No Money to Buy Food
Central Java, Indonesia
Life was already hard for 40-year-old Sutrisni (pronounced Sue-TRISS-knee), who is a single mom. Her husband abandoned her a few years ago forcing her to raise their two children alone.
“I am heartbroken every time I think about how scared and sad I was the day he left us,” she said through her tears.
Sutrisni did everything she could to provide for her children. She sold food and even worked as a day laborer at a construction site. On a good day she earned three dollars. Then COVID-19 stopped everything in Indonesia where she lives.
“Now I can only doing a little laundry, but that’s only when someone calls me. Only a few people are calling,” she said. “I remember one day my children and I had only had a few bites of instant noodles for the whole day. It’s so hard not having any money to buy food.”
Operation Blessing has been buying food, assembling it into food packs, and delivering the packages of rice, eggs, and other groceries to help families across Indonesia during the COVID crisis. Sutrisini and her kids were one of the families that we helped.
“When I saw you I could not stop thanking God,” she said, her voice cracking with emotion. “I can’t believe that God answered my prayers today through you because we really had nothing to eat! Thank you so much for this food pack you brought to us. I really thank you!”
