Did You Know?
Several key events in the life of Jesus took place on the Mount of Olives including it being the location of His ascension to Heaven.
Then, accompanied by the disciples, Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. There he told them, "Pray that you will not give in to temptation.” He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed, "Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” Then an angel from heaven appeared and strengthened him. - Luke 22:39-43 (NLT)
Many travel each year from near and far to the Mount of Olives for many reasons. Some come to be overwhelmed with the spirit of God, as this was the place where Jesus told his disciples he was going to be crucified. Others come for the breathtaking views of Mt. Zion, the Old City, and the Garden of Gethsemane.
The Garden of Gethsemane lies at the foot of the Mount of Olives. This is where Jesus spent the night before His arrest; it was the mount where He wept over Jerusalem.
But as he came closer to Jerusalem and saw the city ahead, he began to weep. How I wish today that you of all people would understand the way to peace… - Luke 19:41-42 (NLT)
Whether you’re traveling to Israel to be moved spiritually, for the rich history, or for the unrivaled views, the Mount of Olives should sit on the top of your list.
