects us and takes care of us.”
After the services, we provide meals to Victor and two hundred other children. Victor’s mother now works at the feeding program, and with that extra income, she can feed her family.
“It’s so fulfilling serving the children and helping them,” said Victor’s mom. “Before coming here, I didn’t know God, and I faced problems on my own. I now have the joy of the Lord in my heart, and I know that God is good. ‘Thank you’ to everyone who supports us. I know my children will succeed in life and achieve their dreams because of you. I pray God will bless you and lift you up for remembering our family.”
Victor said, “Thank you for every good thing you have done for us. We are so grateful!”
