From the producers of Despicable Me comes an entertaining, family-friendly film just in time for the holiday season. Universal Pictures' Sing sounds great, has valuable lessons to teach, and is downright cute.
The PG-rated movie features an all-star vocal cast (including Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson, Taron Egerton, and Tori Kelly) and some great musical numbers sung by the actors themselves.
Sing tells the story of Buster Moon (McConaughey), a strapped-for-cash Koala who's doing everything he can to keep his dream alive and his theater doors open. What he needs is a sold-out show. Otherwise, the bank is going to repossess the building. His bright idea to put on a singing competition. Hundreds flock to the theater to audition. Just as Moon and his star performers get ready for their big show, everything beings to fall apart.
As they're picking up the pieces, Buster and the rest of Sing's cast of characters teach us important lessons. They encourage us to take a leap of faith, never give up, realize our dreams, and encourage our family and friends in theirs. In some ways, Sing is Proverbs 13:12, animated. ("Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.")
Rated PG for some rude humor and mild peril, Sing is suitable for most children. It's actually a great option for families this Christmas.
If you like music and a clean movie with a good message for all ages, then Sing is for you and yours.
