Hillary as Vice President?

06-03-2008

This coming in from Ben Smith at The Politico this afternoon. Read below:

In a call with the New York congressional delegation that just ended, Hillary Clinton heard calls that she become Barack Obama's running mate -- and notably didn't tamp those voices down, two people familiar with the call's contents said.

At least four members of congress on the call -- Nydia Velazquez, Jose Serrano, Gregory Meeks, and Carolyn McCarthy -- raised the prospect of Clinton running for Vice President

And while, when asked before, she's silenced such speculation as premature, she seemed to "nod toward" the vice presidency more clearly than she has before, one person on the call said.

"She didn't say 'I'm not interested in that' or 'I don't want to discuss that,'" the person said.

Instead she said, roughly, "I'll do whatever I can to help us win."

More here.

Obama finds himself between a “Barack and a hard place”. (thank you for the compliment on being so funny)

If he chooses Hillary, he can pretty much write his ticket to The White House but then what happens if the next four years become “Bill and Hillary’s great adventure”? Plus, Obama’s appeal as a “new kind of bi-partisan non polarizing candidate” takes a hit because he’s choosing someone who has been a polarizing political figure in the past. That could come back to hurt him in the general election. He would be accused of ‘double-speak’ and his authenticity takes a hit. If Obama doesn’t choose her, he risks alienating women over 50 and could have a harder time bringing in that coveted working class voter. Plus, she really has ‘earned” the chance to run with Obama as VP. Doesn’t he at least have to offer it to her? What do you think?
