Danger! Wild Elephants Ahead!

Ken Hulme - 700 Club International Managing Director

CBN.com -- Every day, six-year-old Nairiamu and her brother walk 14 miles round trip just to get water for their family. It takes so long, they can’t go to school. Their mother wants them to get an education, but they can’t live without water.

"Education can give our children a brighter future, but there are no schools near us,” Nairamu says. “The closest one is a two hour walk from here."

So instead of going to school, they carry five liter buckets of water on pieces of cloth wrapped over their heads. As they walk, they’re scared, because the path is shared with elephants and other wild animals.

Nairiamu waits to get water until later in the morning, when the elephants have left the watering hole. But it is right by the park, and there is always fear that they could trample her.

When Operation Blessing learned about Nairiamu and her family, we drilled a well for the entire village. Now many families have easy access to water they don’t have to share with the wildlife.

“My parents dreamed of having a well in our village, and now their dreams have finally come true," Nairiamu says.

We also wanted children here to have the chance to get a good education. So we built a school that’s just a few minutes walk for dozens of Masai families.

Every morning Nairiamu gets up early and is the first one to school. She is excelling in her classes. I can see her mind opening up to new possibilities, and I want her to reach the highest level of education she can. Thank you Operation Blessing. This is the life we were hoping for!
